We Still by Blood Mistress

We Still

Ok, I wrote this when I got Frankie J's song, "We Still" stuck in my head. It just seemed perfect for the troublesome couple...Read, review, and enjoy!

"Sesshomaru Taisho! Stop this!" Her cries were silenced as a loud slap rang across the room of their two-bedroom apartment. As she fell to the ground, he snarled down at her. "Woman. Get up now." Kagome looked up at him, tears streaming down her face. "W-why? So you can hit me again?" Sesshomaru's eyes softened. Her anger, her tears, the sight of her laying on the wood floor with a bruise on her cheek, and the knowledge that he had caused it was all too much for him. As she bowed her head, Kagome struggled to get to her feet. She winced as dizziness hit her, the result of the slap she had received. Just when he was about to turn from her, most likely to go into their room, she stopped him. "Sesshomaru." Turning to face her fully, he winced at how cold she sounded. She sounded just like himself. Finally raising her head, Kagome looked her husband of four months in the eye. Again, Sesshomaru found himself wincing, this time from the sheer coldness of her gaze. They stayed like that for what felt like an eternity to both. Suddenly, Kagome's voice broke the silence. "I don't deserve this. You know that, and so do I. Goodbye." Kagome walked into their bedroom and began packing a large suitcase. Sesshomaru stood at the doorway and watched as she did. Every once in a while, he'd get a glimpse of her face. Something in him hoped to see tears, just some kind of remorse for what she was about to do. Each time he looked, though, her face was blank. There were no tears, and there was no remorse. Even worse was the realization that there was no second chance for him. Sesshomaru walked into the living room and sat in his chair, staring at the wall across from him. He heard the suitcase being closed and saw Kagome walk into the room. She strode almost regally across before turning the knob and walking out of their apartment, and his life. He should go after her. She was his wife, after all. And was he just going to let the love of his life walk out of this building simply because of his pride? Yes, he knew he would.

Kagome made it to her car before she broke down. She wrapped her arms around herself and sobbed. Whether it was because he had actually hit her or because she had left, she wasn't sure. Finally she lifted her head and started the car. As Kagome turned out of the parking lot, hell-bent on making it to Sango's house, she didn't even look back. This didn't go unnoticed by the man who now occupied the window instead of his chair.

Sesshomaru went to the armoire and turned on the stereo, hoping to find something to get her off of his mind. The song he heard made him stop in his tracks.

Tears threatened to fall as Kagome drove. She had to keep blinking to stop them, and it was a losing battle. Finally, she stopped trying to blink them away and they fell. Once again, her tears streamed down her face, and she still wasn't sure why she was so upset. Looking for something to get her mind off of it all, she lifted a finger and turned on the radio.

I know that you and I

Have been through

Many downs before, oh yeah

But that don't mean

The chance has gone away

To love each other more

We've struggled

And we've fought

To keep us both

Between the lines, oh yeah

Through many years

We've cried our tears

And always kept our pride aside

Kagome's tears slowed as she pulled into a driveway. Her small car turned around and she drove slowly, listening to the truth in the song.

So you can't say that

We still...

Always argue all the time

Never make love when it's right

We still...

Never say we love each other

Always up in one another

We still...

Fight for every little thing

And never ever stop to think

That we still...

Always loved each other

As Sesshomaru listened to the song, his conscience raged. He sat back down in his chair; the one Kagome had picked out for him, ironically, and laid his head in his hands. 'What have I done?' To stop himself from crying, Sesshomaru began to sing along, the words ringing true within his own soul.

I know at times

You believed we'd never change

Oh yeah, you said we'd never change

That it was too much to overcome

Much of an obstacle to take, mmm

But you were always one

To always think the worst of things, yeah

So it was always me to take the stand

And take the initiative

Kagome's car sped up along with her heart rate, the tears having begun their flowing again. She began singing along with the radio, if only to vent her feelings a bit.

So you can't say that

We still...

Kagome's car pulled into her space, and she bolted toward the door of the building, her ebony locks flowing behind her, and her voice still whispering the words her soul longed to scream.

Always argue all the time

Never make love when it's right

And we still...

Sesshomaru kept singing as he made up his mind. He was going to go out and get her. He knew he was wrong, but they had to find a way through this. He went into the coat closet to find a jacket against the cold.

Never say we love each other

Always up in one another

We still...

Kagome skidded to a stop in front of their apartment, her breaths coming out in short pants from her ten-flight stair escapade. Her whispers of the song were barely audible now, and she lifted her hand to turn the knob.

Fight for every little thing

Never ever stop to think

That we still...

Sesshomaru opened the door to find his wife, eyes wide and tears still running down her cheeks. Somehow, they both whispered the words their souls had needed to hear most.

"We always loved each other."
