What is a saga? 15 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 13
Hey everyone,

another week of my curiosity.

So, what is a Saga?

I never really knew the definition of it. And I was watching Disney channel and saw the "Wizards of Waverly Place, Saga"

I was stumped at what it meant.

Please and thanks!

A bunch of adventures of someone's life rolled into one novel, series, etc. That a simpler definition?

A saga is like a soap opera.

Okay I think I understand...

So A Saga is like a two-shot fanfiction??

Or like a one-shot with 5 chapters or something?

I am just making this up, but I think a saga would have like more than 100,000 words. A REALLY long epic fic. A short story, or a one-shot, or even two-shot, has a tight focus, like a .22 sniper rifle. A saga is like a 10-gauge, shotgun with a short barrel. It's big, and the scope is broad.

haha Epic reply Knifethrower ^_^

But what I'm saying is, a four episodes of "Wizards of Waverly Place" is not a saga?

I mean it's only 30 minutes each.

So then, Long Drabbles are like Sagas... Right?

Sagas are just long stories. Think about The Iliad and The Odyssey, The Epic of Gilgamesh, all of those other stories that span years, or even decades. Really, the word can be used interchangeably with "epic."

Don't let yourself get confused over The Wizards of Waverly Place. I am not familiar with the show, and do not know what you are referring to over their little tack-on of "saga" -- whether it is referring to a grouping of episodes in the series, or if it is the series as a whole. If it is the latter, it may be somewhat appropriate, in TV terms. Pop culture has a tendency to sometimes use words inappropriately for the sake of creating drama and building interest in the audience.
