For anyone who posts on AFF, as a prelude to changing over to their new site code, there are some restrictions this week:

- NO NEW REGISTRATIONS

- NO EDITING PROFILES

This note from DemonGoddess explains some of what's happening on the site:

"I've recieved a few emails this morning, saying how some pages are doing the "wall'o'text" thing where they weren't before.

This is actually related to the older reports of the same issue, when the rich text editor was first added.

At that time, it did this with many old stories. However, the data in the tables still shows the line breaks and what not. However, as these were straight text edits, instead of a coded line break or paragraph, there was a different kind of marker for making those breaks. At the same time, the word exported html inserts ended up with double/triple/quadruple spacing after paragraphs.

While fixing something for the new code which did this same thing, we applied that fix in to the old code as well to fix the word html issues. What happened next is that any chapters which had partial html, but no containers; ended up wall'o'text as well. This does not affect all stories.

The other thing with this, is this would've been implemented with the rest of the software later in the year as it is.

Yes, I'm fixing as fast as I can, but this is done direct in the db, and there are many, many records I have to go through. It's a manual fix only, so this will not be fixed in a matter of days. "

And this note from ApolloImperium explains even more:

"Just as a side note, in preparation for the launch of the new code, registration to the Archive side will be down as well as the ability to edit your profile until Thursday when we launch the new code. Please make sure that you read this months news as it will contain VERY important information about old vs new profiles, getting set up on the new system, etc. We have it planned so that myself, DemonGoddess and Manta will all be around on Thursday with the launch to handle any bugs, but again, reading the new FAQ's that will be posted and the news first will be very helpful!

I'm so excited for you guys to finally see this! Manta has worked very hard on the new code and our beta testers have been awesome testing everything in advance!!! Is it Thursday yet? "

Please, for all of you that have accounts on AFF, go over and read the site news from this past month. Some of these changes have to do with new registrations (for the most part) but others to do with existing e-mails and user names. This is going to be VERY important to read and understand as the new changes are implemented. This is especially true when it comes to names used on the site and allowable characters in them. We don't want you to have a problem logging in when things are implemented.

Through Thursday (it's already in effect, actually) new user registration is down as well as editing your profile while the first wave of changes takes place Thursday when DG gets home from work. As always, when you do a big change on a site, expect some problems as things come online. They will get it up as fast as they can but there are always issues when it comes to a site as large as AFF and implementing new toys to play with or changing the ancient software we run. However, it's something, once in place, we're sure everyone is going to like! Just have some patience as our techs work on it.

Now, yes, there is a problem with story glitches AKA the Great WALLOTEXT. Even my stuff was affected (the older stuff is where the issue is, not the newer) so you might want to check yours and do a repair if you can as it's going to take DG quite some time to go in and work with it. This had to do with some of the changes and wasn't intentional but did happen due to the old upload system.

However, to make sure you all know, you can still post stories and read just fine. Only registration and profiles are the issue for this round of code changes. Everything else is working fine!
