They couldn't censor the lesbian factor very much because as a six year old, I still knew Neptune and Uranus was together as a couple. When they introduced them as cousins, I immediately felt it was a lie, and it didn't bother me or warp my way of thinking. As I got older and learned the origin of Sailor Moon, I took to looking at fan translated manga and the dubbed versions of the anime. I personally don't see why it was such a big deal, especially since America's supposed to be all about free speech.
