Chapter 1

"I will take it."

Those five words that were spoken three months ago just didn't seem like such a good idea anymore. Sesshoumaru Tashio leaned against his countertop in his Japanese Victorian based mansion. This home was just about the only one of its kind, and whoever the previous owner was had let it fall into a state of total diminishment. He looked at the weathered shouji doors and dull large rooms and saw them as they once were. Beautiful and rich, with paintings with intricate patterns, large bay windows and tranditional Japanese architechture all set off by beautiful furniture and color schemes.

He bought the home for pennies on the dollar, only 250,000 American dollars, and he and his brother Inuyasha worked on renovating it. Inuyasha was a profesional landscaper and had a small company while he himself was a professional renovation designer and worked for the largest architechturing firms in Tokyo, which his father owned. He, Inuyasha and his small team of his two childhood friends Bankostu and Miroku had transformed the overgrown, weed infested backyard and front yard into a beautiful oasis. The backyard held a wide assortment of sakura and oak trees and flowers. They had even managed to fit a pool into the former greenroom and constructed a sturdier covering and connected it to the main house. The front yard was trimmed clean and had a large tree sakura tree which was framed in flowers. They had fixed all of the minor electrical and circuting problems and completely renovated most of the rooms. The home was truly beautiful now.

But still, Sesshoumaru wasn't satisfied. He looked at all the boxes piled all over the house and sighed, he hated living in chaos and needed some serious assistance in decorating. Grabbing his remote and turning on the HD/TV he had sitting over the adjacent counter.

Flipping through the channels he sighed, taking a drink of his bottle of blue Gatorade. Quickly finishing the bottle, he put down the remote and went to throw the bottle away. Sesshoumaru ran his long, clawed fingers through beautiful casscading silver hair as his golden eyes focused on the TV.

Nikiro Natashi, a pretty, local talk show host in her early thirties, was going through the usual lineup of guests. The topic today was guests with unusual jobs. Sesshoumaru picked up the remote, he really could care less. He had only flipped it on to catch the news or a good game. The news wasn't on yet so he readied to flip to ESPN-Japan.

"Our first guest is Miss Higurashi Kagome and her associates Miss Lee Sango, Miss Evette Washington, and Mr. Bano Jakkoustu. They are the owners and workers of the successful and renound (sp?) Designs By Desire Inc." Nikiro was saying.

Sesshoumaru rolled his eyes. He could care less about some liengerie company, and quite frankly, he didn't even want to hear about it. Sesshoumaru's finger was just about to press the POWER button until the camera zoomed in on a beautiful woman sitting in a straightback chair. Sesshoumaru did a double take. She had smokey blue eyes and naturally unruly, wavy black hair that went to her midback. The sexy pantsuit she work showed off her lovely, athletic frame and showed her curves.

'Now' he thought. 'Things are getting interesting.'

Two other attractive women were next to her and another man who looked frighteningly like a woman.

"Now, Kagome, I understand that you own a design company that tottally redecorates homes here in Tokyo." Nikiro said smiling.

"Yes that's right. I and my co-workers work to give the people in Tokyo homes that they could be proud of." she said, her voice sweet. Sesshoumaru's mind was begginning to whir.

"I also understand that you and your co-workers have been called 'hired wives' from time to time."

Kagome let out a laugh just short of wicked. "Yeah, that we have been called. Except Jakkoustu."

"Yeah, we try to keep him away from our male clients." Evette said, her pretty brown eyes sparkling with amusement as the man, Jakkoustu, pouted.

Nikiro laughed. "So, has anyone tried to actually make you a little more than their hired wives?"

All three women'd eyes narrowed slightly. "If a client goes past the boundaries of business, the case is dropped immeadiatly and the contract is void." the woman, Sango said.

"Oh, really? But has it happened before? And you honestly can't tell me that you haven't been attracted to SOME of your clients." Nikiro urged.

Kagome sighed. "Yes, some of our clients were almost drop-dead gorgeous. But they were still dropped if pushed past the business barrier."

Sesshoumaru's grin was pure sin. "Obviously you haven't met me."

"Wow. Now that's restraint. Now, Kagome, how exactly do you work?"

