I have been making my boyfriend watch all of Inuyasha with me, and noticed something strange. You know how they mention often that there are no youkai in the current era? Well, what about the Soul Piper? The Soul Piper was definately a youkai, and Kags and Inuyasha saw it in our time, but apparently she did not sense it at all and it is never mentioned and our counted when anyone in the show or in fanfiction considers the theory about the future of youkai. Do you guys think this is just an oversight?

Your right, I also forget about the piper. I wonder if she couldn't sense it because youkai have learned to hide in the current era. Interesting thought.

Questions:

Did Myoga specifically say the Soul Piper is a DEMON? I can't remember.
Who besides Kagome actually SAW the Soul Piper in the modern era? I can't remember. But apparently she can see DEAD PEOPLE under some circumstances, could the Soul Piper be some kind of divine being, not a demon?

I thought the soul piper was some sort of soul reaper, meaning it wasn't a demon but something that escorts the souls of the dead to the other world or something of that sort. I'm thinking that actual demons(as in demons such as:Sesshoumaru,Kouga, the one's that are in animal form) don't live in the modern era because of the smell and noises but they may just be in another world?(kind of like in YYH). But other beings such as ghosts and things like that can be in the modern era because they aren't technically demons.

Also, I honestly for some reason, think that maybe the demons that were only in animals forms in the past era transformed or became the animals we know today or in the modern era. I know it sounds weird, but that's just an idea I have in my mind. Haha I dunno, all this stuff is really confusing because there are so many options on what could have happened to the demons from Inuyasha and why they weren't well known in the modern era.

Yeah...that was confusing. Sorry if it didn't make any sense my mind is kind of everywhere right now haha.

I dont think Rumiko Takahashi had good story proof readers, there's a lot of crazy and over sight in her storyline for Inuyasha.

First i don't really think anywhere in the manga or anime, that is says specifically that there are NO demon's in the Modern Era, I dont even think it says anywhere that Kagome could never sense them, in fact. Personally i dont think she's ever tried.

Second, i do think the Piper was a Demon, abotu 6 minutes into this.

As for ghosts, Kagome doenst ever sense them except the once with Miyu. I think RT really just was lazy with it.

Other then that, one has to wonder about everything, like Kagome's the shikon miko and she can feel shards all over, then WHY could she never feel the one in the noh mask after she shattered the jewel in the first place. And what happened to that shard in the 500 years after it shattered, until it was collected again? b/c she doenst collect that shard in the past but in the future, so shattered in the past it had to wait 500 years before it was put together again.

either way. RT is horribly with story lines. and leaves a LOT of plot holes. but then again that makes canon fodder for us authors :3

I think the Soul Piper and the Noh Mask were both, at least, demon like and got over looked, but I believe the idea that no demons are in modern day or sensed by Kagome is actually a fanon theory. I don't remember it from the show itself. And if you look at another one of her series, Ranma 1/2, she does like to add demons in modern day, just gotta remember that most of Inuyasha takes place in the past. Who knows, maybe it's like Bleach and souls, only certain people can see demons in modern day and she just wasn't there enough to see many.

Hehe Sugar-chan, I actually used the plot hole of the Noh Mask shard in one of my stories, I think she definitely needed a better beta hehe.

Also keep in mind the ‘mask of flesh’ from scroll five in the manga. It would obviously have to be a youkai mask, otherwise the shikon shard wouldn’t have activated from some normal wood. Not to mention as far as the anime goes, Sounga and Siya. So there’s obviously youkai; Kagome’s just not trained well enough to sense them.
