Ch. 1-The ocean.

Kagome ran. She wanted to stop, but felt as though she was being pulled away from what she had just seen.

{ "I-InuYasha..."

"Y-yeah, K...ungh...Kikyo?"

"Do you...ooooaaah...love me?"

"Of....*pant* course I do."

"S-say it InuY-Yasha."

"Ungh...I love.....oooohh....You, K-Kikyo."

"What about...un....Kagome? Tell...Aaahh....Me what....*moan*....you will do to her."

"I have...ung..no feelings for Kagome. I will....Ungh...Kill her after..Ungh..She gives me the Shikon."

"Goooood." Kikyo hissed.

And then Kagome ran.}

Soon, Kagome could run no more and collapsed beside a wide stream. Crying onto her forearms, Kagome could not get the image of InuYasha and Kikyo out of her head. 'I cannot live with this knowledge.' Kagome thought just before plunging into the river.

"Where's Kagome? We were going to go to the hot spring." Sango asked the group as she came into the clearing.

"I have no idea. She left the camp awhile ago to do something. She seemed to be going after InuYasha." Miroku said from his spot by the fire.

"Yeah! And she said I couldn't go." Shippo piped up from the top of Kagome's yellow bag.

"Shimatta. Perhaps she saw something and went home again." Sango said, sitting across from Miroku.

"That could be the problem." Miroku said with a thoughtful look on his face. "May the kami's help us if she saw him ru-"

"MIROKU!!"

"What?!"

"If you haven't noticed there are younger personnel here."

"Oh. Gomen nasai, Sango."

"Whatever. Where do you think she went?"

"I think she did what she did last time she saw InuYasha and the clay pot going at it!"

"SHIPPO!!!" Sango and Miroku both yelled.

"What? It's true."

"I suppose." Sango said. "Where did she go?"

"She ran." Shippo said, crossing his arms.

"Where?"

"How should I know?"

"Chikusho!" Miroku said. "Where would we start?"

"Probably in exactly the opposite direction of the incident." Sango said.

"Yeah!"

InuYasha watched as Kikyo got dressed again. He loved to watch her pull her clothes over her porcelin skin. It made him want to pull it off again.

"Anata, must you dress?" InuYasha asked.

"Of course, InuYasha." She said as she tied her hair back.

InuYasha sighed. "I suppose so. But does it have to stay on?" He asked.

"Hmmm...for the time being, yes."

"But later?"

"Perhaps." With that, she left the clearing.

InuYasha just couldn't get mad at her for leaving. He couldn't bring himself to hate her. Sighing, he stood and pulled on his fire rat fur haori and hakama. When he was dressed, he lept out of the clearing toward the campsite. In a few minutes, he was there.

"Why the solemn looks?" InuYasha asked as he saw the long faces of Miroku and Sango.

"Kagome is missing."

Kagome let herself flow farther and farther east with the stream. After a few hours of drifting, it turned into a river, pulling her along faster. She could feel the tears leave her eyes, but they never reached her skin. The tears were immediately pulled into the river. She let her eyes flow as she was pulled closer and closer to the ocean. She was aware of none of this, just of the immense pain on her heart. It felt like a pressure had been removed and replced by a splitting ache. When she finally noticed that the sun had set, Kagome was barely able to summon the strength to swim to shore to sleep. But when she had finally gotten there, she pulled herself out and collapsed onto the soft grass. Curling into a fetal position, she tried to sleep.

But it never came. At dawn, Kagome decided to just let her body relax. The bank sloped toward the water and she rolled back in, unaware of it until she went under. She surfaced, spluttering. When she had regained her breath, she let herself drift again. As she watched tree tops go by, and fluffy white clouds drift along the sky, She realized the trees were getting thinner and she could smell sea salt. Kagome flipped onto her stomache and looked in front of her. The river opened up to the ocean.

'Freedom.' Kagome swam toward the open water as fast as she could. In a matter of minutes, Kagome could taste salt water. She kept swimming until she could swim no more.
