I have been sitting here trying to think of the title Sess and Kag's son would call Sess's mother in the story I'm working on. He is six years old.

Would Grandmother be too weird? Honestly, it's sorta stumped me O_o He calls Mrs. Higurashi Obaasan so I dunno. Sessmom seems beyond being called 'Grandmother' lol but in my story she is a tad bit more approachable.

Any ideas?

I don't see any problem with 'grandmother' (in English)... Unless Sessmom holds a specific title by which she is generally addressed by.

But really it also depends on the situation. Are they alone or out in public, is the situation casual or formal, is the fic canon or AU?

Answering such a question is tricky when given no context. ^^;

I'm a bit dubious about using "obaa-san/sama" though, if the story is set in the past. I think in the past they might have preferred different forms of adress, e.g. Sesshoumaru doesn't use otou-san for his father but the more formal chichi-ue.

Really, the story is light hearted and my portrayal of sessmom would probably be considered OOC. While maintaining a regal and snooty air, she is not totally heartless and layered in ice, if you get my meaning. The little boy won't have much interaction with her so I suppose 'Grandmother' works.

What about Nanna? Its implies grandmother but does not seem old? Hope this helps.

O.o lol, if your still looking, and ur fanfic is a canon, she should be called Oba-Sama!!

Well yea, Oba-sama does not make SessMama sound as old as Obaa-sama, but then again, Oba-sama would be closer to "aunt" where as Obaa-sama properly translates to "grandmother". So the meaning would be inaccurate for Oba-sama.

But I still think it's well justified to call her 'grandmother', after all in Japan people are often addressed according to their titles, and SessMama's "title" in the pup's point of view would be grandmother. And especially if they don't have that much interaction, "grandmother" could be used as it properly depicts their relationship to each other, but does not imply as much affection or closeness as the many variations of the word, like grandma.
