Amounting to a disastrous effect~

Sesshoumaru stopped in a clearing when he heard a faint noise, then a small raven haired girl crashed through the trees. He looked her over and realized it was Kagome, the woman that traveled with his brother. Despite his general distaste for human she intrigued him. Slowly she stood and looked over her shoulder and squealed as she scrambled to her feet, he noticed that her bow, which she held in her hand was snapped.

As he looked at the opening in the trees a lumbering Oni stepped through. He watched it for a moment as it followed her. He waited but his brother was no where to be seen, Sesshoumaru wrinkled his dainty nose in a very particular manner and followed the creature. Once behind it he drew his sword in one swift motion he dispatched it, strangely he had no desire for this girl to die and this wasn’t the first time he saved her.

Kagome looked up at him and blinked as the monsters top half slid off its bottom half spraying blood everywhere. Kagome covered her face until she didn’t feel the droplets of blood land on her arm. She looked at Sesshoumaru and blinked. He looked down on her as he walked over. She backed against a tree and used it to get herself off the ground. Kagome took a deep breath as he leaned in.

“Thank you. I… I was on a walk and… and…" she looked back at the Oni.

"So where is my brother?" he asked dispassionately.

"At camp…” She said quietly as she pressed herself to the tree. He raised an eyebrow at her. Sesshoumaru made a small noise that might have been him scoffing or laughing, it was hard to tell.

"Can't protect his pet human." he muttered as his nose twitched a little. "That way." he pointed. When he looked back at Kagome she surprised him by the anger that shone in her eyes.

"He can't stand over me all the time." she snapped. Then she pushed her hand over her mouth in surprise. Sesshoumaru looked at her and narrowed his eyes, few dared to speak to him that way even by accident. Her strength of spirit, especially for a human, continued to surprise him.

"Not that you’d want it that way anyway." he said calmly as he looked away, he heard her make a small noise. He looked at her and she had her hands pulled up to her chest. She seemed particularly self-conches, he couldn’t help it. "Yes?" he asked quietly.

"I know your going to say no, so I don’t know why I’m asking," he narrowed his eyes at her again. "Still would you take me back to the road?" he blinked at her.

"Yes." then he asked himself why he did that. Her eyes lit up as he turned away, he glanced back.

"Ohh, thank you Sesshoumaru." She said excitedly. He turned away and started to walk in the direction he had pointed.

It only took a few moments till they where close enough that they could hear Inuyasha calling Kagome. She didn’t realize she had run that far. Sesshoumaru looked at her as he stepped over a fallen log that crossed the little used trail. She looked at him then back to the direction of Inuyashas voice.

"Inuyasha?" she called out as she hopped over the log and passed Sesshoumaru.

Sango had run up to Kagome giving her a hug. Seeing he had fulfilled his promise Sesshoumaru promptly turned away and disappeared down the path with out a word. Kagome looked around and saw that he was gone; she felt disappointed that he didn’t say anything but she knew he wouldn’t. Inuyasha walked up to her and grabbed her by the shoulders.

“Kagome are you ok?” He looked her over to be sure.

“Yes I’m fine would you stop fussing.” Kagome sighed and rolled her eyes.

“What happened?” Inuyasha asked in a slightly sour tone, Kagome scowled at him.

“I got separated from you that’s what happened,” Kagome looked at the ground for a moment. “And Sesshoumaru saved me.” When Kagome looked at him Inuyasha blinked at her then he put his hand on her fore head.

“Are you ill?” he asked her quietly. "Did you hit your head?” Kagome frowned and batted at his hands, she hadn’t told him about the headaches.

“No smell my sleeve you retard.” Inuyasha sniffed around her and scowled.

“I do smell him on you.” Inuyasha just crossed his arms. “Feh, whatever lets go.” Kagome shook her head and followed him. What she didn’t realize is that Sesshoumaru was watching her but after a moment he dispelled the flames he was using to watch her.

“A humans not worth the trouble.” He said quietly as he looked for Rin and Jaken.

Kagome nodded at Inuyasha and fell in line; she looked back briefly then shook her head. When she turned around again Inuyasha was glaring at her. She blinked and looked at the ground.

“Quiet stalling!” he snapped making her flinch slightly.

“Ok, ok, geez keep your britches on.” She mumbled as she hefted her pack onto her bike and strapped it down. She started to walk after them but she felt strange, she chased it away telling herself she was imagining things.

