the bitter truth

Kagome waited in the middle of the Inuyasha forest in a small clearing, she waited for a person, and the same person she first pitted then envied and now understood more then anyone she ever knew. She looked from her dainty ankles with witch she was previously fascinated, to see the person in witch she came to this place for. "Hello Kikyo pretty night huh?"

Kagome asked while only stopping to glance at Kikyo as she looked into the starry night sky.

"I suppose, if you're interested in that type of trivial fate."

Said Kikyo as she glanced at the sky as well, before returning her attention to her younger counter part.

Kagome had been meeting with Kikyo for seven months; she had trained with her, conversed with her, and listened to what the older women had to say about life and love.

(Flash Back)

"Kagome life and love are a lot alike there both bittersweet, beautiful as well dangerous.

You must proceed with caution with both but you must not devoid yourself of them it is hard but you must keep a watchful balanced of both, we are not normal mortal women you and I we have an obligation and responsibility to the sacred jewel, we are it's gardenias and are born to protect but don't be mistaken it is not a sin to want to be loved and protected ourselves. I suppose what I am trying to explain is that you can not truly live without loving I know this now, though I am afraid I have learned this lesson much too late I advice you not to make the same mistake."

(End of Flash Back)

That was the first night Kagome met with Kikyo, ever since then she knew the extent of Kikyo's loss and hers and Inuyasha's love. She no longer loved Inuyasha in a romantic sense and in fact hadn't for a long time, even before she began meeting with Kikyo, she realized she could never hate Kikyo and could never stop Inuyasha from loving her. Before she started seeing Kikyo she gave up on love and the whole romantic notion of it. She was now nineteen and though that was still young in the future, here women were already married with children; she could never find anyone willing to accept her for her and not the powerful miko she was fast becoming, that mixed with the jewel was enough to make any women have her doubts about love and life. Kikyo noticed the change of spirit in the young women that was her reincarnation. Now normally she would have had cared less but she recognized her situation as one she herself once suffered and remembered the loneliness she harbored today. No one should have to go through life alone and lonely and so she decided then and there that she would help this young women. She began following Kagome to keep her safe and observe her, it was then that she noticed a familiar presence, that of the western lord Sesshomaru at first she was alarmed for kagome, and then when he showed no threat to the young women she became curious. He continues to fallow Kagome to this day. Kikyo confronted the young lord a few times about his intentions but every time he responded the same saying it was of no concern of hers to witch he promptly left, only to return the following day. Kikyo thought this strange but never really knew the young lord that well.

"I suppose everyone needs a form of entertainment. Said Kikyo more to herself then to anyone in particular."

"Huh?" Asked Kagome now looking at the older women with mild confutation.

"Nothing of importance said Kikyo turning away from where she last felt Sesshomaru's now fading presence. Lets start your training shall we?"

Kagome shook her head in a positive motion.

Kikyo then took out a dagger previously counseled in her sleeve and preceded to cut her arm from her inner elbow to her wrist.

"Now Kagome heal me before I bleed out, I only have a certain amount of blood in this body from previous women."

Kagome healed her and her wound closed almost immediately.

"Very good Kagome but I am afraid that is all I have left to teach you the rest deepens on your will and strength in mind."

"Does this mean I'm a trained miko like you now?"

Kagome asked the other women with hopeful eyes.

"Yes you are a fully trained miko like myself as you say."

Kikyo said with a slight glistening of sadness in her usually steady eyes as she looked upon the young now miko's face.

"I suppose I shall be leaving now, before my concealment spell wears off and Inuyasha comes seeking me."

"Kikyo why won't you join our group I'm sure no one would mind."

"As I have told you before while the idea is appealing I must decline."

"I know but why? I don't understand."

"Kagome you are my reincarnation meaning I am dead, I should not be here in this world. The world of the living is no place for the dead I do not wish to disturb the beings in this world and that include your comrades and Inuyasha."

Kagome looked at Kikyo with sorrow filled eyes and asked only one question.

"Will you leave me and Inuyasha then?"

"Yes at the end of my journey I shall go back to hell were I belong."

Kagome then looked at Kikyo with tears threatening to fall and ran in to the unknown forest.

"I am sorry Kagome but this is it must be."

Kikyo then turned from her previous spot where she knew Kagome had just fled not but a few moments before and walked to the other end of the clearing in to the dark forest with a single soul collector as her only company.
