Abandon your Kagome bias for a moment and really discuss, canon wise, what type of woman would Sesshomaru prefer or would ultimately end up with?

Personally I think pride would kill him before he ever truly falls in love or he would be too prideful to submit to a romantic love.

I know people ship him with humans because of the irony in it, but it's odd I've never seen him shipped with a Hanyou OC when I find that thought most entertainingly ironic. Plus they wouldn't have the aging issue. Then you don't have to create some semi-elaborate side line story where said human girl is given immortality either through a curse, a vampire, or some other wacky idea in an attempt to do something that hasn't already been done before.

Another popular idea I see is shipping him with some noble, high lord, demon lady. Which I don't mind, but I just find the idea too boring and predictable.
I don't really fancy the "childhood friend" idea either, too much cheese for my taste.

Characteristic wise I think she has to be strong, snarky, smart, a bit reserved, but bold with none of that "Moe" thing going on. A bit of Kagome's characteristics but toned down, basically, less nag and more wit. And for it to work I think the story has to progress very slowly and there is no noticing of her "beauty" early or middle on, otherwise it touches the Mary Sue territory.

Sorry I'm so persnickety haha. This is why I find it hard to find any romance Sesshomaru stories that I like.
Not bummin' on anyone else's styles but that's just me. Obviously I don't speak for everyone.
(if you didn't see my introduction page, know that I don't ship Sessh with anyone, just came here because it's the only living Inuyasha fandom forum I could find. xD Note, I still do understand the appeal of Kag/Sessh.)

Don't know really, since canon Sesshy and fanon Sesshy are two different creatures. We could base a judgement on how Takahashi-sensei portrays Sesshy in canon and make an educated guess on what available femme would be best for him.

OR:

We could use fanon Sesshy and mould him to how we wanted while keeping canon facets of his known personality, and pair him with anyone, really, since we'd be bending canon to suit fanfiction for example.

Sesshy could be paired with anyone, just like Kagome.

It really depends on the person or the author or the reader or the artist and so on.

As to what kind of woman Sesshy would look for - I doubt that he'd know himself unless he started dating or mingling or socialising, which according to canon he rarely does. He traipses through the country-side too much to date or court anyone. Which is more funny than not.

Plus you also have to consider if canon or fanon-Sesshy would have the patience to deal with woman problems from incessant yammering to fashion critique to inane questions. He's a guy that looks after a little girl in Rin. The only other women in his life are his mother, and Kaede.

I don't see a great deal of experience dealing with the fairer gender there.

If anything I think Sesshy is too immature to be spouse-material. He'd be young by youkai standards, since we can't apply human aging norms, social or cultural norms to him either.

Give him another couple hundred years and he might mellow out.

Yeah, but just speaking in a canon sense with this one.

I pretty much agree with everything you say. I think the deepness and maturity of his English and Japanese voice actors sometimes hide the fact that he is still quite immature. You could change him into a kid like Kohaku with the same story and character, the behavior would still be fitting. (Since his major purpose is to whine over a sword.)

I'm the younger sister between my siblings. I used to be a tough kid to crack so my parents would give me more special attention than my older sister. Same goes for Inuyasha being a Hanyou and needing a bit more of a hand in the world. My older sister would subsequently pick on me because she was jealous and didn't understand yet that it wasn't because our parents were playing favorites, it was because I needed more help. Sesshomaru matured a bit when he abandoned any attachment to tessaiga, but he still has a lot more to go.

Plus he's too busy daydreaming about world domination. Also, since Kagome's time period isn't too far away in demon years, which is 500, I don't think he'll die ancient. So I highly speculate he'd die in battle.

I've researched this a long time ago but I can't source it at the moment, but the red flower symbol almost signifies this one clan that actually lost or wasn't really the big league-er's during Oda Nobunaga's conquest.

I would love to read a fanfic leading to Sesshomaru's demise that also accurately portrays the events leading to the end of the Warring states period. That would be very interesting. Or maybe he doesn't die and acclimates to the result of the Meiji Restoration. I think the war was already going on during the Inuyasha-verse time period, but of course the end of every war requires more bloodshed and revolt. I would write it myself but I may be too lazy xD

Gosh, so true!

That would be fab weaving Sesshy into like Japanese history!

I've seen it done in some fanfics, but you'd probably need to know a great deal about Japanese culture plus history plus topography and all that. Which I know next to nothing about. . Although I have seen this done in several fanfics quite well, an Inu x Kag one to be sure, that I haven't read for ages.

I think a few professional authors have done something similar with what like Merlin in british history past the Camelot days and stuff. Might be that Avalon Mist series I never read but heard of. I can't recall.

You might want to (re)read "Violation of Honor" by Rinseternalsoul. She managed to very skillfully weave Nobunaga and a story of warrior monks into it, complete with our fave bunch playing roles in history.
