Chapter 1: One last look

The sun shone down beautifully today. Not to commemorate the horrid becoming that had happened the previous week, but instead to remind two children of the happiness they would not be experiencing for quite some time. The last living relative they had known died; their precious mother; their caring and forgiving mother. Why did she have to be taken away so soon? Her oldest child held her youngest one. She was only 16, and she had to comfort her 10 year old brother.

"Kagome?" a good looking man, about a year older than herself called out. "I'm looking for my sister... Her name is Kagome, and my brother, Shippou." He asked a man who had loved their mother. He had been dating her, it was only right that he come to her funeral. "They are right over there... but can I have a word with them before you take them? I would like to tell them you exist... She never had a chance to..." Kagome could hear their conversation, she had exceptional hearing. She could hear through walls in a room full of talking people if she concentrated well enough. She lost her train of thought, thinking back to her past for the fifteenth time that day.

"Kagome?" Shippou said from her embrace. She shook her head, bringing herself back to reality. "Yeah?" she hadn't realized that her mother's boyfriend... well ex-boyfriend now... had been telling her something. "Your mother has two other children. She never got around to telling you. Her and your father had two sons. You Shippou and Souta, the man standing over there, and twin daughters... your a twin. I thought you might want to find out from me, instead of someone you barely know. I loved your mother. And I love you children. Any time you need anything, just call. I'll be here for you. Call anytime you like... even if you don't have anything to say... we can sit in silence, just as long as you know I'm there. I'll call sometimes too. I love you guys." He gave them a burly hug. A big bear hug that made all three of them starts to cry. "I need to get out of here! Call me anytime... day, night or anytime between." They watched as he got into his broken-down blue GMC pickup.

Souta came up to them, an awkward smile placed where his mouth was supposed to be. "I knew about you guys... I knew you because I was 10 when you left... you were 6, do you remember me?" he asked, almost as if he was a child. Hope shone in his eyes. Kagome nodded. "I remember you. I remember you and my sister... I do remember you throwing water balloons at as... and when you punched the mean neighbor of ours, Naraku right in the face for hitting me and calling me a bitch. That's all." Souta smiled. "Mother and I wrote back and forth. She kept me updated on you both... She never told you about us?" Kagome just stared into space, she never asked her mother about her memories because she was afraid of what the answer might have been. "No, she never said anything." Shippou said, answering for his sister. "Let me say my goodbyes, and then we can leave." Souta walked away while Shippou and Kagome showed no sign of response toward his actions.

Kagome hadn't even realized he left and he was already back. It was nice of him to come to the funeral, even though he didn't really know her. "Why didn't Kikyou come?" she asked Souta. He ignored the question, Shippou looked confused. "She's my twin sister." Kagome answered not waiting for his question. Souta got into his car. She would usually compliment on such a fine thing it was. A Viper, Specs 2005 dodge viper! With indented doors and two white racing strips front to back contrasting with the blue glitter paint job. Kagome let Shippou in first, his bottom sliding on the crisp new blue leather. Kagome put the seat back in place, taking a seat. The squish of the leather beneath her almost made her smile, almost. She had always had a soft spot for cars. Souta started the ignition; the rhythm escaped the hood of the car. A slight smile curled her lips. "Our mother told me your passion of cars. You like her don't you... You get your own car..." He handed her a pair of keys. "Want to know what you get? This is the house key; this is your car keys." Kagome nodded her head. Souta smiled. "Just wait till you see her... what a beauty. Cars and I always have gotten along... I see they love you too."

The car ride must have been three hours long, even though it only took an hour. The silence and the anticipation were to kill, well for Kagome! She kept fiddling with the keys in her hand "Just tell me! PLEASE." She asked so nicely. "I'll tell you what isn't yours, its not a silver Porsche. That's Kikyou's baby. I think she got the well known rare car. She's so... bland when it comes to everything. She could have chosen any car... She goes for the Porsche. I got to choose your car, so I hope you don't mind my choice." Souta smiled a wicked smile. "Anytime you are willing to trade for a day, or any amount of time. I'm down, but vipers are my sweet spot so you can never keep her for to long."

