An Innocent Wish by *~*Faithful Vampire*~*

Chapter 1

She walked into second grade classroom, her presence demanding to be known. Slender china doll colored arms swayed at her side, contrasting against her mid-thigh, black, halter top, dress. Blue eyes filled with excitement as she glanced around the room, seeking the whereabouts of the lucky child. Long wavy black hair bounced against her back with every step she took. Her eyes found a brown haired girl with warm brown eyes that she just couldn't look away from. Kagome glanced over at the teacher and nodded her head.

"I believe I have just found the lucky kid." The teacher nodded her head and walked over to Kagome.

"Which one is the lucky one?" A smile rising to her face as Kagome pointed to the girl she just found moments ago.

"Ah. That is Rin Takahashi. She is a very intelligent girl but I'm afraid she really isn't very social with the other children. There have been problems in the past of the other students bulling her." Kagome nodded her head and walked over to the girl. She bent down to her height and smiled at the girl.

"Hi Rin, my name is Kagome. Today, I'm going to grant you any wish you want. But first, I need to talk to you parents to make sure it's okay. Are you excited?" The little girl flashed a toothy smile and nodded her head excitedly.

"Well Rin I need you to pack up everything in your desk and get all of your assignments for the next week. Then meet me at the main office okay?" She nodded her head excitedly and began putting all her papers in her backpack. Kagome walked out and headed towards the main office.

"Mr. Takahashi, we assure you. This is not a scam. Ms. Higurashi has let us know for two weeks in advance of her arrival and everything she plans on doing. Well, here she is Mr. Takahashi, so you may speak with her yourself." Kagome stood in the door way staring at a pair of eyes she'd never believe to see again. His face would have been the same if it was not for his emotionless mask he had on.

"Well, well Ms. Higurashi. It's a pleasure to meet you again after oh how long has it been? Seven years? Six?"

"Eight." She coldly replied. Her heart clenched in sorrow and anger as he stepped forward. A smirk rose to his face.

"So explain to me exactly what you are going to do to my daughter?" The words stung her like swords being shoved into her chest. It wasn't fair. She spent two years grieving over him leaving her by herself when she had a child on the way. He didn't know about that when he walked out the door though. Gaining composure over herself, she brushed off nonexistent dust off of her dress and smiled.

"Well, I do believe there is a Starbucks around the corner. Mind if we go there with Rin and I can give you the details there?" He nodded his head and turned to the little girl that tugged on his pant leg.

"Daddy, you're going to let me go with the pretty lady right? She said she'd grant me any wish I wanted! Rin knows what she wants dad." She pouted and stuck her hands on her hips. Stubborn kid she was becoming.

"We'll see about it Rin. Now Kagome, whose car are we taking?" Kagome glanced out the window realizing she had walked a whole two miles from her house to here.

"Want to walk or did you bring a car?" She said, smiling at him. He sighed and walked out the doors with Rin tagging behind him. The little girl began skipping over to a midnight blue Scion TC that sat over in the front row of the parking lot. She opened the back door and hopped in, buckling herself in. Sesshoumaru opened the passenger side door for Kagome and waited for her to place the seatbelt in its rightful place before shutting the door. She whispered a small thank you while he started up the car.

They drove a few blocks before reaching a decent sized Starbucks. After parking, he got out and began walking to the passenger side of the car until he noticed she let herself out.

"I can function okay as far as getting myself in and out of a car Sesshoumaru." A smirk rose to his face.

'She's changed quite a bit." The thought passed through his mind. Rin ran to the door and painstakingly opened the door for her father and new friend. They both walked in quickly and voiced their thank yous. Kagome walked up to the counter and began to order.

"Hi, I'd like a grande raspberry mocha frappuccino." She turned to Sesshoumaru.

"Want anything you two?" He nodded his head and walked up to the cashier.

"A venti double shot espresso please and a short hot chocolate." Rin began jumping up and down with excitement.

