She'd always loved him. He'd always loved her. They were youkai. Their emotions were ignored. They didn't care about each other in their minds. But in their hearts they loved each other more than life itself.

Their story has been told a million times over in several languages, with several differences. He was taiyoukai of the west she was second hime of the north. They showed no care toward each other, but love overcame them.

"Kagome, come your mate-to-be is here."

"I will not be a hanyou's mate!"

"There is no choice. Your sister is to mate with his half brother. Do not be so stubborn."

"No! I will not!"

Kagome's mother mate of the northern lord, opened the door into her daughter's room. She sighed; her daughter was not a neat and clean hime like her sister Kikyou. Her chambers were clattered with weapons, swords, sickles, even her taijiya friend's giant boomerang, Hiraikotsu.

"Kagome this agreement was made when you were still a pup. We cannot stop it now."

"Agreements can be broken."

"But not with the dead. Lord Inu No Taisho has been dead for years. There is no possible way for this to be stopped with him dead."

"Can't the new lord stop it?"

"No. His father made the agreement. His and his father's honor dictate that the agreement cannot be broken by him. Only by his father can it be changed."

"This is so annoying."

"Please Kagome just meet him. He isn't so bad."

"Fine. But don't expect me to like him."

Her mother just sighed and signaled for her daughter's servants to get her ready. When they were done Kagome was wearing a blue kimono that brought out the highlights in her hair. With a silver obi that accented the stripes on her cheeks and down her arms. Her hair was down framing her heart shaped face, making her cerulean blue eyes look as if they were glowing.

Her mother signaled for Kagome to follow her. After turning down several halls with ornate tapestries and paintings, that elegantly decorated the palace, they came to a receiving room containing her father, sister, and several other prominent figures.

She saw the hanyou first he wore red haori and hakamas, and strangely.....no shoes. He had silver hair with dog ears sticking up that twitched at every sound, and gold eyes. Next she saw a really tall inu youkai. He had silver hair that went down past his knees and almost to the floor. He had gold eyes, on his forehead was a blue creasant moon. He had two maroon stripes on each cheek and wrist. He turned his head and looked at her. After a moment he slightly tipped his head in greeting and she did the same.

The rest of the figures in the room were her father's advisors or, apparently, the western lord's.

As she stood there examining the people in the room her sister came up beside her, "What's wrong Kagome?" Kikyou asked.

"I don't want to be here," Kagome growled through her teeth, "I'm trained as a warrior not a doll to be set there and look pretty."

"Then why haven't you escaped yet? I know you usually do."

"They're watching the door, just for me." Kagome said icily pointing at the yellow and blue clad guards.

"Then phase out." Kikyou suggested, speaking of her sister's ability to go through walls.

"Can't I was practicing yesterday. I'm still too tired to phase." Kagome replied shrugging.

Unknown to them two dog ears had been coming closer listening in to their conversation, "Then I might be of some assistance," the sisters looked up to see the hanyou, "I hate these things too. If we leave together they won't think we're trying to escape."

"Works for me. Come on!" she grabbed his hand and slowly walked to the doors. Without looking at the guards she walked out, "Free at last!" she almost yelled.

"You don't seem to be the kind of demoness to want to be away from that kind of thing."

She eyed him, "Why do you say that?"

"You look like you've been to a million of them."

"No," she laughed, "I usually skip them. My mother made me go to this one."

"Why?"

"You."

"Huh?"

Never mind you'll find out later," she looked at him. Noticing his sword she asked, "Do you spar?" there was a mischievous glint in her eyes that he didn't like.

"No. I only fight when I need to," he wasn't telling the complete truth. Living in the western palace -the same place his brother lived mind you- did make sparring necessary.

"Oh well. I'll just have to look for Sango to spar with me."

After she said that they heard a slap and a yell of, "HENTAAIII!!!"

"I found her," said Kagome calmly, "by the way the monk with the handprint is Miroku. He's a real pervert but he's the palace monk." she shrugged and walked toward where the sound came from until a girl came into view towering over a cowering monk, "Hey Sango what did he do this time?"

