Soul Of the Jewel by Calix of Heaven

Is there a rule all demon marks have to clash?

Disclaimer: Inuyasha was copyrighted 1997 by Rumiko Takahashi/Shogakukan, Inc. I don't own it.

AN: I know there are enough Kagome is a demon Kagome and Sesshoumaru demon fics out there. But I read them like people eat valentine candy so I believe I can write one more and hopefully others have my appetite. This is my own take and twists on the genre. Lemon fest here we come. And a warning to all readers now sometimes my chapter titles make no sense.

Calix of Heaven

Chapter One: Is there a rule all demon marks have to clash?

The air hung heavy about the lord of the western lands. It had been three weeks since the fall of Naraku. He had decided to join his half brother to make certain that baboon skinned hanyou was destroyed he would never touch what was his again. Rin still had nightmares from the baboon hanyou's capture.

He remembered looking coldly at the assembled party before him. Without him they stood no chance at all, three ningen, a Kitsune kit, fire youkai (a pet), a rag tag wolf youkai pack, and the hanyou. The battle had been long and fierce. Naraku had called thousands of youkai to swarm the group. By shear accident of design he had found himself beside his half brother holding off the swarms. Tetsusaiga had swung in the hanyou's hand using the Bakryuuha repeatedly surprisingly with accuracy.

A loud scream had rung through the battle gaining his attention. The young ningen that traveled with his brother was holding a limp Kitsune in her arms and started to glow with a pearlescent pink glow, she passed the kit to a passing wolf youkai and advanced on Naraku. Foolish ningen he had thought as the tentacles of the hanyou swarmed to strike her, but he was surprised as her light blasted each tentacle. She advanced on the enemy until only she and the hanyou were encased in the shield of light she was maintaining. The battle stilled the youkai ceased their attack all rang with silence the all-encompassing pink glow inside the shield had the attention of all. Time stood still and in the end the young ningen miko had somehow destroyed the cursed hanyou. The miko wench had caught his slight interest though for about a minute after the shield cleared revealing only her self no hanyou and no jewel, the most pleasant smell and power had clung to her skin falling into her body gradually and hiding within her flesh. Afterwards the damned jewel had not been found which had amused him. He would not have to deal with his insignificant brother as full youkai.

After the battle the lords of the three lands had paid him a visit. It was merely a show of power to determine if the hanyou was dead also to spy on the state of his lands no doubt. He had to admit he was even amused himself when the Lords had looked at his left arm surprised. When the power from the miko's shield was dispelled his arm had been restored to him, yet another fact that made him unconsciously think of the ningen miko. Perhaps he had even tilted his wrist to show the stripe on his arm through the sleeves on his kimono but the taiyoukai would never admit to such a provocative show. 'That's right power hungry youkai it's my arm' he thought with a sneer in his mind at the Lords amazed looks.

However disturbing news from the North had come to him. Rakasha a tiger youkai and lord of the Northern lands had told him the stones of the moons were lit which was no surprise of the old families only his own still shown on the stones (the stone of the new moon.) Rakasha had informed him that the stone of the old moon was lit. An heir of the old moon was a tragic occurrence it meant somewhere was a full-bloodied demon with claims to the Western lands which was not his hanyou brother.

However it was an impossibility for an heir to exist the last heir of the old moon was sealed some one thousand years ago with a ningen, a miko. A slight sneer curled his lips Perhaps somehow they may have had an offspring and sealed their identity for millennia, he disbelieved the possibility of such a thing which after all was only Youkai legend. In the absence of the family of the Old Moon the lands of the west had gone to his fathers great, great grandfather. However it was a very delicate situation and such a possibility as an existing heir of the old bloodline would not be possible except for one way. The miko and the last heir must have sealed a child somewhere, which was a disturbing, thought. A powerful miko was the one type of ningen who could survive giving birth to and give birth to a full-bloodied youkai (the stones would only recognize a full youkai) but they were always female. If this were true he would have to find the last heiress and mate with her to seal his claim to the lands before any other males attempted to do so.

The night was a dark curtain around Kagome in the cool air of Sengoku Jidai. The air felt refreshing on her skin...perhaps she should return to camp? Sango had about twenty minutes ago. Yes she should return she swept her hair back and scratched the back of her head. It appeared certain things needed getting used to like claws for one thing. She looked down at her hands the palms were longer as well as the fingers they appeared deceptively delicate. They were stronger as well, she had to be careful with her grip now.

