The Reason by beautiful_destruction

Confessions of a Lonely Heart

"Why have you abandoned me?" Kagome screamed to the deadened air around her.

She had been screaming her lungs out since she had fallen asleep.

This place,it was not familiar and there was no one around to protect or comfort her.

It was not the forest she was so familiar with, this place was much more desolate and damnable.

The dulled grey coloring of the foliage told her this was not the right forest and where had her friends gone?

Searching, frantically running in no particular direction,Kagome spun in all directions hoping to eventually run into a familiar face and know that she was just hallucinating.

But she wasn't,it was real.

"Why won't anyone answer me?" she screamed again.

"There's no one here to answer your call little girl." a voice called out.

"Who are you?" Kagome asked.

"I am no one you know." the voice replied simply.

"Where am I,I know I'm not in the right forest."

"Of course not,you are sleeping."

"Sleeping?" Kagome questioned,feeling confused.

"That is what I said."

Shaking and exhausted,Kagome edged over towards the nearest tree and sat down at its hueless base.

"What or more specifically, who is it that you seek?"

the cryptic voice questioned.

"I was looking for my friends and Inuyasha."

"Were you really looking for Inuyasha or is that just what you tell yourself?"

"Hey,don't get smart with me,I know what I was looking for!" Kagome spat, getting frustrated with the audacity presented by the voice around her.

"What does this Inuyasha look like?"

"Well,he has long silvery~white hair,shining amber eyes,he wears a white haori,and he's stubborn."

"Oh,that doesn't sound like the hanyou I've seen rampaging through these woods, does not sound like him at all." the voice chastised, much to Kagome's chagrin.

"Ok then, you tell me who that sounded like cause I thought I had the stubborn part down pat!" Kagome yelled irritatedly.

"The stubborn part is correct, but it sounded more like you were talking about the youkai Lord that wishes to destroy the rampaging hanyou I mentioned earlier."

"Wait a minute....if you know them how come you're asking me to describe them to you?"

"Its just more entertaining to fish the information out of people that way." the voice said, chuckling lightly.

"Jerk!" Kagome huffed.

"What would you do for the one you truly love?" the voice asked, its tone turning dark and serious.

"What do you mean the one I truly love?" Kagome asked, not understanding.

"The one you truly love is not always the person in front of you,but the person who has always been away from you."

"Ok,that didn't make alot of sense."

"Do you love Inuyasha?"

Kagome sat back against the tree and thought for several moments before replying to her unseen visitor.

"I'm not sure,I used to think that I loved him more than life itself, but he always walked away from me and hurt me so I'm not really sure now if I do or not."

"Hmmm, that is unfortunate for Inuyasha then."

"Yeah,he always went back to his first love no matter how hard I tried to please him,so in the end I was nothing but a jewel detector for him."

Kagome stopped talking as a single, glistening tear traced its way from her hazel orbs.

"The sadness of a broken heart can always be healed,in time of course, nothing is instantaneous in healing."

"But the other that you spoke of,the youkai Lord, there's something about him that I can't quite put my finger on,he is just a walking puzzle."

"Indeed he is."

"His emotions are always hidden from plain view and he never shows any sign of weakness."

"Oh believe me,he has a weakness."

"So,who is it that I am really supposed to love?" Kagome asked.

"That is for you to decide for yourself,no one can do it for you,you know that."

"I don't know who I love,I've been hurt so much and I don't want to have to go through that again."

"Maybe this will help you in the future." the voice offered quietly.

A moment later another voice, deep and strong, began to ring through the forest of dreams and Kagome caught her breath as she listened to the endearing words being spoken into the hazy air around her.

"Do you not know that you are the reason I am still alive?" it began,"Without you I would perish, you've done so much just by being here and my world shines because you are in it."

Each word, each syllable resonated through the forest and the sky like a slow thunder, until the last sentence that died down to a bare whisper.

"I will love you until the day I die."

It was more than Kagome could ever fathom at that moment, her heart skipped with every word that sunk into her being.

"Was that someone talking to me?" Kaomge asked in disbelief.

"Yes,that was to you and you may not hear it for awhile yet."

"Well, how long do I have to wait before Mr.Perfect comes along?" Kagome asked in a half whine.

"You will just have to wait and be patient for that." the voice again chastised.

"You know something, you're almost as annoying as Totousai!" Kagome grumbled unhappliy.

"Why thank you,I do believe that's one of the best compliments I've ever recieved!"

Kagome could almost feel the voice smiling down at her and it made her all the more irritated.

"Dork!"

And with that she awoke back at camp, surrounded by firelight and friends in the real forest.

"Stupid voice." Kaomge mumbled to herself and the air that she knew was listening.
