Introduction: Family Reunion

On a clear spring evening two figures stood atop a grassy knoll that overlooked a crystal blue stream that wove toward some snow capped mountains in the distance. There was still a bit of daylight and amid the beginning songs of the crickets chirping, the rippling stream and a gentle breeze came a harsh rattling from one of the swords that the tall stoic figure kept at his waist. The smaller of the figures, a tiny impish green demon, wrung his hands nervously as his companion reached down with his clawed hand and attempted to silence the temperamental weapon.

"The Tetsusaiga is near, Jaken."

The little imp looked up at his master in alarm. "What do you plan to do my Lord," he whispered anxiously.

Sesshoumaru closed his eyes, and instantly his already powerful senses amplified. He could hear the last remnants of a battle being fought in the distance, and could clearly smell the scent of freshly spilt blood. However, amongst the pungent smell of death came another scent, a sweet scent that almost startled him. Pleased that he had found that which he was seeking, he broke out of his concentration. Strangely the sweet smell continued to invade his senses and a faint smile tainted his lips.

Jaken gasped as he witnessed this unusually rare display of emotion upon his master's face and studied Sesshoumaru in silent admiration. In the many decades that he had become the Taiyoukai's servant he had never quite gotten used to his Lord's stoic beauty. .. a handsome aristocratic face with golden eyes like the sun, sensual lips and flawless skin. He was tall with a lightly muscled build and despite the absence of another arm he was still quite formidable looking. Upon his brow was a violet crescent shaped marking and on each of his cheekbones and wrist he sported two magenta colored stripes that told the story of his full demon heritage. Jaken stood mesmerized as he watched Sesshoumaru's incredibly long silvery-white hair dance in the breeze.

"Let us go," Sesshoumaru said quietly as he turned to walk towards the direction of the battle.

Snapping out of his thoughts Jaken quickly ran to catch up with his master in alarm. "What do you plan to do my Lord?

Sesshoumaru paused for a moment and stroked the thick cream colored pelt draped across his shoulder lazily. "I think its time we pay my brother a visit."

"B-but my Lord, do you think that is wise," Jaken asked nervously. Sesshoumaru gazed down at Jaken coldly and the little demon cowered in fear. "N-not to say that you have any reason not to seek out Inuyasha but, what of Rin? I thought we were not going expose her to any danger."

Sesshoumaru glanced over at a young girl of about ten who was playing in a vibrant flower bed by the stream. Sensing eyes upon her she looked up and waved happily, then picked a quick handful of the flowers and ran over to them. Smiling she handed the little bouquet to Jaken and pulled from behind her back a large blossom and gave it to Sesshoumaru. He brought the large flower to his nose and smelled its sweet scent and Rin giggled as the Great Demon Lord sneezed.

"I love you daddy," she said softly as she grabbed his hand and they began to walk away.

Jaken looked at his little present and grumbled under his breath. In the beginning it was strange having the little girl around, especially since it was widely known that Sesshoumaru detested humans. At first he had found her annoying, a weakling and he constantly wondered why his lord kept "the little pest". But now... he had to admit that she was a comfort, and she had somehow softened his and Sesshoumaru's heart. I can't imagine Rin not being around, he thought to himself.

Sesshoumaru glanced back to see his little servant staring at the flowers in his hand and smiled slightly. "Do not worry Jaken, I will honor my promise to my daughter. She won't be harmed."

Jaken looked up in surprise and noted the fleeting smile on his master's face. Au-Un, growing impatient, and not wanting to be left behind growled softly and picked Jaken up by his collar and began to lumber after Sesshoumaru and Rin, ignoring the colorful words the imp dangling from his teeth was shouting.

*This story is a rewrite from a story I posted a little while back called a Miko's love. After I started writing it again it started to take a completely different turn so I just continued on in that direction. In the chapters ahead there will be some slightly religious tones so if you are easily offended please don't read. For those of you to brave on into my slightly deranged imagination enjoy and please forgive any minor mistakes for I have not the luxury of a beta. Please review and tell me what you think. I highly appreciate good constructive criticism.*
