Warrior of Time by LennyRose

Prologue: 500 Years

Kagome didn't know where she was.

Well, that wasn't entirely true. She was pretty sure she was still in her bed at the shrine her family owned. She just wasn't sure where her dream self was.

Other than floating twenty feet in the air.

Beneath her was chaos.

Villagers rean from serpentine beasts who killed all unfortunate enough to come within reach of their teeth. Bodies of the dead rose like puppets to attack those they once called friends, while fire consumed houses- sending more terrified villagers out in to the madness.

In the middle of it all stood a man, all but his head covered by a baboon pelt. He was laughing- a cold, harsh, evil sound.

And Kagome felt as if she should know him.

As if sensing her presence, the man looked up, his dark, rusty red eyes met Kagome's vibrant sapphire ones, and he smiled. It was a dark, sinister twist of his lips, and it sent a wave of terror through Kagome like she had never felt before.

A dark tentacle flew towards her, giving her no time to react before she was skewered. Kagome fell from the air in pain...

Only to land on a hard cement floor. She felt the air expel from her lungs with a loud 'oomph!'

Kagome lay there for a long time, immobile. Only when a pair of sandal clad feet came into her line of sight did she scramble to her own.

The feet belonged to a woman. She was pale with vibrant, blood red hair and eyes like emeralds that seemed to hold the secrets of time. She wore a forest green kimono adorned with red flower petals. When she spoke, her voice seemed at old as her weary eyes.

"Kagome, Guardian of the Ages, I have been waiting long to meet you- since my birth. Many times have met over the ages, but never were you ready, never was the world ready. Now, you- and it- must be, or all will surely perish."

"What are you talking about?" demanded Kagome.

The woman motioned to her right, Kagome looked and saw a mirror.

But it was not her image she saw reflected in it's depths.

It was the scene she had been witness to before- the destruction of the village and its inhabitants.

"This scene will occur all across the world unless you can accept your destiny. The fate of all rests on your shoulders, Guardian."

"That's a heavy load for one person to carry."

"It is, but you have no choice. It has already been written."

"Why me?"

"You are the Guardian of the Ages, the chosen warrior of Time. My warrior."

Kagome looked into the eyes of Time, opening her mouth to argue.

"I don't want-"

Her eyes snapped open and she finished her statement, staring at the roof of her room.

"-to be your warrior."

Time and the strange chamber had vanished, leaving behind a deeply disturbed Kagome.
