I know I read this fanfic a long time ago, so it is definitely an older one. I remember that it was very well-written. The only detail I remember distinctly is that Sesshomaru loved Kagome, he wanted to keep her with him, but he did not offer to make her his mate. Someone (I don't know who) called him on it, and it turned out that the reason was very thought out and decent. Sesshomru's reasoning was that, if he made Kagome his mate, they would have a lot of enemies, who would try to kill her. Also, he felt that being the Lady of the West would not make her happy in any way, that she enjoyed being free and living in nature, not surrounded by a corrupt and Byzantine court. This reasoning made a big impact on me when I read it, but I just can't remember what fic it was in. Can anyone help?

That sounds vaguely familiar... Was it chapter story or a one-shot? (If chapter--was it completed?)

I don't remember if it was completed, but it was definitely a chapter story. I think a longer one. It has to be at least a couple of years old. I've looked and looked on A.S.S., and haven't found it. Is there any chance this was part of one of DemonLordLover's stories? Where any of her stories deleted from A.S.S.? For some reason, I want to think it was by her or one of the other big, early writers...

I don't remember this being one of Demonlordlover's stories. Most of her stories are either on here or A Single Spark, with the exceptions being "Conversations With a Taiyoukai," "Trust," "Phantoms of My Heart," and "Finding You." Those four stories are hosted on the Demonlordlover2 Yahoo!Group.

The story line sounds very familiar, but I doubt it's one of Demonlordlover's. I'll do some digging this weekend and see if I can come up with anything!
