Mae's by Farw chan Nos

Welcome to Townsend

He had just moved to the small town of Townsend. Nobody had really heard of it before, but he liked that small, quaint atmosphere. He was supposed to meet the movers at noon at his new house. It was a medium size, three bedrooms and two and a half baths. A good size backyard, which was important for his dog, Meesha. She was a large husky, so she needed a lot of room of run around. She was currently staying at his parent's house, until he got everything settled in. He would pick her up later in the week. Passing the highschool where he was going to start teaching at, he drove down the road. His stomach growled loudly.

Maybe I should get some food, he thought. He saw a diner up ahead.

His car slowed to a stop, and he examined the small shop. The name was "Mae's". The outside was painted a light beige color, with an open sign and the shop hours in one of the small windows. It looked decent enough, and he wasn't picky, so he decided to stop. Parking in one of the few available spaces, he turned off the engine and hopped out. Straightening his dark blue button up shirt and jeans, he closed the door and locked the car.

Climbing the three steps, he opened the door. The bells chimed as he stepped in, signaling to the other occupants that someone had entered. The place had about 12 tables, ranging from a table for four, to two. A long counter was towards the back, with the cash register sitting on it. Six black bar stools were lined up in front of it.

The place was quite busy, and everyone was chatting noisily. As soon as one person caught sight of the tall newcomer, the entire diner became silent and stared. Now, Sesshomaru was not one for getting embarrassed easily, but something about this situation was unbelievably embarrassing to him.

He stepped farther in and said, "Err...hello"

As soon as he finished speaking, a young woman came out of the kitchen holding two plates of pancakes. Sesshomaru's light brown eyes swivelled towards her, taking in her appearance.

She was quite short, he guessed around 5'2" or 5'3". Her black hair was up in a messy ponytail, and her bangs fell around her chin. She had dark blue eyes, surrounded by black eyeliner, grey eyeshadow, and black mascara. Her lips had a slight sheen to them, showing that she had put on some lip gloss recently. She was wearing a plaid green button up shirt, dark blue skinny jeans, and dark green sneakers. She was very cute, he thought.

Bringing the plates over to a table, she set them down. She wiped her hands on her black apron, and walked over to him. Looking up at him, for he was 6'3", she smiled.

"Hello, I've never seen you before, and I know everyone in this town. I'm Kagome Higurashi, but my friends call me Mae."

His stomach flip-flopped.

She was beautiful...

"I just moved here. My name is Sesshomaru Evans" his voice dropped to a whisper, "is there a reason everyone is staring at me?"

"Oh, they are just nosy. Ignore them, they do that to everyone" she laughed, turning around and giving everyone a pointed look. The diners quickly started new conversations and went back to their meals.

"See, they're harmless. Come, follow me, you can sit over here." She led him to one of the bar stools. He quickly sat down on one, and folded his arms on the counter. Kagome handed him the menu. She grabbed one of the now full coffee pots, and went around giving refills. His eyes scanned the menu. It was traditional diner food: sandwiches, stews, fries, breakfast foods, etc.

When Kagome came back to him, she asked him if he would like a cup.

"Yes, thank you" he answered, folding the menu back up and placing it on the counter. Kagome grabbed a large coffee cup from under the counter, and placed it in front of him. Filling the cup with the dark liquid, she peeked up at him.

He was very tall, as she noticed before, and very handsome. He had shoulder length light blonde hair, with bangs slightly covering his eyes. Thin blonde eyebrows arched over light brown eyes. They were very pretty. He had a piercing in each ear, consisting of a small blue stud. His button down shirt was fitted nicely to him, and she could see a white wife beater underneath.

When he cleared his throat, she jumped. A blush began to appear on her face, spreading down her neck and disappearing down her shirt. She had been caught. Her hand had jerked when she jumped, spilling some coffee on the counter.

"Oh shit.." she swore, and grabbed the towel she kept in her back pocket. Quickly mopping up the mess, she straightened up.

"Are you ready to order?" she asked, pretending nothing had happened.

"Yeah, I'd like the waffles, with the strawberries on top, please." he stated, pushing the menu towards her.

"Good choice" she said, putting the menu away. She walked over to the window in the kitchen. It was really convenient, so she didn't have to walk all the way into the kitchen every time to get the food.

"Hey, hun, I need some waffies with straws" she yelled to the cook, who was busily mixing pancake batter. His purple eyes twinkled as he looked at Kagome.

"You got it, babe" he hollered back, giving the batter over to his assistant. He walked over to the waffle maker, which had a tub of batter and an assortment of toppings next to it. He masterfully poured the batter on to the machine, and closed it. He grabbed a clean plate from its rack, and returned to the maker. Miroku was one of the best chefs in Townsend. He had been best friends with Kagome since they were in junior high. His black hair was pulled back into a little ponytail, and his black chef's coat had some white flour stains on it.

When the waffles were ready, he took them out and laid them on the plate. Putting one on top of the other in a slant, he poured the strawberry mixture on top. Grabbing the home made whipped cream, he spooned some on to the side, and put it on the pick up counter.

"Waffies done, Mae" he yelled, ringing the small bell next to them.

Kagome returned from ringing another customer up, and brought Sesshomaru his waffles. She placed the plate in front of him.

"There you go, waffies with straws."

He raised an eyebrow. "Waffies...with..straws?"

"Hey, this is my diner. If other people can make stupid diner language up, so can I. So leave me alone." she defended, sticking her tongue out.

"Alrighty then" he said, taking a bite of his waffles. He chewed carefully, then swallowed. They were very good.

"They are good, Kagome." he said, taking another bite.

"I'm glad you like them. Hey Roku, he says it's passable" she yelled to the kitchen, smiling. She looked back at Sesshomaru. He had paused in pulling his fork out of his mouth.

"Well, tell Mr. Ultra he can come back here and cook if he wants" was the reply.

" I said no such thing" Sesshomaru said, finally taking his fork out.

Kagome smiled.

"Welcome to Townsend, hun."
