Old Candle, Old Flame, New Lighter by ChikaSuzuki

Chapter One- You can't be back.

Round and round and round and round. The merry-go-round spun in small circles in the old school yard, under the cover of moonlight. Two figures were there, the first standing on one side of the merry-go-round, spinning with it, dark hair flying out behind her. The other figure, pushing in a clockwise direction at an increasing speed. As speed was gained, the one holding onto the merry-go-round was thrown back and into the waiting arms of the other, almost as if the entire event had been planned.

"You fell" The one holding the other stated.

The other sighed, leaning their head back "It was your fault"

"Pay attention!" Someone shouted straight into Kagome's ear, knocking her out of her thoughts and daydream.

That had been a long time ago, yet she still dwelled on that night, eight years ago. The first time she had met him, and those were the first things that they had said to each other. No hello, no greeting of any kind. She hadn't made any objection when he had started spinning her. She hadn't questioned the stranger whom interrupted her thoughts of hatred and pain. She hadn't known that that night would be the start of so much happiness and so much pain.

"Eight years ago to the day..." Kagome mumbled out loud, once again drowning in her own thoughts. This statement caused her partner to look at her with a frown.

"Yes I know...The anniversary of your parents death...You were only sixteen. That's a young age to lose someone so dear to you." Kagome looked to Sango sighing. If only her friend knew that it was the anniversary of so much more. She mumbled a "Sorry" and looked back at the papers they were supposed to be looking over for the arrival of Kagome's new boss.

The two worked as secretaries for two of the most powerful men in Tokyo, whom ran a large company. One of which were retiring and handing his half of the company over to a trust friend who they were told was a few years older then the two twenty-four year olds. It certainly wasn't the best job, but it wasn't Kagome's place to be choosy.

Sango had gotten her this job because she was "Tight with Miroku." Whatever that meant. Miroku was know for being a player, and though Sango would never admit it, to get this job for Kagome, and to allow Sango to keep hers, there had been a bit of bribery going on between the two.

Naraku, the man Kagome worked under had made a few attempts to start something with her, but she was used to the attention and had blown him off. Kagome knew how Naraku was, and probably wouldn't have taken the job if she hadn't know whose position she was taking. But once Kagura's name had been mentioned Kagome was happy to.

Some how, Kagura had the time to be Naraku's secretary, but Kagome wasn't sure how. Between stealing away Kagome's parents, and then six years later stealing away Sesshomaru, the only person she loved in life away, she had to of been fairly busy. But Kagome supposed that being a bitch was sometimes only a part time job.

Ah well, all that was in the past. And for the past two years Kagome had been rebuilding her life slowly but surely. And today she had big things. She was getting a new boss. Another person she would be forced to impress. Once again, this would be a dull day in the life of Kagome Higarashi.

Sango, whom had been talking the whole time that Kagome was once again thinking, stood, pulling Kagome up by the arm. Nearly causing the chair to fall back behind her. Both looking to the door as Miroku walked in.

"Girls, the man who will be taking over Naraku's position, and Kagome's new boss is here."

Both caught the hidden meaning, "Go make yourselves look pretty and stand by your desks", and made their way over to their desks on either side of the office, outside the door to the man they worked under. Sango straightening her skirt, and Kagome making any final touches to her hair, they glanced at each other and then back to Miroku with a nod. He opened the door for the new boss to walk in.

Sango seemed to recognize him as soon as the silver haired angel walked into the room, Sango looking at Kagome whose gaze was glued his.

Kagome's brown eyes were wide as she stared back at her new boss, her old love, Sesshomaru. The angel fallen from heaven to earth, the savior himself, the magnificent, and many other pet names she had teased him with. The only words that she could summon to her lips were "Holy shit."
