Happiness Is a Ways Away by redguitar

Happily Ever After

So I finally decided to get off my lazy ass and actually write a story. Yay! Though before I write the whole thing (which I haven't) I wanted to test a couple chapters out to see how everyone liked. If you like than review and say so. Well than on with the story.

Disclaimer: I own nothing expect for the wallet that I lost in Kauai and was miraculously sent to me! There are good people out there.

Happily Ever After

What happens to a hero that lives happily ever after? Do they stay in the immortal fairyland where everything is black and white?

Does an author eternally bind a character with the label of good and evil, where change is unheard of. Is change a marble face in the land of sweet lies a constant amidst our world of upheaval.

What is happily ever after? Is a hero's end always gallant and brave, even if all they want to do is run? Does a story die when you close the book. Does a hero?

"A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but is braver for five minutes longer."

- Ralph Waldo

The screams of terrible agony did nothing to break the stupor that held Kagome hostage. With unseeing eyes she merely gazed at the grotesque bodies around her. 'Strange' was the only thought running threw her head when she realized that some of the bodies looked familiar.

Blasting winds from the on-going battle quickly roused the dazed Kagome as she turned with a fierce determination. A grizzly scene met her eyes. Carcasses of low demons were heaped up in hap hazardous piles, the ground quickly turning into a sickly red mud as the life trickled out.

A strange crater lay in the middle of the field, the area around stripped clean laying like a dessert. Only a single strand of beads proved that life had indeed once thrived.

On one of the few reaming trees were two figures impaled by each others sword, embracing together in the last moments of life. Tragic love.

The battlefield which would be a shrine in latter years was a picture forever engraved in her mind. A Kodak that no one should ever have to suffer in having.

Tears ran silently down from the glowing eyes of the miko; scarring, burning. With practiced movements she notched an arrow. All battle ceased. The remaining warriors watched as the blazing aura was released, passing them each in turn. The aim was true, and the spider demon painfully became nothing more than a dusty baboon hide.

Over, it's over.

She looked in the faces of the ones remaining. Kikyo, the undead priestess had some akin to pride in her cool eyes. Inuyasha, the lovable half-demon that was more an older brother than anything.

Sesshomaru, the enigma that was a demon lord, was the last face she saw before falling into a dark oblivion.

'Is there no happy ending when the journey is over?'

Whew! That took a while. Sorry if at first this seems a little slow I needed to create a background before doing anything else. Any comments are welcome, beside the rude brain smashing ones. My brain already hurts.