How could this happen? She believed she was turning into a Youkai...yet she had made no wish. She did not even remember much of the end of the battle with Naraku. Impossible images passed in her mind of another battle a different one. One with someone she suspected that existed long ago and one else. They fought side by side surrounded by thousands of Demons. Until all ended in a flash of light and the Shikon was formed. She must be Midoriko...but what did it mean? Who was the other, and a Youkai at that with her? He bore the same marks that were slowly appearing on her body.

How could she hide the fact that she was becoming a Youkai from Inuyasha...He would accuse her of using the jewel. She didn't and if so not deliberately the Shikon no longer existed as a physical object she could feel traces of its power within herself. She would have to tell him before he found out, and it would have to be soon. Was she being a fool? Like he would believe her about her growth spurt...her body wasn't even her own anymore.

Her sense of smell was a nuisance, cause believe it or not...humans did stink. Did they ever bathe? How suspicious was that one Kagome she thought. Since when did she rush through a village? It was disturbing. Miroku had a constant musky smell whenever he looked at Sango. Sometimes Sango's scent would become sweet around Miroku.

Fast movements would get her attention. She had caught a rabbit out of the corner of her eyes today and it ran for the woods, she didn't even think she had pursued it down the hill and into the woods. Only Inuyasha's shout of "hey bitch!" had stopped her from bounding into the woods, and what catching it? If she did what would she do to the bunny...she didn't even want to think about it.

Thank Kami she had kept this useless make up in her bag. She pulled out a mirror and looked at herself, her wrists had coiled aquamarine marks on them as well as her ankles and she had a bolder mark around the nape of her back that curled down almost decorating her belly. In all her years of detecting the jewels she had never seen such marks on a youkai. The marks of the Taiyoukai of the west were kind of similar...what a thought. She had something in common with the ice prince.

Thank you mom she thought, her mother had bought her a pair of black leather boots for her adventures or she would never be able to hide her lower markings. These were not that difficult to cover all she had to do was cover them with clothing. It was the curled marks on her cheeks the disturbing mark on her forehead and eyelids that had to be covered about every four hours with makeup. She giggled if she was stuck with youkai eye shadow marks for the rest of her life at least she didn't have that horrid red color like the ice prince.

Her eye markings were aquamarine like the rest of her marks except for the one that frightened her a little. If she was being honest with her self of all her marks this one disturbed her. On her forehead she had a purple mark on her forehead in the shape of the crescent of the old moon. Her facile markings appeared to be almost exact to the Youkai in the vision with Midoriko. Yes her colors were aquamarine and purple...was there a rule all demon marks had to clash? She got up from the hot springs. Was she that tall when she came here? She sniffed lightly something was different, her scent it had changed. Great she had lost nearly all of her human scent. Inuyasha would know something was different immediately. What she wouldn't give for a new moon. Now that was not a nice thought.

She didn't even know what kind of demon she was but she was getting a good idea. Her nose detected something. She was beginning to learn that a demons sense of smell was about as annoying as having a wanted and unwanted radio station on all the time, her inner radio must have been mostly news. What not another strange smell? It was spicy and kind of smelled like black lotus as well and it was coming from, oh Kami Sama...her. Her muscles tensed before a sharp pain shot down her back it felt like her bones were wrenching and distracted her thoughts. Her body stiffened and something was tickling her legs...please don't let that be what I think it is she thought. She looked down what appeared to be a fluffy black tail was twitching on the ground. How was she going to hide that from Inuyasha?

What the hell was she doing? She was standing in the middle of nowhere in her bare skin, Her bare obviously not human skin. It was becoming obvious she was turning into a demon. Her head felt kind of light and where was that delicious almond and musk scent coming from? It was rather close. She looked over at the rocks that formed the side of the pool and saw a hint of silver behind the rocks where her cloths used to be. Silver...what was Inuyasha doing here?

What was that hentai doing with her cloths? Well he probably already saw her changes. What did that Baka think he was doing? She looked down at her tail curling it around herself to cover as much as possible. It felt like soaked silk on her skin and kind of tickled. At least he hadn't turned around yet, she'd had enough. She stood up on the end of the bank with her rather more impressive height now. That Baka was looking at her...was that her underwear?

"Is that my underwear? Just what the hell were you planning to do with that?"

He turned around no ears on his head and a flash of red on his cheeks; his eyes were golden but colder and narrower. This was not Inuyasha.
