I read on several fanfic sites MM.org(mediaminer.org) is one. But the sites gone, the godaddy thing is there now. Does anyone know what happened???

Wow. How strange is THAT? Up until yesterday, it was working fine for me.

I have no clue what's going on... but hopefully someone else might?

That is really weird- I just posted on there yesterday afternoon and there were no problems with the site and there weren't any notices about the site coming down or anything.

*blinks* Okay, then. I just wanted to say that I don't go to that site, but I know how annoying it can be when sites do that. There are a lot of times where GaiaOnline, in the past, would just no longer work without any warning. One of those times was because of 4chan though, so that was understandable. Hopefully, it'll be working fine for you again, and that the site is actually just having a bit of trouble.

I even tried to go through a back door and go to a specific chapter and nothign but a webpage cannot be found thing popped up. It's a good thing I go there very rarely or I would be devastated.

Hm, neither can I. No one(who is very active on the site) has seen any sort of warning, through email or on the main page?

Maybe they are cleaning out their system and had to take it down for awhile. Or it may just be because they were not able to pay for the space for the site?(If that makes any sense, I couldn't figure out how to word it ^^; )

I went to the site...it is saying that they had a major hard drive failure last night and are currently working to get it back up, 12hrs at the most.

I don't go there often but I still enjoy the times that I do. In fact, one of those times was... day before yesterday? I think.. I had just gotten to the main page with a mission to find a story and got distracted.

Okay, while it's official that mediaminer is back up, I think the site is still having problems. I received an email from a reader informing me that chapters I'd posted to 2 separate stories on that site last week were missing. I went to double check & sure enough there's no content for the chapters in question, yet the site still registers the chapters as being there. I tried to re-upload the documents to fix the problem, but the uploads wouldn't go through.

Is anyone else still having issues with the site? >_> I'd like to know if it's just a problem I'm having with my internet connectivity or something.

It's not just you Freya... the site is glitching in a major fashion. About every other story, unless it's a one-shot, has some unreadable content or other.

Hopefully, they'll be able to restore from a back-up if this was a catastrophic drive failure. If not... heaven only knows what's gonna happen! I can't even BEGIN to imagine how the Site Admins are dealing... *shudders* *crosses fingers*

I've checked too and I'm sure there are many fics that were updated. It's just that no one can read anything that may or may not be updated. Guess it's a wait and see game with mediaminer.

Rose, I wish I could say the same, and I wish I knew what the problem was so I could at least try to find a way around it.

I don't know if it will help, but I sent the admins a line to see if they had any idea what was going on.

Aww, tyvm, Rose! *huggles* It might help, it might not, the poor dears may already be up to their elbows in complaints & work, but it's the thought that counts .

Ok, from a web designer's standpoint there are a few things that could easily explain this.
1. Someone forgot to pay the bill on time (not like though).
2. They may be switching servers, hosts (such as godaddy to bravehost, etc).
3. It's possible there was a hacker.
4. They could have had a virus.
5. Server/database crash.
6. The host they use (godaddy, etc) may be switching things around. If they happens, occasionally it affects some of the sites using them. For example, if MM is using PHP database coding to create their User to server Server to user interfaces for submitting works, and the host changes the database system or such, it is possible it created "broken links" in the process, If something like that happened, then I truly feel sorry for the designers on the site. It can take HOURS to go through lines of code to fix breaks. And this is only a couple of pages worth of code. If their site is as massive as I believe it to be, it is no surprise it is taking them so long to get it back up.

Of course these are just theories and possibilities that can occur. The site does seem to be working, but then again....

Since they had a catastrophic crash the other day, I can tell you what the issue is... The crash did it. Unfortunately, on AFF we are still dealing with glitched stories and similar issues from the last few we had years ago. It's going to take time, patience and a great deal of work to get it back up if they didn't have a proper backup stored. Just be patient and let their techs deal with things and try to right it. Just let them know if there is a problem your encountering so they know there is an issue.
