Chapter 1

She saw the gash in his side. Smelt the tangy, metallic sent of his over-spilled blood.

Kagome ran-staggered over to his side, tears streaming from her eyes as she knelt beside his wounded body. She chocked out his name. She couldn't even remember the last time her mouth felt so dry. How could her eyes be so watery and her throat so dry at the same time? She leaned over her friend and companion as her body began to shake.

"Inuyasha?" She whispered through cracked and bloody lips. Whispering was all she felt she could do at the moment.

Why had it happened like this?

Why did this have to happen to her?

Inuyasha groaned, reminding her that he was still alive. For the time. Kagome leaned in to face him. She had to use her hands to turn his face towards her. When her shaking fingers brushed up against his rough, beaten-up face, she had to shut her eyes. He felt so cold! After a quick sniff, she slowly trailed her hands down to his chest.

"Are you okay?" She laughed inwardly. Was he okay? Kagome mentally slapped herself. Of course he wasn't! He was dieing!

He coughed, waking her from her thoughts. She felt something wet on her hands. She looked down to see shining red liquid resting on her pale hands. Kagome let out a horse cry and jumped away, wiping her hands rapidly on her skirt and grass.

The hanyou moaned again. She forgot about her blood-stained hands and moved back to him.

"Ka--" he paused for a second, opening up his dull amber eyes. "Kagome?" He even sounded dead. If that was possible.

"Where are... where are Miroku and San--" He stopped again.

"Sango." She filled in for him. He grinned feebly, showing her his bloody mouth and fangs.

What was she to say?

What could she do for him?

"They left." She said quietly. It was half the truth. Miroku and Sango had left. She just could not build up the strength and courage to tell him that they died. Broken and mulled by the same demons that had mortally wounded him.

Why was she still alive?!

Even Shippou died protecting her!

Now she would be all alone...

Kagome's eyes widened with disgust. Inuyasha was the one dieing, and all that she could do was think about herself and what she was going to do after she watched him die. The only person that she had ever loved with all her heart. The only person that had loved her back in the same way.

She broke down.

The tears cascaded down her dirt covered face as she sobbed openly for who was to be her partner and mate as he died.

"Please, Kagome... D--don't cry."

She turned back to him, eyes squinting and heart throbbing. She couldn't hold it back anymore. She cried out to him as she wrapped her arms tightly around his broken body the best she could. "Inuyasha!" She stayed with him a little while longer before she realized that she was pretty much crushing his already wounded self. With a gasp she let him go.

"It's okay, Kagome." He struggled. "It's way past time I've felt pain. I feel all... Numb." Again he paused. The pauses were becoming closer and closer. "I don't even feel my l--left arm and leg at all."

There was a good reason for that. Kagome thought bitterly. Both limbs were scattered along all of the other random demon parts. They most likely weren't even whole anymore.

"Oh, Inuyasha." She silently cried as she franticly wiped away at her tear-stained face. His breathing soon became long whisks of air trying greatly to fill injured lungs.

He's dieing.

He's dieing.

He's dieing.

He's dieing.

He's dieing!

"No!" She yelled, half with sadness, the other with burning rage.

"Kagome..." She stared back at his golden eyes. She could see the pain in them. The hurt, the anguish. The worst part of it though, was the fact that she could tell that it wasn't for himself. It was for her.

It was then that he chocked out his finial words... "I love you..." and he was gone.

Pain seized her as she fell onto his lifeless body. "Inuyasha!" She screeched.

"Inuyasha!"She cried his name over and over again until she couldn't even open up her mouth anymore.

A sudden wave of evil swept through Kagome as she lie on top of her dead lover.

Anger filled her.

So it was him. She thought.

She had figured as much.
