Eternity by Night silence

The journey begins

(A/n: This story was supposed to be for an English short story (with different characters) but it was too long and would never fit within the 600-850 word limits. So I changed it and turned it into an Inuyasha story. I hope it's ok. I mean, I'm not a very good writer. Enjoy, if you can.

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha, nor do I own any of the characters. Only Rumiko Takahashi could ever own it.

But I do own this story. Me and only me. So bug of plagiarizers!

PROLOGUE

Three deep, bloody claw marks lay embedded into his check. Salty tears brimmed his eyes as he clenched his jaw to fight off the pain. "Why, Father?" he asked.

A cruel, dark figure just glanced at him; immense disgust glowed from his darkened eyes. With a wave of his clawed hand, two guards rushed in and grabbed the young boy. Iron chains were tied around his arms and legs, immobilizing him.

The two stubby creatures carried him out of the room and down the dimly lightened corridor. Every step the guards took, his blood ran faster and faster. Overwhelming fear rose within him as one of the guards threw open the door of dungeons. The wooden boards hit the stone wall with a loud bang. Again his blood ran even faster when he looked into the seemingly bottomless pit.

A gush of cold, foul smelling wind surrounded them. Even the guards winced. They quickly took away the chains and threw him into cellar. When he started to fall, he grabbed a protruding piece of frozen rock. He desperately tried to pull himself back up. One of the guards saw this and crushed his fingers with his metal shoe. A menacing chuckle spilled from one of the guards when a scream of exploded from the young boy.

The door was slammed shut, enclosing him into a world of darkness as he fell. No light was provided. His stomach was lost as gravity pulled him down.

After what seemed an eternity, he hit solid ground. The wind was knocked out of him, for he landed on his chest. Wild panting and greedy gasps for air was the only sound that was heard.

Quickly he turned into a small dog. His true form. Again and again he rammed himself against the wall, in a futile attempt to escape.

'Who am I? What purpose do I have in this world?' thoughts like these evaded her mind as a servant slipped the traditional red kimono of her family onto her slim form. The obi was snow white, a great contrast to the rest.

Her waist length, midnight hair was wrapped into a bun, held up with only two overly decorated chopsticks. Heavy trinkets were added, weighing down her head.

Perhaps the most noticeable characteristic about the young maiden were shinning sky bright eyes; but now they were dull and lifeless, ever since her father took her life away.

A child's doll, she claimed herself to be. Never receiving a voice in anything in her life. Always being pushed around to do other's bidding and only for show. Her father thought of her as only a trophy.

Slowly she walked out of the room, head high and back straight; just as the strict instructor had threatened for her to do. He was very arrogant and wouldn't take anything less than perfection.

Large, thick oak doors swung open. At the other end of the room, was where the lord and lady stood.

The lady was fun and supportive, always there to help. Many times, when the girl was a child, she would run to her for encouragement. But the lord was the complete opposite. A slight glare spread on her flawless face. He had whipped her with a leather strap many times, as punishment. Anything he said was always criticism.

Seated at the tables around the princess-to-be; all the members of the court and the commoners stared in awe. Ignoring them, she stared ahead at the lavender cushioned throne.

The kimono dragged behind her. It wouldn't be surprised if she had tripped on it while walking.

Finally, she reached her parents. The corner of her deep rose colored lips twitched a little as she looked down at them. She towered over them a full head's length.

A servant quickly rushed in from the side, carrying a pillow. Upon it was a sparkling, crystal tiara. This is it. After all those years of torturous training, she was finally ready to become princess. How she had longed for this moment all her life. To rule, to have everyone in the kingdom at the mercy of her delicate hands. But was this what she truly desired?

When her father picked the tiara up, she sat down with her legs under herself. Soft, round knees were together and her hands in her lap.

"Today is a great day for me, for everyone." The Lord boomed to the entire court. "Sixteen years ago, on this very day, my daughter was born. Now, being trained for many years, I think she is ready to become a true princess! What do you think?" The last statement came out more of a command than a question.

The crowd roared with agreement. Whistles, claps and cheers deafened everyone. After the cheer died out, his majesty exclaimed, "Now I proclaim you, Princess Kagome of the Northern Lands, the greatest land in the world!" With that, he placed the tiara on her head. Again the crowd cheered with great enthusiasm.

'The tiara is actually much lighter than these stupid decorations in my hair. Still, if only I could rip all this off and wear my miko clothes!' she exclaimed in her mind.

After this there would be a feast; which was probably the only reason why the villagers came. "Let us now feast!" her father yelled. At the very moment, hundreds of servants carried in platters of all sorts of glamorous foods. Entire roasted pigs, made many people drool with hunger. Sushi, fish, vegetables were there. Much more was piled onto the tables, but she left while everyone was distracted.

In the deserted hall, Kagome slipped off the irritable sandals and pulled her kimono up so it wouldn't rip if she stepped on it. This kimono was one of the many treasures her family owned. Then, as fast as her human legs could carry her, she sped all the way up to the western tower where her homely room was.

She burst in, not caring if anyone heard the crash of the rice-papered doors. She threw off the kimono and everything else into a messy pile on the enormous, silk futon. In the large closet, were the miko clothes she had been dying to change into.

The pants were baggy and the color of a moonless night. A white kimono shirt was tucked in to the pants and free of any stains. Under the soft bed, was where she hid the bow and arrows she often practiced with.

Her mother and father had strictly forbid the usage of such weapons. They always say 'Princesses doesn't need to defend themselves. That's what guards are for'. But the stubborn miko never listened to them.

After she tightly tied the quiver to her back, and had the bow in her hand, Kagome quietly slipped out of the room and into the hall. From what she could strain her ears to hear, all the guests were still slopping away shamelessly at the food.

If she went through the front entrance, there would be no doubt she would be seen. Kagome could sneak out and practice her archery in a nearby forest outside of the castle walls.

Behind the gardening shed, which was long since abandoned, was a small crack in the wall. Though tiny, her slim body could fit through.

If she went through the front entrance, there was no doubt she would be seen.

Soft footsteps could hardly be heard as she walked through the hall. Portraits of her royal ancestors seemed to stare at their new princess with their unblinking eyes. All of them had dark chestnut eyes and were proper people who had never set foot outside of the palace walls.

Silently, she slipped through the kitchen; the strong aroma of freshly cooked food still lingering in the room. Kagome pulled aside several large, heavy bags of rice, to see the hole still there. She got on her knees, and started to climb out.

It was much harder than before, as she noticed. She had grown quite a bit since the last time she traveled through. As she squeezed through, she imagined what would happen if a servant came in and saw her butt stuck in the wall. What a suprise he would have! Finally, with sore hands and knees, she got out and made a mad dash to the garden shed.

Kagome ran with heavy steps, knowing that no one would hear her from the blaring loud music that was being played. The wooden sandles on her feet clicked loudly against the stone pathway. Her hair whipped around and some got in her mouth, but was quickly spitted out. Kagome could feel her breasts bobbing up and down as she ran. Her white bindings weren't helping them.

By the time she got behind the building, her breath was a bit labored from excitment and a little bit of tiredness. Several minutes of sprinting did their toll on her. She quickly regained her breath and ducked through the crack to freedom.

(A/n: I'm stopping here. I hope you guys are still interested in it. I know I deleted the first one, but I did it wrong. Please rate this well and send reviews!)
