Best for me and Emily by thyme
engagement.
Kagome has never been happier. She has almost everything she's ever dreamed of! She has a big house, a successful job, and an attractive boyfriend. There's just one thing missing: A family. Kagome walks down the sidewalk beside Inuyasha and smiles as a young girl flicks a marble her way. The marble rolled and went off the side into a murky pond. Kagome had to stop and help, and that's what Inuyasha loved about her. She removed her high-heeled business shoes and stepped into the pond. The mud sloshed through her toes and sucked her feet. She bent, smoothing her gray skirt to save her dignity and plucked the muddy marble from the pond.
Kagome climbed out and gave the marble back. The little girl thanked her before bounded off. Kagome watched, the need for a child burning even greater than she'd imagined. Kagome had always stayed up every night to pray for a loving husband who could give her a daughter.
Kagome, graduating high school at age 16, was 22 and already had her Ph.D. Her job as a therapist was so great she never had time to herself. She was very popular in Tokyo, Japan. Everyone loved her lively way and kindness. She never treated her precious patients as mental or emotional nuts who REALLY needed hobbies, like other therapists did. She could call all of her regular patients by their first name, and never be considered as being rude.
Kagome was smart, kind, and beautiful. Her raven hair, when not in its usual bun, reached her curvy waist. She had all of her mature curves and long arms and legs. Inuyasha loved her body as much as her intellect. And she was so innocent it was cute, though sometimes annoying. Kagome loved to be outside, so she would take her patients to the park and talk. And whenever she didn't have a meeting to partake in, she wore casual dark blue jeans and a t-shirt. Her files were always organized. She'd mark the progress of all her patients on individual folders and get them out whenever she had them. It was her way of doing things.
Inuyasha was still in college, even though he was a year older than Kagome. He had his own little music store that got its share if business. He had met Kagome a year before she graduated college and they had been together ever since. He loved her, but he also had feelings for her cousin, Kikyo, who was almost an exact copy of her.
"So, Kagome," Inuyasha began. "I'm going to have to go away for the weekend, but I'll be at your place at four on Monday."
"Oh, okay," Kagome replied. "Where are you going?"
"Can't tell," Inuyasha smiled. Kagome looked at him with suspicion. He only chuckled. She shrugged and looked back at the park. Inuyasha and Kagome entered her big apartment and settled down. Kagome went into her room and changed clothes, while Inuyasha lounged around in the living room. Kagome came out in a big t-shirt and loose-fitting jeans. She heard Inuyasha on his cell phone in the living room. "Iie, iie. Hai. Hai. Nani desu ka? Hai." Silence. "Hai! Sayonara."
Kagome entered the room then and went to the kitchen to fix them their dinner. She felt Inuyasha's sizing gaze on her. Kagome turned to him with a bright smile. Inuyasha smiled back. She went on and finished the pizza. They ate in silence in Kagome's living room watching a movie. Kagome hated the secret he was hiding, and wanted it out of the way. Inuyasha pulled something from his pocket and threw it in her lap. Kagome jumped, startled, looked up at him. She looked at the box and opened it. A shiny diamond ring glinted up at her and she looked up at Inuyasha in surprise. He had his question burning in his eyes.
"YES!!!"
