The Lady of the East: chapter one

Kagome looked at her younger sister Rin while they sat by the Lord of the East side. The young girl was trying profusely to keep back the tears, but Kagome could see them welling up in the depths of her eyes.

"Kagome," her father whispered looking up at her with his sparkling light blue eyes.

"Yes...Father," rarely did she ever call him father but in this moment formalities did not matter.

"Take care of your mother and sister you will take over now," he said then coughed blood into his hand.

"Wait... Why not mother she is your mate!" Kagome said confused. Her mother was now the dowager of the castle and lands why would she not be the one to rule.

"She is to weak and she has already asked me to give the title and power to you," he said looking over to the open shoji screen doors out at the woman sitting with her head resting against the post. Her dark blue hair pooling around her small frame tears were silently running down her cheeks.

"I will do my best!" Kagome said while straitening her shoulders. Her light blue eyes flashing with the determination her mother once had.

"Rin... Help your sister and stay by your mothers side... alright," the Lord said looking at his beautiful young daughter she had her mothers chocolate brown eyes, but they shown with his compassion. Her only reply was a small shake of her head.

"I love you," he said, but he was not looking at his daughters but at his wife. At that moment his wife turned around and cried out.

" You can't leave me. You were supposed to be strong," she wailed into his chest, but when she looked into his eyes hey were lifeless, the Lord of the East was dead.

2 months later

"Sesshoumaru," said a pale woman brushing her hair.

"Yes mother," said Sesshoumaru not really paying attention to her but rather to the leaves of a nearby tree falling into the koi pond at his feet.

"There is a new Lady in the Eastern territory," she said looking over at her son with her intent black eyes.

"This should be important to me how?" he knew what she wanted him to do every mother longed for the time she would have grandchildren.

"Well, it would be an important alliance and... Sesshoumaru you are past the time you should have taken a mate."

"I do not need this alliance, mother, and furthermore I don't believe providing you grandchildren is on my current agenda," Sesshoumaru said, this is why he stayed away and traveled so much his mother kept pushing the mate thing and never let up till he walked out the gates. His father had been only a few years younger then he is now when he took his mother as a mate.

"Well I'm going to go meet this lovely new demon lady and see if she is worth our trouble," she said while pulling her hair into a fancy design on top of her head.

"I hope you have a good trip," he said as he stood up to leave.

"Uh not so fast Sesshoumaru, you will be escorting me," she said looking coyly over her shoulder at her son for a reaction. When she saw his glare and shake of his head in agreement she waved her hand in dismissal.

(Back with Kagome)

All three of the young lords were coming to greet and court her. All three.

Although only two of them are young one, the lord of the North, was old enough to be her father, but he was still in his prime.

"Kagome," her mother said while kneeling beside her daughter. She reached and took the brush from her daughters' hand and slid the brush through the girls dark blue hair.

Kagome examined her mother in the mirror, she was looking terrible, she was to pale and skinny with dark blushes under each eye.

Kagome shifted so she could reach her mother running her finger under one of the dark circles then running over the small gold leaf design on the side of her left eye.

Her mother smiled and helped her daughter to stand and signaled for the servants to come and help her dress. The kimono consisted of two layers the first made of light blue silk, The outer a white silk with a light blue pattern on the sleeves. The final piece was a dark blue obi.

She was ready and the three lords waited in the main dining area for her to arrive. Her mother gave her small pat on the shoulder and a small 'good luck' then left her daughter to a few moments to herself.

'What and I to do I have to chose out of these lords or there will be fighting, but if I chose the wrong one a civil war could break out or if I chose the right one my heart could be broken.' Kagome looked up at the mirror and placed her daily serene mask onto her face.

The doors opened behind her and she walked silently calming down with cool breaths of the night's air. She made it to the door to the dinning hall and said a small prayer. The doors opened for her to enter and she stepped in and looked at the three shocked demon lords facing her.
