I came across the following in a fanfiction, and realized it was something I have seen more and more frequently:

The west wing of the house was very different TO the east wing.

Now, to me, this seems just wrong. I would expect the sentence to be phrased thusly:

The west wing of the house was very different FROM the east wing.

The first time I come across something like this, I assume it is simply an error on the part of the writer. But when I see what I perceive to be an error repeatedly, I start to wonder if it is I that am in the wrong. So now it has occurred to me that maybe the sentence should be phrased:

The west wing of the house was very different THAN the east wing.

Are there any grammar nazis with time to sort this out for me? Help me learn, please?

Purdue's OWL (Online Writing Lab) can answer almost any question you might have regarding usage... when I put in "To From Than" the following page appeared:

http://owl.english.purdue.edu/purdueowlnews/520

Scroll down and you will find a discussion of the very question you have raised!

You are marvelous, and that website is pretty danged impressive, as well. I'm afraid you might have provided me with a new venue for my OCD. How am I to choose between reading all this ravishing fan fiction, or find out more about the English language? Why are there only 24 hours in a day?

LOL, sweetheart! I'm in the midst of starting a new business and I often ask myself the same question... why only 24 hours??? Patently unfair, I tell you!!

Glad you like the site. I have found it my "go-to" resource for many questions since I was linked to it but, as you said, it's far too easy to drown in the reading!

Hmm, I'm always looking for grammar and usage help. My aging brain can't seem to recall the rules taught in school back in the dark ages LOL.