"The usual," the taijiya looked at her then knocked the monk out cold.

"He'll never learn," Kagome sighed, "....Hey wanna go spar?"

"Sure," she looked at the monk once more than walked away to go change.

"He will never learn," said a voice from a nearby flower pot.

"I know what you mean Shippou. Come out I don't think she would get mad enough to try and hurt you." all of a sudden there was an orange ball of fluff in her arms. "This is Shippou." she told the hanyou after the kit had scrambled to her shoulder.

"I'm Inuyasha," answered the hanyou to the kit.

"Hi Inuyasha," Shippou answered.

"How about if you go find someone to play with Shippou."

"Okay momma." with that the kit ran off.

"Momma?" asked Inuyasha.

"I found him in the forest. He'd said his parents had been killed by Naraku, so I adopted him," Kagome explained.

"Poor pup."

"Yeah but at least he doesn't dwell on the past that much. I don't think it would be healthy for him to."

"Yeah that is good."

"If you would excuse me? I must get ready for my sparring mach." she bowed and Inuyasha bowed back.

"If you don't mind I would like to watch your mach," he said.

"I will have a servant escort you to the dojo," she stopped a servant and politely asked him to show Inuyasha to the dojo.

As she headed to her room she thought about the agreement and other things. When she got to her room she checked the room connected to hers. It was Shippou's room. In there were two little kids. The one with the tail was definitely Shippou, and the other kid was a little girl with an orange and white checked kimono. She had black hair that was in a ponytail off to the side of her head.

"Shippou who is your friend?"

"Hi I'm Rin!" said the girl happily.

"Hi Rin I'm Kagome."

"She's my momma!" put in Shippou.

"OH! Hi Shippou's momma Kagome-sama!" Rin said and bowed.

Kagome laughed, "No Rin it's okay you may call me Kagome."

"Thank you.......Kagome Sesshomaru-sama says it's not polite to call elders by their first name."

"It's okay when they allow you to Rin," Kagome smiled at her.

"Thank you Kagome," Rin said, smiling back

"Well I'll talk to you guys later," Kagome said, "I've got to change now."

She went into her room sliding the shoji screen shut. After changing into her leather outfit she grabbed two of her swords, and Hiraikotsu. She quickly ran to the dojo setting Hiraikotsu next to the spot Inuyasha had taken, "Thanks for letting me borrow it." she said to Sango

"No problem Kags," (A/N: ok if any of u need to be told that is sposed to be a nickname for Kagome)

They got into their battle stances waiting for the other to attack. Sango suddenly attacked and Kagome skillfully dodged.

As the fight continued on Sesshomaru excused himself from the meeting in the reception room. After making his way toward his room he checked the room connected to his..

"Jaken!" he called the green toad youkai scurrying in circles, "Where is Rin?"

"My Lord, Sesshomaru-sama, I don't know! She asked me to tell her a story and I turned around to pick up one of her toys before beginning the story! When I turned back around...she was gone!" the toad was frantic.

Sesshomaru just turned around and walked away, knowing that the toad had probably told her she was unworthy of a story from a youkai such as him. He smelled the air trying to find the way Rin had gone.

Finally finding a scent he followed it to find her playing with a kit in his room. "Rin," when he said her name she looked up and ran to attach to his leg. He mentally sighed, "Why are you not in your room?"

"Because Jaken-sama was being mean to Rin and Rin wanted to play but Jaken-sama wouldn't play," she pouted.

He shook his head and audibly sighed, "Jaken watch the children and allow them to play until it is Rin's bed time."

"Y-Y-Yes Lord Sesshomaru," stuttered the toad.

Sesshomaru wandered hoping to find an exit. Instead he found the dojo where he saw the hime and taijiya sparring. He thought that the hime- what was her name again..oh yes Kagome- was very graceful. She dove into the attacks like a butterfly diving onto a flower and avoided the taijiya's attacks like a bee finding a safe path to it's home.

To be quite plain he thought she was the most elegant fighter he had ever seen.
