The white walls annoy her, mocking her need of comfort.

The jacket she wears seems too tight, the room too small, and the feeling of being watched overwhelming and coming from everywhere.

They placed the jacket on her, saying, "You're not capable of protecting yourself."

"From whom?!" she screeched, the shrill sound of her voice bouncing off the confined space of such white walls.

She tried to find the answer in her mind, playing the events of why she was here over again.

*********

Waking to the constant alarming sound of her door bell, Kagome threw back the heavy sheets covering her. Casting a glance at the clock, she read, " 3:00am? Just who could that be?" The question asked aloud received no answer in the dark of her room, but the sounding of her bell had been almost frantic, and she knew she could not ignore it.

Stumbling her way clumsily down such steep, dark steps, she made way towards the front door. Upon reaching it, she stood on her tippy-toes and peeped through the hole of her cherry wood door.

Her eye's opened wide. What was he doing here?

Opening the door, she revealed a distressed Inu-yasha. He was in dire need of a comb and a shower. His clothing hung carelessly from his body; his shirt looked as if it had been put on in a rush, revealing his left shoulder, his belt was in his hand instead of around his waist, and his right, clawed hand was clenching the front of his oversized navy blue jeans to hold them steady on his hips. His long silver hair was terribly knotted, tangled about his head. His normally so golden eyes, were streaked with ugly red. And his lips were swollen and abused.

Ushering him inside, Kagome quickly went to the kitchen to retrieve him a much needed glass of water.

When she returned to him, she held the glass forwards, her hand hanging in the air waiting for him to receive his drink.

But his eyes never met her own. He leaned against the door, staring off at nothing.

She silently walked back to the kitchen, only to return to wait for an explanation; yet he stayed silent staring, contemplating god knows what.

Finally finding the courage to move closer, Kagome lifted her hand and brushed his bangs aside to see his eyes more clearly. But it only caused him to turn his head away. Trying another method to gain his attention, she tapped her index finger against his chin. Yet he continued to be non-responsive.

"Inu-yasha", her voice, though soft, rang loud in the silence of the room.

Outlining his trembling lips with her index fingers, still he did not or could not respond to her.

Worry began to consume her.

Carefully, she turned his head towards her. But he averted his eyes, casting them low at the ground.

She draped her left hand along his waist, wrapping her right hand at the nape of his neck.

Within a flash he grabbed her, pulling her into his chest, burying his nose in the crock of her neck. He in took her scent in heaves of air, as if trying to permanently scar a part of himself with the memory of her. His tongue snaked out lapping at the flesh, nipping at the skin above her pulse so slightly with his fangs, branding her with his scent.

Burying his hands in her silk ebony strands, he shifted, pulling back only to slam his lips against hers in a bruising kiss. With licks and bites, his assault was somewhat brutal, almost uncaring in his crushing force and tearing of his fangs against her tender flesh.

The taste of alcohol was overpowering as he tried to force his tongue past clenching teeth.

She fisted her hands into his shirt and tried to push him away. The lack of oxygen was starting to go to her head. Understand her silent request, he pulled back, satisfied with nuzzling he nose into the side of her neck.

She wheezed, trying to quench her burning lungs.

"Kagome", he said in a breathless tone, his words muffled an unclear as he finally broke his silence. "What I'm about to tell you, won't be easy. So please......"

After hearing his words, Kagome blanched. She knew. Somewhere deep inside of her, in the darkest places where only dark secrets were kept; she knew what he was going to say.

Trying not to accept the inevitability of his words, she backed away, unwilling to listen.

"You," she stated through clench teeth, her eyes blazing in fury. "You!" She repeated the word over an over as she backed away from where he stood. No other words would come, no other reaction but to get away.

"You bastard!" she screamed finally before biting down hard on her bottom lip and drawing blood, trying desperately to hold back such hatred and resentment.

Wheeling away from him, she stalked back towards the room which they shared, him following close on her heels. Picking up anything in her path that belonged to him, she thrashed them in his face. The words he spoke, the pleas he made, were falling on deaf ears.

Raised voices, and the sound of breaking glass echoed loudly throughout the empty house.

Trying, but not succeeding, in ceasing Kagome's slaughter of his things, Inu-yasha finally became sick of chanting clamming words and apologies.

He grabbed her roughly by the shoulders, unintentionally throwing her against the wall and causing her to bang her head in the process.

Kagome warned him off with an ear piercing scream. He pulled back from her, his ears flattening against his scull in pain.

