Reality of Nightmares

A/N: So hi! This story is also posted on ff.net so the one here isn't as far into the story as the one there but anyway, I hope you like it. I plan on doing a big edit after the story is done on both sites so the first two chapters might seem a little akward, but they get better as the chapters go on. I'll be updating everyday until I get to the point where the stories are the same on each site so bare with me.

Memories of Chaos:

Chapter 1: Reality of Nightmares

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Inuyasha...Inuyasha!" Screamed Kagome. The image of her friend looked back at her with unrecognizing eyes. Slowly it turned around walked away, fading as he went.

Kagome tried to run after him but the images of Miroku and Sango were in the way.

"Miroku, Sango, you have to help me! Inuyasha doesn't know who I am. We have to go after him," Kagome said desperately. But as always, they looked back at her blankly and faded away, leaving the imaging of Shippo and Kirara in their wake.

Shippo looked up at her with sad eyes. "I'm sorry Kagome!" He cried, and ran away.

Kirara mewed softly at her and ran after him.

"Shippo, Kirara, come back!" Shouted Kagome. She heard laughter, cruel laughter, and then she heard the voice of her most hated enemy.

"Poor little Kagome, all alone in the world," it cackled. Purple miasma flooded the blackness, choking Kagome. A blue light flashed, then a streak of silver shot through her line of vision and Kagome screamed.

The sound of her screaming was what awoke Kagome. She hot up into a sitting position. Looking wildly about her, she took in the familiar setting of her bedroom. Groaning, she brought a hand to her forehead and wiped at the cold sweat that had accumulated there.

Running footsteps were heard down the hall. All of a sudden, Kagome's door banged open and revealed her brother Sota. "Sis what's wrong!? You were screaming so loudly I thought someone was murdering you in your sleep."

"I'm fine, it was just a nightmare Sota."

"Could've fooled me. Go back to sleep, it's still pretty early, you don't have to be to work for another four hours." He was looking at her as if she would collapse any minute. It was the same thing every morning. She was usually able to muffle her screaming before any one heard her, though sometimes she was heard. Her mother was aware of her nightmares, but she didn't know they haunted Kagome every night. If she did, she would be even more fussy over her daughter, and that was something Kagome didn't want.

"That's okay Sota. I'm going to take a shower and grab some breakfast," she answered, "just do me a favor, don't tell Mom about this."

He looked at her for a moment as he thought. She looked okay. He was probably just imagining the scared look in her eyes. "Okay," he said slowly, then he grinned, "but only if you give me a ride to school today."

"Done," she said quickly, any thing to keep that secret.

"We have to leave in forty-five minutes, so hurry up." With that he closed the door leaving Kagome to her thoughts. That same dream had been haunting her for months. None of her friends seemed to remember her, and Shippo looked so sad. She guessed her inability to reach them symbolized the sealed well. Why Naraku was there she had no idea, and the blurred blue and silver streaks were mysteries as well.

Slowly Kagome rose from her bed and trekked to her bathroom to take a shower.

Thirty minutes later, she was showered, clothed, and was eating breakfast with her brother. She had pushed the familiar dream to the back of mind, and was concentrating on the television.

"Today's gonna be another scorcher folks, but thunderstorms predicted later on in the evening, so don't leave the house without your umbrellas," the weatherman rattled on.

"Come on Kagome, we gotta get going!" Sota shouted to get her attention. Some times his sister seemed to be in another world.

"Right! Just let me get my keys." Kagome stood up and put her dishes in the sink. Grabbing her car keys and cell phone she kissed her mom goodbye.

They ran out the door and Kagome stopped as they passed the old Goshinboku tree. So many memories held the tree together. She had once hoped that she could communicate to her friends through it after the well sealed itself, but it was a fool's hope.

She only succeeded in making herself look nuts. Kagome only stopped trying after she was seen doing it by her friends and they threatened to send her to a doctor. She could just imagine how those sessions would go...

"So Kagome, your friends tell me you were talking to a tree. Care to tell me why?"

"Well you see doctor, I fell down a well and it transported me 500 year into the past, where I completed the important task of getting rid of the Shikon no Tama. When I came back home, the well sealed itself up, so I tried to talk to my friends through a tree."

"Of coarse, that happens all the time. Give me a minute while I ready the sedative I'm going to give you."

"Sis, let's go! You're going to make me late"

"Right, sorry Sota." She started walking towards the car again. As they were passing the well house, a chill went down her spine. But she kept walking; she didn't want her brother yelling at her again. Kagome hadn't walked five steps before she smacked into Sota. He had stopped right in front of the well house and was looking at it's doors.

"Did you feel that Kagome?" He asked, not taking his eyes off the building.

"Yeah, I did bu-

"Let's go chick it out!" With that, he ran into the house.

"Sota, wait!" Yelled Kagome. Heaving a heavy sigh, she followed him in. She found her brother down next to the well. Going down the stairs to stand next to him, she stared at the well. After she last came back from the Feudal Era, Gramps had once again put the cover on it. Nothing had changed since the last time she had been there.

"It was nothing Sota, come on, you're gonna be late-

A loud cracking sound was heard throughout the small building right before a blue light engulfed the two siblings. The familiar sensation of time travel enveloped Kagome and then once again she was in the well house with her brother.

"What-the heck-was that?" asked Sota in a panicky voice.

"I'm not sure, but let's get out of here before something else happens," answered Kagome. For a split second she had thought she might be able to see her friends again. They would reassure her that they would never forget her, that Shippo would never look that heartbroken, and that Naraky was dead. But once she arrived back in the well house, her hopes were dashed.

She turned around to go back up the stairs, and when she looked up she gasped.

The wood of the 500-year-old building looked brand new, and the cobwebs that once decorated the stairs were gone. Running up the stairs, she threw open the well house doors. A broken sob erupted from her as she took in her surroundings. Or she would have been if a familiar, sivler-haired, red clad, boy hadn't been in her way.

"Inuyasha," she said in a whisper.

And then, to Kagome's horror, her worst nightmare came true. She watched his flawless face scrunch up, as if in confusion, and ask:

"Who are you?"
