prologue

Kaogme almost screamed the moment she heard feet shuffling in the darkened room. Stupid! she scolded herself as she closed the bathroom door behind her immediately realizing that she should have kept her mouth shut. She tried to tip toe throught the back door, she would be home free. Lord why hadn't she listened when everyone had suggested she get a gun?

"kagome? Where are you?" Her shoulders sagged with a relief as she let out a breath in a nervous rush. It was sesshoumaru. She finally came out of her hiding place. Sesshoumaru's tall form and his gleaming golden eyes.

"Kagome."His baratone was soft, merely whispering her name, yet sending shivers of delight all over her body. Now she knew the meaning of the expression bedroom voice.

"Sesshoumaru." She hadn't meant to sound so seductive, but her voice betrayed her. "What...what are you doing here?"

"You know why I came." She swallowed as she took a step closer. She did know from the moment she heard him call her name.

"You shouldn't be here."

"I couldn't stay away. You know that."

" I... I have to go." she said as he wrapped them strong arms around her. She should step away, break physical contact, but God help her, She was paralyzed.

" Not yet, kagome. Not until we've talked." She didn't bother to ask for she knew what he wanted to talk about.

"how did you get in?"

"The front door was open." sesshoumaru replied

"Really?" She never forgot to lock it. "Then I should-uh-lock it."

" I already did. I want no interruptions."She trembled at the intense look in his eyes. She brarely managed to say, "Oh. Okay." His hand snaked around her body, resting on the small of her back.

" Kagome, don't do it. I never thought I'd beg you, but I am now. Please-"

"Don't," she said quickly cutting him off. "We've already discussed this."

"No we haven't. I didn't know what to say when you told me you were going to marry InuYasha. I didn't know what to think. But I know now. I can't let you marry him."

" You...you can't stop me."

'I won't stop you if you really love him. Do you love him? Tell me and I'll walk out of your life forever." The air between them was tight and thick with tension.

'I..." Her voice trailed off.

'' You can'y say it can you?'' he tightened his grip on her.

''You know why, kagome? You know why you can't tell me that you're in love with Inuyasha?" She didn't know what to say, let alone think. She loved Inuyasha she was sure of it, but everytime she was around Sesshoumaru, she felt confused.

''Because inuyasha doesn't make you feel the way I do does he? Look at me."

"No I can't...I love him, but I love you too. You make me confused...I can't just leave we're getting married in the morning. I have family coming from all over sesshoumaru you don't understand.'' '' I can't do what you ask you I have to understand.''

''I don't.''

She sighed. ''Please, don't...let's not end our freindship this way.''

''Good bye, we can't be freinds it would be to unbearable.''

''Sesshoumaru, wait! Don't go...please.'' He wouldn't even look back he just kept on walking. She looked on until he dissapered. That was the last time she saw him.