"Okay your total is $9.34." (That's not the real price. But I'm not about to go to Starbucks and order this to find out the price.) Kagome pulled out a ten dollar bill and paid the cashier. Sesshoumaru tried to hand her another ten dollar bill but she smiled and pushed it away.

"I've got it covered Sesshoumaru. I'm nowhere near hurting for money." He nodded his head and placed the bill back into his wallet. They stood over where the drinks would be handed over at and watched Rin walk from table to table debating which one was the best.

"Where's her mom?" Kagome asked, continuing to focus her attention on the girl as Sesshoumaru did. The words stung at her heart but she wanted to know who the lucky woman was that got to have his first child.

"I don't know where ether of her parents are. I found her at the park by herself one day. Apparently from what she says, her father left her and the mother dumped her at the park. So after a couple months of trying to find them, we both decided I'd adopt her. This was about three years ago though." He sighed softly and noticed the drinks were there. By now Rin had found the best table and was excitedly sitting down in one of the four chairs.

Kagome grabbed her drink and sat across from Rin. Sesshoumaru sat next to Rin and rested his head on his now propped up arm. She took this as a sign to begin spilling her plans.

"Well, for an entire week, Sunday through Saturday, from eight am till eight pm, she will stay in my care and under my watch. We will do whatever she wants to everyday. I will not be attending work at all for those days so do not worry. If she wants, I can give her a tour of what I do. On our last day, Saturday, I will grant whatever wish she wants." Kagome took a sip of her drink and glanced at him curiously. His cold face hid any emotion from telling her whether or not she'd get Rin. Sadly, Kagome was looking more forward to this than Rin ever could.

"What is it exactly that you do for a living Kagome, to have such a nice income as to spoiled a child?" She smiled innocently.

"I'm a pediatrician and I happen to own my own hospital. It's nothing huge yet, but we have a rather nice building with about 15 room all furnished. When I say I'll give her a tour that would include that she would get to see all the equipment I use and even get to try them on me if she wishes." Rin's eyes widen immediately as she slowly stopped slurping her hot chocolate.

"Rin would love that Ms. Kagome! Rin really would! Can I play with the other kids that go there?" She gawked at Kagome with immense excitement.

"Sorry sweetheart but mostly sick kids go there to get better. I don't think your daddy would like it very much if I take you home sick now would he?" Rin sighed and folded her arms in a huff.

"I guess so." She whispered as she took another sip of her hot chocolate in peace. Sesshoumaru glanced at the calm child and looked at the smiling woman in front of him. There was a certain calmness and sadness in her eyes as she continued to stare at Rin, unaware of the look Sesshoumaru was giving her. He coughed lightly, breaking her out of her trance.

"Oh! Excuse me that was rude of me. Do you have anymore questions Mr. Takahashi?" He simply shook his head and took the last sip of his espresso.

"Then I believe it is alright for me to take Rin starting on Sunday?" (A.N: This is Friday.) He simply nodded his head and glanced at Rin. The little girl had already gotten up and thrown away all three of their finished drinks. Kagome got out of her chair and bent down to Rin.

"So we'll get to spend the whole week together! Begin to plan what you want to do what your wish is okay?" She hastily pulled out her Blackberry Curve (cell phone) and glanced at Sesshoumaru.

"Do you want to exchange numbers so we can call to discuss if anything else pops up?" He nodded his head and pulled out his Blackberry Pearl. They exchanged numbers and Kagome began on her way out before having a hand wrap around her wrist. She turned and curiously stared at him.

"Tomorrow night, let's meet at my place so we can talk and Rin can get to know you a bit better." She slowly nodded her head while secretly questioning herself if she could handle going to his house. A smirk rose on his face. 'Uh oh.' Flashed in her mind like a warning sign.

"I believe you do need a ride home?" A small blush rose to her face. It was going to be at least a thirty minute walk home in her high heels. Defeat hit her hard in the gut as she swallowed the lump that formed in her throat.

"Yes, that would be nice." Sighing, she hoped silently that he would just drop her off and that would be the end of it.
