A Real Family by Love the Fluff
Prologue
Prologue
"Youko Kurama you are here by banished from the Northern Lands never to return. That is the sentence given to you for your crimes," the Lord of the North spoke in a calm voice to the man who faced the charges.
Youko Kurama looked up at the Lord of the North in hatred and disgust. His honey eyes glowing with and evil fire that scared the Lady who was also at the public sentencing of the most wanted criminal in all of the Northern Lands. His silver hair blew in the wind as the first storm of the winter season began.
The people around him cheered as they heard that he would no longer be darkening their doorsteps. Their villages were once again safe from the bandit of the North.
'These fools think that they have seen the last of me, well they still have everything to fear because tonight my plans are put into action.' Youko was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard the smooth voice of the Lord ask him if he had any last words before he was escorted to the border.
"You think that you have won Kai but think again for something in your life will go missing and you will never see it again," the threat came out as smooth as butter but as cold as ice. Youko Kurama was taken to the border where he headed west to restart his reputation of being the most terrifying bandit in the West instead of the North.

Two years had past since the bandit Youko had been banished and the people of the Northern Lands had all but forgotten him and his threat.
Kai walked through the halls of his palace thinking about how big his little girl was getting. She would be two very soon and that meant that she was old enough for young demon males to start courting her with his permission of course.
Kai was approached by a messenger as he reached his study. He took the scroll without question and dismissed the boy who had delivered it. It was from the Lord of the Western Lands, Inutashio. 'Well this should be interesting,' he though as he broke the royal seal.
Lord Kai,
I have a proposition for you. It is about your daughter. She has come to the age were you have to start worrying about who courts her. Well my proposition is this: how would you like to finally tie the West and the North together in the marriage of your oldest daughter and my oldest son? Think on it for I shall arrive two days following this letter.
Your friend,
Lord Inutashio
Kai was excited to know that he would not have to put his only child through the courting process. It would have been very hard on her and he was not sure that his mate, Tara, could handle it.
Tara had had trouble getting pregnant so when she had found out about Kagome she had been so ready to be a mother and couldn't wait for the baby to get here. Now that Kagome was of courting age though she had become violent when it came to protecting her pup. Maybe this would help her to settle down and just spend her time having fun with Kagome.
With that Kai headed to the garden where his mate and daughter were. As he approached his girls he took a moment to admire their beauty. Both had shiny raven hair and while Tara had deep blue eyes, Kagome's change to different shades of blue depending on her emotions.
"Tara," Kai spoke softly so as not to frighten them as much.
"Oh! Kai I didn't sense you coming," Tara greeted him with a bow and a smile.
"We need to talk." His tone was very serious.
"About what?" Tara was scared that something horrible had happened.
"About Kagome. Now it is nothing bad but I thought that I would let you know that I am going to accept Inutashio's proposition that his son and Kagome get mated when they both come of age."
"Kai you promised that I would have a say in this. I want Kagome to fall in love not just have to be stuck with someone that we chose for her. Why are you agreeing to this?"
"Tara, my word is final. Kagome will have all the time in the world to fall in love with little Sesshomaru." With that Kai left the gardens and his mate's presence.
All through the conversation the couple failed to notice a pair of honey colored eyes watching the princess very closely. A guardian angel perhaps or was it the devil in disguise. What this shadowed figure did not understand was how two year old Kagome could sense him when her parents, who had thousands of years experience, could not.

Two days after Kai had told his mate that he had picked out a male for Kagome his close friend and the Lord of the West Inutashio arrived to discuss the matter at hand. He was treated as if he himself were the Lord of the North upon his arrive though this was nothing new to neither him nor his sons.
"Kai it has been to long since our last meeting. We really should set aside some time to just be men instead of being Lords," Inutashio's voice was a smooth baritone as he joked about their status.
"Yes it has been awhile since we last let ourselves go. But let us get the business that needs doing done before we break out the sake"
"Ah...well....I suppose that we don't need any repeats of trying to do work with a hangover. Now allow me to present my eldest son Sesshomaru."
Kai looked down at the boy who was a spitting image of his father. His silver hair flowed down his back instead of being in the ponytail that his father traditionally wore. His amber eyes were soft with youth while he looked up at the man he considered his uncle. The boy looked like he would rather be anywhere but where he was.
"Uncle Kai can I go and see what Kagome is doing?"
"Sure you can Sesshomaru. But I think that she is in lessons right now, if you would like to wait." With that he watched as Sesshomaru ran off to be with his friend.

There was no moon that night, the night that she disappeared. All that was heard was a loud crash and some crying. By the time the guards reached the princess' room she was gone. Her mother fell to her knees in sobs and her father howled his grief the Northern Lands. The Prince of the Western Lands waited his turn and then he howled out his grief as well. It is said that his howl was heard across the four territories of Japan.