Released from his hold, Kagome slid slowly down the wall at her back.

"Please let me explain," Inu-yasha pleaded again. "Just let me just get my side of the story out."

Kagome shook her head sharply, expressing her disdain by flinching and shying away every time Inu-yasha tried to near her.

"I want you to get out NOW'!" she screeched.

Hanging his head, knowing he could never make her see reason now, Inu-yasha turned and began to walk out of the room. But it was the next words spoken by the woman that held his heart that nearly made it break in two.

"The sight of your face sickens me." She spoke with none of the compassion he had loved her for, with no remorse. There was no forgiveness for him even in her loving heart. "Don't worry about your belongings," she spit out at his retreating back. "I'll be sure too burn them."

Inu-yasha, his shoulders slumped, his head bowed in defeat, cast his hooded sun kissed orbs over his shoulder at Kagome's crestfallen face.

Seeing turquoise eyes resembling that of a man he abhorred, said eyes that reflected strong words of pain, misery, misfortune, and loss; Inu-yasha knew he had lost.

"It didn't mean anything to me or her," he tried, if only for himself to hear it. "She's sorry. I'm sorry....We hit a plateau period. I..."

"I don't care," she cut him off. "Leave."

Her words were said in a dangerously venomous sneer. It made his skin crawl. He turned and continued his journey towards the front door, the desire to look back at her, to see one last time and remember the women he cherished, nearly overpowering.

But he dared not. The previous look was enough, and the pain that reflected in turquoise eyes made his heart clench and his stomach jump.

"If I never see you again it will be too soon!" Kagome exclaimed at the sound of the front door slamming closed. The house shook after the impact, and her shrill voice hung heavily on the air.

Inu-yasha's sensitive ears heard her shrill words spoken out of rage, heard her whimpers of despair following. His keen nose smelt the overbearing odor of tears floating down to him, tearing at his senses, ripping into his sanity.

Forced to grab hold of the reins of the beast within that beat against his walls of restraint, snapping and snarling, demanding its freedom, whimpering for its lost mate; he willed his feet carry him away from the women he let down.

In the confinement of her home Kagome she let emotions rule her. Trying with little success to stop the tears that resided at the edge of her eyes, she lifted her head toward the sky. But nothing could stop the sorrow she felt in her heart.

She knew she was taking a risk when she let him in, but still she went ahead and open the door of opportunity. Now her only escape was the window, but that was only a desperate escape, the final fall of misery and anguish.

She had been warned that love was a two sided blade, and if you were not careful both partners could get cut. Well, in her case it seemed, only she got cut, and he left her with the big gash in her heart allowing the ruby red content to seep out onto the carpet signifying his departure.

Staring blankly out the window as tears bathed her face, memories that were once cherished turned biter and unwanted

She hadn't vacated her dorm since the tragedy called her 'Ex'. That had been 4 days ago, give or take a few.

She hadn't noticed the time past, had failed in every one of her responsibilities; boycotting all her college courses, and ignoring all mandatory appointments.

She had tried self-assurances, prep-talks, motivating speeches; nothing seemed to work. The only thing that seemed to happen was the steady deterioration of her mood. Darker and darker shadows began stretching across her heart, constricting with painful memories.

Her mind was awash with hate and anger, always asking the same question: why was he the one to forfeit by betrayal?

Could he have not gone down the common guy route, broken up with her via email, phone call, answering machine, text message, anything to avoid the break-up they did encounter?

It was beyond her comprehension why he'd take that route.

'He let me down. And she...she knocked me down, trampling me in her parade to get to him.'

Perhaps the signs were obvious, yet she was oblivious to the attraction. Maybe if she had noticed ahead of time she could have prevented such an act of infidelity.

Five sighs later and half a bottle of vodka, her phone rang. She didn't even both to look at the caller ID, didn't bother looking towards or for the phone for that matter. It was more then likely buried under the junk food she had used to suppress my anguish, and despair.

The world around her blurred as she let the alcohol do it job, consuming her into a world full of blissful ignorance lacking Ex-s, infidelity, and severe despondency.

In the background of said ignorance the theme song to "The nanny" played. Kagome slurred along, "She was....working in a b-ridal shop....." was all you could hear as she begun her own uninterruptible version.

Slipping from her listless fingers, the bottle hit the floor, knocking several others she had used to lighten her oppressive mood. Her world darkened as she fell unconscious among the many failed attempts to end her life.

Escape by the bottle.