"Well, I'm in charge of design layout, Jakkostu does the gardening and color arrangement, Evette is the layout artist, and Sango is the furniture supervisor. But we only work together on one house for about a day and one of us takes over that project on our own once everything is arranged."

"Interesting."

"We are also personal shoppers, cooks, housekeepers, anything our clients need to make their lives easier, we do." Kagome smiled.

"Hm...I'll start making a list." He said.

"How do you know that your designs don't suit you, but the owner?"

"By getting to know them and seeing how they work and talking over arrangements over a casual dinner. We know that some people want a room decorated based on an object or a favorite hobby, whatever suits them."

"Exactly." Sesshoumaru nodded. That bright yellow in the upstairs guestroom he just wasn't feeling.

"Wow. Have you ever come by a house that's challenged you?"

"Nope, we can make any home a pleasure to come home to." Jakkoustu said.

"Any home? Well, how 'bout this, ne?"

"What?" all four said.

"How about a challenge. How about you select a client, each of you, and renovate their home.We come and do a before and after, and see if you really are the best. But still, you never mentioned price."

"Our designs can be budgeted. And trust, we can pinch pennies with the best, but we don't mind suggesting a two thousand dollar vase if we think it'll complement the room."

Nikiro's eyes widened. "Ano...well, there you have it folks. If you need your home done up or just re-done, call this number at the bottom of the screen for Designs By Desire Inc. And ladies, this is nothing personal, but we much rather perfer it be some handsome man who needs a little help from a hired wife. So call this number at the bottom of the screen!"

Sesshoumaru shrugged. 'What the hell.' He thought as he wrote down the number. He found his phone book somewhere and found the adress of the place, writing that down as well. He then set about conquering his box for today yet again.

Kagome Higurashi sighed as she drove to work in her gold Mitsubishi Gallant at 7:00 AM. She knew that being on Nikiro's show would boost ther popularity, but not this much. She had been getting calls for over 10 jobs. And that was just the last three hours!

She pulled up to the shopping center where her company was located, she noticed a person standing outside.

From what she could tell, he looked male. It was only until she got out of the car did she know for sure. He had long silver hair and beautiful golden eyes. He wore a blue button-down work shirt with the sleeves rolled up, showing off his killer forearms and large hands. He had on a pair of black slacks and a pair of workshoes. His beautiful eyes were trained on her the entire time she walked towards him.

"Hello. May I help you?"

"Yes," came the beautiful barotione out of the lucious creature's mouth. "I am looking for a desgner for my home."

"I am sorry, but we are not open yet." Kagome said, ignoring the familiar but rare warmth pooling in her stomache.

"This I know." he said. "My name is Tashio Sesshoumaru. I am simply here to see if any one of you can refurnish my home." he said, folding his arms.

"I see, Higurashi Kagome. Well, what does this home look like? Is it an apartment, a one level home..." she said, waving her hand for emphasis.

"I live in a Victorian-based, Japanese-influenced mansion. It has three stories and about fifteen rooms, eight bathrooms. The first floor is the kitchen, living room, dinning room, office, library, and ballroom. I am not sure, but, I believe the house was built by an Englishman during the Victorian period and the American Imperialism Era." he said.

Kagome's eyes widened. "This house seems umreal. I have never heard of such a home."

"It is on the outskirts of town. If you wish, after about five, I can show you. And, if you wish to take the project, then we can discuss the details over a casual dinner." he said.

Kagome blinked. This could be the biggest case she had ever taken on, and she loved it. "Yes, I will be sure to do that." she said, opening the door to her company. "If you will excuse me. You can have a seat here if you wish." she said, going into the back office.

Sesshoumaru sat and waited. She returned shortly.

"Here is my card with my personal number, or the number of my associates. Please call at your earliest convinece."

"I will Miss Higurashi. Have a nice day. I will call you around two o'clock." he said curtly with a nod of his head. He turned and left.

Kagome took a deep breath. "Kami it's not fair for a man to be that gorgeous...wait--Bad Kagome! He is a potential client, not a potential boyfriend!"

She sighed as she sat down, still chastizing herself, ready to begin a new day of work.