Later that night when they stopped and ate Kagome tried to be still and relaxed but she just couldn’t her mind was running in circles around absolutely nothing. She picked up a text book and started reading but she quickly put it back in her back pack. Kagome looked at Inuyasha and blinked as the head ach that had been plaguing her returned.

“Inuyasha, we’re not to far from the hut so I was thinking I could go home for a bit.” Inuyasha looked at her and scowled.

“What about the shards?” he snapped, she shook her head making it throb but she resisted the urge to massage her temples.

“I need stuff from my time, so I’m going and you can’t stop me.” She said forcefully, the others looked at Inuyasha to see what his response was. They got the norm.

“Keh, fine but if Naraku gets another shard I’m blaming it on you.” Kagome waved her hand at him.

“Whatever.” She said grumpily as she wiggled into her sleeping bag.

When she opened her eyes the next morning they felt like they were burning in their sockets. She closed her eyes and covered her head with the sleeping back; she lifted the edge so a little bit of light filtered in. She opened it a little more, then a little more until she was confident she could see with out being blinded but as she sat up her head started to throb. This time she cradled her head in her hands, then she heard Inuyasha.

“Are you ok?” she looked at him and nodded.

“Just a head ach, come on lets get the others up.” Inuyasha nodded and they rousted everyone. Kagome made food they ate and were off. It didn’t take that long fortunately and once they were at the hut they updated Kaeda and Inuyasha lead her away, eager top get her over and back as fast as possible.

As Kagome walked with Inuyasha to the well she felt a sudden burning at the base of her skull, she reached back and started to rub her neck. Inuyasha looked at her and frowned as she groaned.

“Kagome what’s wrong?” she gave him a slightly pained grin as the stabbing delved deeper into her head.

“I’m ok…” one of Inuyashas ears twitched. “I’m ok really just a bit stressed.” He shook his head and followed her as she started to walk again.

“Why don’t you have…” he furrowed his brow for a moment. “What do you call them again?” she looked at him funny. “You know… a umm… doctor that’s it!” Kagome would have given her head a rueful shake had the white-hot poker not stabbed her again. “Why don’t you have one of them look at it?” his ear twitched with concern.

“It’s just a headache I’ll be fine.” But she wasn’t and she always felt like she was being watched. In fact she knew she was being watched and Inuyasha was quiet until they reached the well.

“When will you be back?” Kagome took her bag from him and thought.

“Tomorrow or the next day.” He nodded and watched her slip over the edge of the well and disappeared.

When she was on the other side she dropped her pack on the well floor and rested on her knees with her head held tightly in her hands. She could feel tears start to tail down her face as the white-hot poker turned into a white-hot poker on the end of a jackhammer. When it finally subsided she grabbed her pack and clamored to the surface then opened the door. She looked around and as she slowly made her way to the door she decided that the doctor wasn’t such a bad idea; some how she didn’t think it would help. Kagome slid the back door open and stepped inside.

“Mama I’m home.” Miss Higarashi poked her head around the corner and smiled then frowned.

“Kagome are you ok?” Kagome would have shaken her head but it was throbbing.

“No I think I need to go to the doctor.” Her mother nodded her head and picked up the phone. As Kagome drug her pack to her room she could hear her mother making an appointment. After she had showered she collapsed on her bed.

The next morning Kagome stumbled out of bed and dressed her then she walked with her mother to the doctor’s office. After Kagomes examination the doctor looked at her and frowned.

“Kagome I think it’s just stress…” the woman looked Kagome down then up. “How are you doing in school?” the young miko shuttered at the very thought of it.

“Terrible.” The woman nodded.

“Well I’ve never seen a migraine this bad… I’m going to prescribe you some pain killers and if they don’t help in a few days come back and I’ll perform a few tests.” As the doctor got out her pad Kagomes eyes widened.

“How bad will the side affects be?” the woman’s face turned thoughtful.

“Well that depends…” the doctor gave her a list of meds and the side affects. She found the one that was least likely to put her out of commission.

“Will that work as well as the others?” the woman shook her head.

“No but it’s stronger than over the counter.” Kagome nodded as she took the slip and left the office.

“So?” Miss Higarashi asked Kagome as they left the doctors office.

“Pain pills.” Kagome handed her mother the slip and sighed.

