Beautiful Lie by KagomesImmortal

Showdown

Kagome had only left for a while, only to go and bathe. tears burned in her eyes as she stared at the wreckage of her old village home. Collapsing to her knees she placed her face in her hands, sobbing. Flames licked the sky as they erupted from the remains of the building reflecting in her deep brown eyes, only causing Kagome's pain to escilate. She had never felt utterly defeated until now. Blood slithered like snakes down her wrists from four cuts in her hands she had accidentally opened with her nails from clenching her fists.

"I will avenge you all..." She muttered, sudden determination and hatred engulfing her heart. "Who ever did this will pay with their lives..."

It was only now that she noticed the demon standing in the middle of the burning wreckage. Long silver hair fell down to his waist, and he wore white pants with a matching top. On the shoulders of his shirt ran a strange red pattern. Just below that was a metal chest plate. A Spiked shoulder protector extended over his right arm, and his other had a strange white fur over it. His gold eyes stared at her, not giving anything away. A blue cresent moon was printed on his forehead, and two stripes extended over his wrists and cheeks.

Kagome narrowed her eyes. "You did this..."

The demon did not move, just continued to stare at her.

"You monster!" She hissed, springing up and ripping a sword from her sheath. "I'll kill you for what you did!"

The demon still did not move, only watched her with curiousity. "So you will confront me? This will be quite entertaining."

Kagome let out a growl of hatred. 'This demon just slayed my entire family, and now hes mocking me? I'm going to rip out his stomach!'

She charged towards him, sword ready. The demon still did not move, but a smile had slid across his lips. Swiftly she prepared to swing, and the demon lifted up two clawed fingers. His nails began to glow brightly, and as he swung, a long whip extended from them, colliding with her cheek. Kagome was sent flying backwards, letting out a gasp as she landed painfully on her side.

"Had enough yet human?" the demon narrowed his eyes, still smiling.

"Fuck you!" Kagome growled, racing forward once again.

This time she took a more cautious approch, dodging all of the demon's moves. The demon jumped back, growling as a sharp pain burned into his side. Glancing down, he noticed the human's sword burrowed into his side. Without a second thought he grabbed its handle, ripping it from his flesh. Blood spattered the ground, and he cursed silently when he realized it would take a while to heal.

Kagome now revealed a dagger, glaring at him with an expression as hot as burning coals.

"Well, I'll give you credit, human. you are alot faster than most of your disgusting kind."

Kagome didn't know what to say. She wasn't even quite sure if that was supposed to be a complement.

"I don't care what you think of me!" She hissed, once again running at him.

The demon shook his head. "You are very skilled. you will die a honorable death."

"I will not die to the likes of you, you vermin!" The demons words only made her angrier.

She felt her dagger colide with his kimono, ripping it slightly. he swung his arm gracefully at her, knocking her back again. Only then had she noticed the two swords sheathed by his side. His left hand slid to one of the handles, and he pulled. Kagome's eyes widened. The demonic ora of this sword was over powering. One name echoed in her mind. The Tokigen.

The legend of the Tokigen had been passed down in their village for centuries, along with the legend of the Tetsaiga and Tensaiga. This demon was the lord of the west: Sesshomaru. Sesshomaru was said to be one of the worlds most powerful demons.

Sesshomaru smiled. "I see you reconize my sword. Well, take one good look. Its going to be the last one you get."

Kagome felt her heart skip a beat. Fear filled her eyes.

"Don't tell me your giving up?" Sesshomaru taunted.

Kagome glared at him. "I would rather be grinded up then be killed by the likes of you!"

"Be careful what you say, woman. I can fufill your wish."

Kagome stood, feeling hatred scorch her heart again. Preparing her dagger, she said all of the names of her family members to herself to make herself angrier. This time Kagome threw the dagger, obviously catching Sesshomaru off guard. It skinned his cheek, leaving a deep, long cut.

Kagome smiled, pulling out another dagger. "By the way, just thought I'd let you know, these daggers are poison-tipped. Extremely deadly to demons. The more powerful the demon, the more painful the poison reacts. Even if you kill me, your fate has been sealed. Only I know of the antidote."

Sesshomaru stared at the woman in disbelief. A twinge of fear jolted his body as he felt the cut start to bubble and burn.

"Wench!" Sesshomaru snarled, loosing his very delicate patience. Before Kagome could realize what had happened, she was dangling by Sesshomaru's hand, which was grasping her neck, slowly cutting off her air supply. Her mouth was opened, trying to drag in air, and her hands scrabbled feebily at his. Suddenly Sesshomaru lurched forward. Glancing down, he noticed yet another blade in the skin of his stomach. He flung the girl to the ground, growling angrily as he ripped it from his flesh. Glancing at the blade, he noticed a dark purple drop fall to the ground. It was another poison dagger.

Kagome's lips slid into a smile. "Your going to die. Face it. I just made the process speed up."

Sesshomaru watched the woman with curiousity. "I'll make you a deal. Spare me, and I'll revive your village."

Kagome narrowed her eyes. "You will not do it. You hate all humans. How can I trust you?"

Sesshomaru closed his eyes. "Demons such as myself take honor very highly. I will not lie about this. If you spare me, I will spare your family."

Kagome eyed him carefully. "I don't know... I would have to know you much better."

Sesshomaru rose a well-groomed brow. "Well then, what do you suggest?"

Kagome thought back to the words she had heard from her father: Learn to know your enemy, Kagome. It may be the only way to get what you desire.

"Maybe... we can get to know eachother. maybe we can live together for a while, now that i have no home." Kagome spat the last part bitterly.

Sesshomaru seemed thoughtful for some time. "Alright then, human. You can live with me for a short time, only long enough for you to understand i do not lie. Then, you will give me the antidote and I will revive your family. after that, we are back to enemies."

Kagome nodded. 'After this is over and he revives my family, I will kill him.'

Sesshomaru smiled. 'This will be interesting. This women has no idea what will be in store for her after our short time together.'

Together they walked away from the ruins, and once again Kagome looked over her shoulder, wiping tears from her eyes.
