Barbarisms 14 Years, 11 Months ago

I hesitate about commenting on this, knowing I will seem hopelessly old and crotchety, but it seems as if Kagome and her friends have been wondering around feudal Japan a lot lately. They have learned to be weary of Naraku's tricks. Spell check will not tell us that Kagome et all have actually been wandering, and they have learned to be wary. Also, the earth under Kagome's feet is usually the ground, not the floor, unless it is the forest floor, and when she is inside a building, she is generally standing on the floor, not the ground. Now, excuse me while I go clean my dentures!

lol yea people make some interesting spelling/word mix up booboos, I think all of us do it from time to time whether it be sleeping typing at night or just a mistake.
I'll add definitely / defiant to the list of common barbarisms

though it doesn't come from stories, it comes from dealing with people that write them in the realm of disclaimers... it's know/own ... don't ask, you don't want to know ...

Oh yea the 'futile era' xP that's one of the best.
I'll add There/their/they're and where/were/we're in there too... those always get mixed up in the most horrible ways >.<

The first time I saw it written "futile era," I thought it was an attempt at wit, or at least sarcasm.
Don't forget (and I'm sure I've mixed these up when my brain is working faster than my fingers can type) your/you're, then/than, vile/vial, and especially to/too/two.

My favorite lately has been "bare" used instead of "bear". And the ever-popular their/there/they're confusion.

I'm really, really bad about getting were/we're mixed up. I've started seeing to/too/two mix ups more and more often.

I don't know if this one counts, but I can't stand it whenever I see something like, "she drug herself to her bed." The past tense of 'drag' is 'dragged.'

I have done most of what has been mentioned on here ^^;
Uhm, one that I see a lot is mixing up affective with effective.

I have trouble with bear and bare, and reign and rein, and many others. I really have to make sure to double check, especially when I'm tired, or inspired and writing quickly... I choose to ignore certain rules of grammar, to give stories a feeling of action and vigor, but do try to avoid barbarisms, because they are SO distracting. They can be amusing as well, though!

There's also the mixing up of live/life. But it's not a big thing, really, as it can be quite easily overlooked. (I know it slipped by my English teacher unnoticed. XD)

For some odd...very odd reason, I mix up 'at' and 'out.' Why? I have no clue, but now I read through my chaps to limit those irksome errors. My biggest peev is someone having spelling errors and here I am doing the same I am ashamed.