“What’s wrong Kagome?” The girl shook her head slowly.

“It’s nothing.” Miss Higarashi frowned as the traded the slip for Kagomes pills and walked home.

When they got back Kagome took two pills the packed her bag. She started to feel a bit better as she walked to the well. Then she heard her friends walking up the long staircase talking. She dove into the well house and carefully pulled the door shut behind her.

Kagome leaned against the door for a moment then sighed and hoisted her pack over her shoulders as she stood on the well ledge and dropped in. When she was on the other side she could hear Inuyasha mumbling as he waited from her.

“Inuyasha.” He poked his head over the edge of the well and blinked at her. “Could you take this for me?” she hoisted her bag up over her head and felt it leave her hands. “Thank you.” he gave her a small smile as he helped her over the wall of the well.

Kagome brushed herself off and she looked around as she took a deep breath. Inuyasha eyed her for a moment until she looked at him then his eyes shifted to the ground. She blinked and cocked her head to one side; he looked at her after a moment and frowned.

“Are you ok?” he asked quietly as he moved closer and held her gaze. Kagome nodded as she took the bottle from one of the outer pockets and shook it.

“They gave me pills.” He blinked at her as they started to walk.

“Do they know why?” she looked at him and shrugged.

“Stress.” He nodded and they were silent until they reached the hut.

Sango came over and greeted her as Shippo knocked her to the ground, Miroku just nodded. He seemed to be absorbed in some abstract thought or maybe he was just absorbed in watching the way Sangos ass moved as she walked. Kagome came to this conclusion when she noticed that Miroku was watching Sango. They were all chattering about something, it regarded the shards but she wasn’t really listening because her head ach was returning.

Kagome rubbed her head gently and put her pack down on the porch; she sat next to it and rested her head in her hands making everyone stop. Sango crouched in front of her and put a hand on her knee. Kagome looked at her and blinked.

“Should you…” Kagome shook her head at Sango.

“No we need to find the shards.” Kagome gave her a desperate look as the base of her skull ached dully. “I have a horrible feeling and it’s not the pain, it something else.” Sango nodded. “It’s going to be worse if we get them from Naraku soon.” Sango nodded and looked at the others.

“So when do you want to leave?” Miroku asked as Kagome pulled out a bottle of water and took a drink.

“In a few minuets, after the pain meds kick in all the way.” She said quietly and holding to her word they were soon off.

I'm not like that~

As the walked Kagome tried to concentrate on something other than the dull throbbing that lingered after the pain meds took over. At noon, when Kagome popped another pill, she was reminded that the throbbing was better than the alternative. When they stopped for the night Kagome took another pill and laid down in her sleeping bag with out a word to the others. Sleep, unfortunately wasn’t as easy to get to as she had been hoping.

Finally after everyone else slipped off to bed Kagome got up and took half a pill to dull the pain. She sat next to the fire and poked it with a stick to keep it lit. She sighed and moments later froze as something rustled behind her in the brush. She took a deep breath and looked back to see nothing. Sleepily she grabbed her bow and quiver, her mind was foggy and sluggish from the pain meds and lack of sleep so with out further thought she got up and perused the offending noise.

She crept to the edge of the tree line and looked around. Kagome took a deep breath as she stepped into the woods and followed the sound. After the sound stopped Kagome walked a bit further only to hear a twig snap behind her. Her eyes widened as she realized it was between her and camp or at least she thought it was now she couldn’t remember which direction she came from.

Kagome faced the monster with her bow string taught an arrow notched. She blinked and looked around, there was nothing there. Kagome frowned and lowered her bow then she was struck from behind. She stumbled forward and landed on her bow snapping it in half; she scrambled to her feet cursing. She was forced to stop dead as her assailant grabbed her wrist and roughly turned her around.

Her eyes widened as the thing grabbed her around the waist. It was huge, bulging muscles rippling grossly under the thick darkly tanned skin. Kagome tried to wiggle away but something smaller grabbed her arms and tied them together. Then the large one dropped her, she tried to scramble away but with out the use of her arms it was useless. Not to mention she just ran into the one who bound her. Kagome looked up and the other person, a woman, grinned at her. Kagome gasped, the woman was frighteningly beautiful. Her skin was the color of starlight and her hair was so dark it absorbed the light around it, the woman’s bright green eyes laughed at her.
