Even without a calendar, I'd know it was Valentine's Day because the past few days, Hershey's has been blowing the greater part of their advertising budget with television spots for Hershey's Kisses! As always, synchronicity is at work in my world. I was reading a book set in World War I, in the trenches in France. A soldier receives a care package from home- it contains foil-wrapped, Hershey's Kisses. "Self, that can't be right!" I thought to myself. Another example of a published author's lack of research, I thought, smugly. So, I checked it out on the internet. Facepalm! Hershey's Kisses were introduced way back in 1907, foil wrapper and all! Now, my only question is, why in the world are the actors in the television ads popping them in their mouths WITH THE WRAPPERS STILL ON? Do people do this? Is it like the marachino cherry routine, something to impress prospective mates with the agility of the tongue? Anyone else notice this, and wonder...

I noticed that too. But I'm pretty sure that the Hershey's holiday commercials have kids unwrapping them and popping them into their mouth.

Secondly you have no idea where that foil's been, seriously, even out of the packet. Ew. Unwrap before scoffing. I hope I can remember that the next time I eat a chocolate bar, which will probably be in about five minutes.

P.S: I know Valentines Days is so commercialised and over-blown in the media, but you really have no idea how much people actually appreciate the cheesiness. I guess it's the thought that counts when you surprise them with a card, choccies, flowers, and a couple soft-toys. They're all smiles and happiness. I guess I'll be doing it again next year too. XD.

I have to agree about the unhygienic part. And really, wouldn't that taste icky as well? As for the cheesiness, my roommate (current best friend) and I used to always get each other chocolate. And if I could convince a friend to go somewhere with me, we would go as a pair and have crazy fun eating the Valentine's themed cupcakes at the Dining Hall.

P.S. Now I'm craving kisses but I'm snowed in so can't get to them.

XD.My father used V-Day to buy a dozen red roses for mom, a pink rose for me and an unopened red rose for my brother. He did that for many years and it was always something to look forward too.

Now... aside from my hubby and I going to see a movie together, I'm looking forward to the after V-day candy sales.

My oldest insists on calling this 'Singles Reminder Day' or (as he greeted me this morning with) 'Happy day to remember old guy that was tortured to death Day'.
