I've clicked on a couple of the links in her post and noticed that ads are running on these ff.net "mirror" sites. Thus, the claim that someone is making money off your work aren't too far off. Check it out and file a complaint with Google if you find your work on these "mirror" sites!!

I don't know if anyone's checked it yet, but I think it would be wise for every writer to pay attention to Scribd. They have a fee over books, but I'm not 100% sure the people uploading the works are their owners. I'm pretty much sure there's fanfiction there as well.

Wiccan's right it is Dokuga's IP address. I just pinged it from the Window's CMD shell. Got an answer, so yups, the IP you put up belongs to Dokuga. It's not a fake site or a mirror.

Also, a site found by IP address wouldn't necessarily keep you logged in when a session ends, as in when you leave the webpage. If you, for example, closed a browser window without logging out, depending on the site setup, it might auto-log you out, or leave you logged in.

It depends on the site.

This is what happens when a banking site uses security protocols.

You leave the site without logging out by closing the window it will auto-log you out, or it might time the session, and auto-log you out after so many minutes too, forcing you to log-in again.

Saying that, if I do this on Deviant, it still registers me as logged in.

Weird.

But yeah that IP address is Dokuga's not a mirror-sites.

IP Location of Some Fake Sites in Blog -
What's more interesting is most of the sites in that blog all register from the same IP address - 146.0.78.79, somewhere in the Netherlands.

The site TalkFictions is from elsewhere since it has a different IP address - 104.31.71.36, which is in the US according to the online IP sourcing sites.

Malware Warning:
Also as a warning, don't access the links in the fake mirror-sites mentioned on that blog. You may end up installing malware from doubleclick.net and metroplex.net, they'll plug in annoying pop-ups into your system.

You'll need an anti-malware program other than Malware Bytes to find them.

Malware Bytes doesn't update unless you go Pro.

Look for a freeware anti-malware app like Spybot or something similar if you don't use a commercial anti-malware one.

You'll also need to reset your browser too.

You can google it depending on the one you use to get rid of the malware.

Login/Phishing Warning
Plus, whoops it looks like TalkFictions is the worst of the sites up there on the blog. It has a readily accessible link to a login page.

The others don't (thanfiction, hmofiction, and fictionavenue) but if you put /login.php after their names in the URL you'll come to a login page.

If when you log in to FFNet, check the URL Addy it should have https: in the address bar before the URL.

This means that the connection is secure when you login.

The Talk Fiction site and the others don't have this feature, so you know they're fake. Also they don't have the symbol that looks like a closed padlock to show a secure connection on the login page.

This appears on the FFNet login page in front of the URL.

Please don't log into the fake mirror-sites

You'll likely get your account phished/hacked since they'll know your email login and your password. The Image below shows you what I mean.

Thought they just wanted to share stories. I saw one of my stories from FFn posted in Scribd before but never paid any attention to it. Hmmm... Hopefully, the person just wanted to share it.

But now I see my profile has been mirrored by these fake sites, too. When I try to click something, an ad pops up and all it says is that my device got affected by a virus or something.

Quoting from this post I found on Tumblr:

So they link back to my original account, original publication, everything.

This doesn’t seem like a case of a human being consciously stealing intellectual property, but a type of phishing / advertising scam."

Actually in mho Scribd can be a dangerous place too even if it is secured.
Members can DOWNLOAD the stories from here in pdf format.
It's good for writers who post their original work but could be a plagirism smorgasbord.
Some files can be made pay to own/read!
(Which is the nifty part for original authors.)
Writers can even get noticed by publishers via Scribd so IDK too much about "just sharing".
They could be, but theres also the possibility someone's making money off of it.
Just my two cents.

Man... I just found all my stories on one of those mirror sites. That sucks (>.<)

My stories are there as well.
The only thing I can see that wasn't copied when I looked around were the profile pictures and story cover art.

Didn't know about that.

Years ago (back in my college days), we used Scribd for sharing and gathering information for our case presentations.

Anyways, I just checked into it again and found out it now requires payment! I checked my uploaded story and was able to breathe out a sigh of relief when I saw it was an open document that didn't require payment. So I am assuming the uploader just wanted to share it. And anyways, it wasn't only my story that I've seen. There were several others as well from the Inuyasha fandom (um, I write Bleach stories, if I haven't said so).

Thanks for letting me know, though. This 'story-stealing' is alarming. I've seen how disastrous it could be. Really frustrating to say the least.

So I googled myself and my stories.... apparently I'm on buystock.... peachy

I googled myself as well, not only are most of my more popular Inuyasha fandom stories (and Rurouni Kenshin stories) on TalkFiction, my exact word to word beta reader profile and real profile are on talkfiction. I think within the next month or so I'll be closing my ff.net account down for good.

Having seen this, it makes me glad I pulled mine awhile back. Now I just use FF to archive my favorite stories from that site.

That's something else I noticed, even my reviews of other's stories are on there. This is going to drive me loopy.