They turned into a nice looking neighborhood, mansions with huge yards and infinity pools. "It's just like Beverly hills." Shippou said from the backseat. "Which one is ours?" His voice was almost getting to a squeak, every time he got excited he would squeak. They turned into another drive way, Kagome recognized the mansion as soon as she saw it. "Does Naraku still live over there?" Kagome pointed to the Mansion to the left of there's. "Yeah, I'm afraid so." Kagome frowned even deeper. "What about Sakura and the nice old couple?" Souta looked down. "The old couple that used to live in front of us died. Two boys and there father live there now. I think the younger boy is Inuyasha... I've only seen the other one once. Sakura moved shortly after you guys left. Only down the road though. She lives over there." He pointed to the house that was two houses down from 'Inuyasha's' house. "A girl your age and a boy Shippou's age live in there old house now. They moved in about a month ago... Enough chit chat, I want you to see your car."

He bounced out of the car as soon as he parked it in the garage around back. Their new...but old... mansion was rectangular but curved backward to form to the infinity pool. The Garage was behind that, and then there were woods beyond that. In front of the house were gardens on both sides of the drive way, on either side of those were just grassy flat areas. The front doors had steps leading up to them, winding around the fountain of two dolphins squirting water past each others heads. "Come on... your car is beyond Kikyou's Porsche." He turned on the garage light. Kagome was excited, only she still felt like something was missing. Someone was missing.

She got out of the car; she put the seat up so Shippou could squeeze out to see. She could see the Porsche. She had a feeling that Kikyou had changed, changed for the worse. 'I would have been out here to meet my Brothers and Sisters if I knew their, no our mother died.' Kagome thought to herself as she peered around the Porsche. Her jaw dropped, all coherent thoughts blurred. "BUGATTI VEYRON!" Souta smiled. "Yes, our mother told me that you were saving up for one. You got really close once but you then put it all toward your grandfather's heart surgery." He only lived for half a year after that, it was all worth it though. "That was selfless Kagome. You have no idea how hard it is for people to do that. You loved him and you never regretted it." Kagome cried. She loved her car, but the thought of her grandfather made her think of all the death she had recently went through. Shippou came up and grabbed her hand. "Can you show us to our rooms? Today has been... over whelming." Shippou said to Souta showing him that he was more mature than other kids his age and the he loved his sister dearly all in one sentence. "Sure... I have a surprise for you too little man. Come on I'll show you."

Souta was nice. Kagome knew he was different already. She just really needed sleep and a really, really, really long bubble bath. 'And maybe some ice cream.' She smirked. "Alright are you ready for your surprise?" Souta opened up the front door. A great hall was before them with white marble covering the floor, chandelier over head Sliding doors on each side, piano in the corner, simple yet elegant. A side table was to the right of her with a closet and a mirror. Her own reflection scared her. When was the last time she brushed her hair? Or put on any make-up. She shuttered. Kagome knew she was falling apart.

"Come on Kagome. Both of your rooms are this way. We have had all your things moved in within the past three hours. Arrange it how you'd like, Keade did a splendid job if you ask me though. You need to say hello before you go to bed." He went up the first flight of stairs to the right. "Keade is still here?!?!?!?" Kagome said with compassion and hope. Souta just nodded. "The left stair case is Kikyou's room and the hall that she uses for her party's and there is a mini kitchen up there. Then the next flight up is father's room next to the lounge where he has his friends over to play poker. There is nothing over there that any of us really want. Believe me. But on this side is my room" he opened the door. It was all dark, more on the gothic side. Which surprised Kagome that he could be so dark, yet didn't everyone hide there insides nowadays? "You're welcome anytime you like! As with the library," he opened the door more down the hallway. It was brilliant. A fireplace with rows upon rows of books labeled just like a library would be with computers in every corner, and white fluffy looking couches and chairs in a circle forming with the fireplace, a perfect place to study. "Anytime!" He said again reassuring Kagome.

