They Were by EvanescentLight

They Met

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha. But I do own this story.

He met her for the first time. Her short cut hair and scraped elbows and knees. She wore a green shirt with overalls and light-up sneakers. He, with his Gundam action figures, comic books and candy. He had a purple shirt and jeans with a Kikaida hat on his head.

"I like your hat," She said.

"I like it too," He replied.

She was three, and he was five.

They started to come to the park to see each other, and their mothers would laugh while they played with Barbie and Robot. Barbie was the wife, and Robot was the husband. They made up silly stories and said things that were only funny and made sense to the two of them.

"Are you cheating on me, Robot?" Barbie would ask.

"Of course not, Barbie! I love you!" Robot exclaimed. Then the two plastic figures would kiss, and the two children would laugh loudly and run around.

She was five, and he was seven.

They were at his house for a play day, her mom would pick her up after a delicious dinner cooked by his dad. So they sat in his room while dinner was being prepared.

"What's the difference between boys and girls?"

An innocent question, coming from an innocent little girl. He put his hand on his chin, thinking. "I don't know. I'll show you mine if you show me yours."

"Okay," She shrugged. There was no harm in that now, was there? They looked carefully. "Oh, so that's the difference. But I think yours is broken."

She was six, he was eight.

She was starting her first day of middle school when she met Naraku, her new friend. The other guy wasn't so bad, he liked watching football and collecting baseball cards too.

"What's up?" Naraku asked.

"Nothing." She replied.

"Hey. Now?" He looked at the other boy. Naraku nodded and pulled a tiny box from his bag.

"Happy Valentines Day, Kagome." Each of them gave her a present and watched her open it. It was a charm bracelet in one box, with three charms in the other.

"It's K for Kagome, S for Sesshomaru, and N for Naraku."

She was eleven, they were thirteen.

"I'm miserable with him, but he won't let me break up with him! He threatens me if I do! Guys, help me..."

She sounded so pitifully weak on the phone. She was at her house, calling on a three-way line.

"Kagome..." Naraku started.

"I'll talk to father about it." Sesshomaru cut him off. Naraku didn't take it personally, they were close enough friends to not care.

"I've got to hang up, he's knocking on my room door and I'm the only one home...I'm scared." And the line went dead.

She was sixteen, they were eighteen.
