I wonder what Inu no Taishou looks like? I mean all we've really seen is his back with his long tied up silver hair and him in doggy form...

Inu is dog, of course... taishou can mean first prize/leader/general/boss/great victory.

It is commonly translated in this fandom as The Great Dog General. Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha's father has no name that we know of, just a title.

He kind of looks like Sesshoumaru except he doesn't have the moon on his forehead, their marks are different,and he's not as pale.

Toga was the name used by the animators of Movie 3 to identify Inu no Taishou. RT
who was a consultant on Movie 3 made only one request of the producers of that film.
She asked that they obscure Inupapa's face whenever it was shown. I assume she did this so that she would be able to draw his face the way she wanted to do and was not forced to use someone else's drawing of Doggy Daddy.

The terrible thing is, she never *did* draw his face! He never made a canon appearance (the movies aren't quite technically canon). We never even got the silhouettes in the manga, just a few glimpses of dog form...sigh.

Inunotaishou means Great Dog General. Nothing else. It cant be translated any other way when you look at the kanji (chinese characters in the Japanese language).
The kanji used for tai means great or large.
The kanji used for shou means general, leader, commander, admiral. Take your pick. General best fits the manga and anime though. Also the kanji used for shou is the same as the shou in shougun. (Japanese kanji doesnt show up in the forum )


If the titles/names are writen in Hiragana.. then pretty much it HAS NO MEANING. Because in hiragana it could mean anything... its endless. The same way as a foreign name has no meaning writen in the katakana system. The only way a name/title has true meaning is if it is written in kanji.

Yeah, I noticed in Movie 3 that half his face was hidden most of the time. Towards the end when he's appears fully facing us you can't see anything because it's all misty and glowing.

I'd like to find a pic of him at the end of the movie, although not good in color detail, as he is a floating wisp, it gives an excellent front profile of him.

I know they refer to him as the great dog general, but if Takahashi-sama ever named him I wonder if his name would sound similer to Sesshoumaru's?

If Inupapa was named... I would like to think it would be something like "Wise seer of the future" or something. I mean come on.. He set up all these test for his sons. He had to have know all this was going to happen and he wouldnt be there. He seems too young ( even in Youkai age) to have died. o_O

I would try to figure out a name for him using kanji but.. too many kanji hurts my brain.

You know, the bad part of me always thinks he had no idea what he was doing and how it was going to turn out. He was just wing'ing it. (Remember in the manga there was no So'unga) "Hrmm, only 1 sword to give away. Heck I'll just have Totosai split em for me, that'll do it."

Not even a remote clue as to what his name would be. RT didn't name him or Sesshomaru's mother. Seems like the only parent who got an official name was Izayoi. If I had to name him, I would probably give him a name that meant something close to "great dog demon bad***". Don't know how you'd translate bad*** in kanji though, but that's the word that springs to mind first whenever I think about him.

ok, just got to put this in. if Inu no Taishou is a title, not just a name; cause he would have to earn the title... then his name may have been Spot, Rover or Fetch, and because of the less honorable name, he became known by his title....

Correct me if I'm wrong but i dont think Inuyasha's mom was even named in the manga. I think they gave her that name in the 3rd movie.

I did a litle searching and actually the name isnt Touga in the 3rd movie! :o Its Togaou! To-ga-oo. He has a built in OO in his name awesome!
Not to different though. The 3 kanji that make his name translates out as: "War Fang Ruler"