Souta walked past the door next to the stairs. "I'll explain later what this door is... Follow me." He started up the stairs explaining on the way up what he and Keade did to the rooms. "Well, Shippou, we knew you liked cooking. Unusual for a little boy of your age, but I've been told nothing but good thing and would surly like to try anything you can put together. So I thought that the room I chose for you would be best. It has a kitchen in the next room over. Kagome's is smaller than yours but she has a wrap around balcony, it has a glass ceiling over the one side with a stairwell to get to the room below which is the room I walked past, the whole room has a glass ceiling." The balcony on the side has a door you walk out onto from the balcony on the inside. "I knew you liked scenery for your paintings. You can see most of the place from your balcony. You both have your own bathrooms with a tub that can be a shower if you prefer. Shippou, your room is blue. I really hope you like it; Keade was up there for a week painting away. You both have computers, desks, dressers and beds; different of course. Well, you know what. Find out for yourself! Kagome's is on the right, Shippou's on the left." Souta had gotten carried away with himself.

Kagome turned on the light; she could see everything now, the sponge painted walls black, red and purple and the swirled carpet with the same colors. The room was big and rectangular. There was a long curtain going down the opposite side of her, the curtain was black. Her room was purple and black. He favorite colors, she had a canopy bed with purple ruffles coming down from all sides. It was see through but you had to push the mesh out of the way to climb in. The bed was at the far end of the room to her right an end table was to the right of the bed; to her left was two doors probably her bathroom and her closet with her dresser in the middle of the two. In the middle of the room was a rectangular table with a lab top on the surface, her perfect room. She checked out the curtain and noticed that next to her queen sized bed was a rope that you could pull down. She walked over to it, finally leaving the spot in her doorway. She pulled the ropes and the curtain from the middle split open, light shinning through illuminating the room even farther. Once the curtain reached her she moved to look out to see what it had been hiding. It was a glass wall with a glass ceiling over the room that it over looked. She slid open the door and walked out. A door to her left and a stairwell to the right, there was a couch with a side table close to the edge of the rail. She looked down and it was a room with a ping pong table, pool table, dart game and a wide screen television in front of a couch with chairs and a table a jute box and a refrigerator that she was sure had some junk food in. The whole room looked like a hang out perfect for people of all ages. You could see the infinity pool and the trees, and below was a door leading out to the pool area. Amazing!

She went to the door on her left, the same sliding door as the one leading out to where she was now. She walked out, the breeze and sun shine making her feel a lot better. This one had patio furniture; you could see Naraku's house and the Inuyasha house or whoever Souta said and the fields, sky and tree line. It was breath taking. She looked over at Naraku's house, everything looked so dark. Silver Porsche in the driveway, her gaze then turned to the house if front of there's. Well, it was more to the right now that she saw it but it was still in front of her. Something caught the corner of her eye. Someone was out on the balcony too, and they were staring at her. She could see his deep golden eyes, even from this distance and his long silver hair nicely kept. He was tall, and he looked older than her. He walked away; maybe he noticed that she noticed he was staring. She shrugged it off.

Kagome went to Shippou's room, which were blues and greens. His room was like hers only instead of a canopy bed he had a bunk bed with a couch on the bottom and he had a television with some game system. The biggest difference was instead of a glass wall, he has a wall that has a serving window and a swinging door leading into the kitchen. The table was different too, more like a table for eating instead of painting and reading. Shippou was already in the kitchen ransacking the cupboards. "I think I'm going to say goodnight to Keade and then go to bed, today was a very long day." She then turned to Souta. "I love my room. I'll do the all together investigation tomorrow. Thanks for everything. Goodnight, I love you both." She said almost about to leave when Souta stopped her. "I'll tell Keade that you were zonked out, she'll understand. You go to bed; I'll give you the rest of the tour tomorrow. If you can't sleep, go down your balcony stairs and knock on my door. It's the same as yours, only my stairwell leads to the lower room, yours leads to my balcony." Kagome nodded. "Same goes for you little man." He said to Shippou. Shippou nodded but gave Kagome a hug; she lowered herself to his level. "I'll come to your room first Kagome. And you can come to mine." He whispered. Kagome left her brothers to get to know each other, tomorrow's task: Keade, her father, Kikyou and registry for school.
