There is a site called behind the voice actors, they mostly stick towards getting people to do fan work but I don't know if they have a place for audio books. Worst case you could get the permission of the author and post on there to see if anyone is interested in doing it, or on another site like it.

So, at work, I listen to audiobooks all night to keep me focused on billing and I've been thinking for a few weeks now that it would be awesome if I had some of my favorite fanfictions recorded as audiobooks. What do you guys think? Would anyone be interested in recording their work so people can listen to it on the go?

That...would be amazing! Unfortunately, I cannot read as smoothly as I'd like. It would be better than listening to the audio fanfiction app.

I love audio books, but I have trouble typing some of the words I use without blushing. There's no way I could read my fics aloud! (At least not most of them)

Hmmm does that mean you are willing to read some of your fanfictions out loud?

I'd love to read fics outloud to have to listen to later. I'm not sure what software to use or where to store them.

I suppose I could, so long as it's not one of the funny ones. I still can't read Mating Rituals of the High School Boy (Rated MA) without laughing my rear off. I recently told my daughter the basic plotline, since it has a little suggestive content so she couldn't read it, and I couldn't do it without practically dying. It's kind of sad I can't read something I wrote without laughing, no matter how many times I've read it.
Someone else would have to edit the sound files, cut it together right, take out bits if I screw something up. I don't know how to do that kind of thing. Also have no idea what software I'd use for that, the actual recording.
I don't know what of my fics would be worth the effort and aren't too adult. I really should be able to read what I write aloud, but there are some words I just can't make myself say. Wouldn't think there was any prude in me, but apparently there is.

Well, I've tried it on one of my shorter stories and I used Vocaroo to record, but it had a lot of static. And if you're uncomfortable reading it out loud yourself, would any of you be willing to let someone else read them aloud? As for storage...I have no idea, unless we made a file sharing website of some sort. But I would seriously love it if we could get a bunch of things recorded. I never seem to have time to read anymore, but if we had the audiobooks, we could read whenever....if we can control our laughter that is. XD

There's a free download called audacity that records your voice. I know I've used it from time to time Now to read my own work? Hmm, now that sounds like an intriguing idea!

Sure, I'd be fine with that. I'd just want to know what was being done, especially if I'm working on edits for that particular fic. Then I could send the person the newer versions of the chapters that I might not have posted to the sites yet. (There's a bunch, actually!) Typos would definitely cause you to stumble while reading aloud and if something of mine is going to be out there, I'd want it to be the best version possible.

I'm trying to remember the software I read about that was supposed to be good for this.... I'll let you know if it comes to me.
I'd be willing to read some stories to record, but I don't really have time to mess with a bunch of editing. I've thought about recording on YouTube, but would really like something where the listener could listen online or download the audio file.

Well, why don't we see if we can get a bunch of authors interested? Then we could find people willing to record them. It's the sharing/storage part that's getting me still. We need an easy, organized way for people to post the chapters they record, that way you can easily find them. Also, it might be good to get a list of which stories people would like to see recorded and then we could seek out the authors and yadda yadda yadda.
And I totally agree that communication between author and recorder is a must. Who else would know the tone and whatnot better than the author? ^_^
I'm really excited about this guys. Now we just have to see if we can do it!

There are a couple of sites that are for audio fanfiction. What about one of them? I haven't had a chance to look at then in detail.
You know we will want some, Beloved

Interesting, I actually know of a few chapters in existence that were recorded by a fan of RosieB's work.
KDHeart recorded a 'podfic' or audio track of the first two chapters of RosieB's 'Beside You In Time', although it hasn't been updated for a long time since. It's on AO3. Was it done with permission? I can't say, though KD makes a post about it on the podfic's page via the link below.
Here's the link if you want to listen: archiveofourown.org/works/1112344/chapters/2239686
She sounds really interesting reading it. Her accent is wonderfully refreshing.

P.S: I just wanted to post this link to show that a person has or is doing the audio track/reading thing for a fanfic.
I find it interesting.

It sounds fun to read aloud stories. I would if I could, but I don't have any special recording equipment. D;

Well, if anyone needs help getting started, I'm willing to lend a hand
'Beside You in Time' is done with permission, but I had to put it on hold because of technical issues, real life shit and reaching chapter 4 (which made me cry like a baby).

I'd be willing to lend voice acting if anyone is interested in actually going through with it. I've had a few courses and I've done a couple of radio dramas. It's kind of fun if you want to try it! The toughest part is establishing the voices for each role and maintaining them.

I would not mind reading a few of my stories and recording it. Or helping someone with doing voice. Though, I don't know if it would be entertaining hahaha.

What are your thoughts about recording these to YouTube? A cover art of the title or whatever image is shown and the story is told? Has anyone listened to one of them?(there are a good bit of audiobooks on there now) Would that be easier then trying to record and find storage for podcasts?
Also, stories are now being recorded and put onto free Roku channels Roku Audio books
Thought that was interesting.
Here is a blog article about how one author felt about reading her book to audio. Thought she brought up some good points.
Agony of recording
