2012 will be a leap year. This means that February 29th, also known as Leap Day, will appear on our calendars.

In honor of this unique day I am putting forward a challenge to my fellow Dokugans.

Leap Year Challenge

Due By: February 29th, 2012

Requirements:

1. This, of course, must be a story involving Kagome and Sesshomaru.


2. Story must have something to do with Leap Year and/or Leap Day.


3. Due to the nature of February and the traditions/superstitions surrounding Leap Day you must include romance in the story in some way. Kagome and Sesshomaru do not have to be romantically involved.


4. You may have drabbles, one shots, or chaptered stories to complete the challenge. However, you must have one of your figures be divisible by 4. If the figure is divisible by 100 it is ineligible unless it is also divisible by 400. This can be chapter/drabble count or word count. So one 100 word drabble is ineligible but 4 would be acceptable, a 1000 word one shot would be ineligible but a 2000 word one would be acceptable. (If you need help, just ask.)


5. Please list what you are following the above rule based on. If word count then list that, if chapters state that.


6. All ratings are acceptable. Please list the rating with your link.

Facts about Leap Year/Leap Day

• February 29th is known as Leap Day. Someone born on this day is called a "leapling".


• February 29th is the 60th day of the Gregorian calendar during a Leap Year.


• In some traditions Leap Day is also known as "Bachelor's Day". On this day women could propose marriage to a man. If the man refused he was expected to pay a penalty, like a gown or even money. This tradition has Irish roots.


• In some cultures it is considered unlucky to be born on a Leap Day. (Primarily Scotland.) It is also considered unlucky for couples to marry in a Leap Year. (Particularly in Greece.)

yeah, it's a bit early i know but this challenge inspired me and i saw no real reason to wait

So I really only do drabbles I would only be able to do four of them for the story, or can I have a series that I end on Feb. 29th??

I would like to remind anyone interested that there are only 60 days left to this challenge.

You could do either one. Just remember that it has to follow the rules of being divisible by 4 and not by 100. (Either by word count or number of drabbles/chapters.)

Keeping with the tradition of how leap years are decided, your work can be based on chapters or on word count (or both if you want to be creative!) - but whichever you chose must be divisible by 4 but not by 100 unless it is also divisible by 400.

For example:

A word count of 2500 words is unacceptable because it can be divided by both 4 and 100 evenly, but not by 400. Eleven chapters would not be allowed, because it cannot be evenly divided by 4. A word count of 3660 words would be acceptable because it is divisible by 4 but not by 100 (the 400 rule does not apply this case).

To put it plainly - any year which was a leap year, those numbers you can use as word counts or chapter counts.

This year the number 2012 is divisible by 4:

2012/4 = 503

But not by 100:

2012/100 = 20.12

There will be a leap year every 4 years until the year 2100 because this fails the 400 rule:

2100/4 = 525
2100/100 = 21
2100/400 = 5.25

After that there will not be another leap year until the year 2204.

I hope that explains it more clearly.

Okay, you can choose either word count or chapters to go by - the choice is up to you. Either the total chapters must be divisible by 4 (but not by 100 unless it is also divisible by 400) or the word count must be. I will accept a first chapter if you'd like, although this challenge has been up for some time. However, if you're going to do chapter stories you must decide which you are doing in advance - word count or chapter count - and stick with the original rule of division. (Otherwise it wouldn't be a challenge!)

Yay, thanks. It was kind of supposed to be confusing because it was just the prologue. I actually wrote out the plot and details on a separate document, so all will be explained throughout the rest of the story. Still, sorry that it was confusing.
