Day of Spirits by Lil Sakura Drops

Spirits

Chapter 1 : Spirits

In a field showered with a multitude of rainbow-colored flowers, sat a woman who stared at the crystal blue sky before her with her light blue eyes. Her long, silky, black hair happily waved in the breeze. Her magenta kimono, decorated with pink cherry blossoms fit her femininely curved body snugly. The women's name was Ashira. She seemed to glow with the presence of excitement as a serene smile graced her lovely face.

Although this world seemed real, it wasn't. It was the world of the spirits. To be exact she was put in the second gate. The spirit world was divided between five gates. The gods had decide which gate you were put in once you died. If you were put into gate one, the amount of sins you had committed during your lifetime were a minimum. So in obvious reason, if you were put into gate five you had committed a large amount of sins while you were alive.

Each gate had a different landscape. For example, Gate One was a glorious place. Where one could relax. Gate one had many rivers, a clear sky, flowers and luscious large trees, green lush grass, hot steamy springs and tall beautiful mountains. In short it was a beautiful place. Then the next gate would be a little harsher than the last. The harshest was Gate Five. It was a dark and barren place, almost like a desert. There were cracked dirt on the ground, it mocked you every time you took a step, making a dry crunching sound. No moon, no sun, it never rained and it was always cold and the ground was always dusted with fog.

Many souls of roamed about in their gate their gate, either exploring or hopelessly floating/walking about for no apparent reason. Ashira waited for tomorrow to come, the sun had set in the spirit world now. Although the spirit world didn't have a true time system, they used terms from when they were alive. In all the Gates, but Gate Five, there was morning and night, just like earth. Ashira couldn't wait until dawn came.

The man that she loved died with her on the same day when they were trapped in her palace. The soldiers burned it down with her lover, her father and she herself, giving the opposing side victory. She died at the time of war. She could still feel the fire burning her none real skin and she shivered, a tear gently ran down her cheek as she remembered embracing her lover before she had died, but now, as much time went by she tried not to let it bother her too much, but when her lover was put into Gate three, and her, in Gate two she had fallen into depression her soul sinking into sadness slowly, but she was soon brought hope as the Gods gave a speech to all the souls that would listen.

***Flashback***

Spirits saw the gate open and a bright light appeared. A God-like figure could be seen, but only its outline, no real features were revealed and the God spoke to the spirits, the God's creamy, soft but strong and clear voice rang out grabbing everyone's attention. It seemed to look at each of the souls peering at his God-like person.

"It is almost time to celebrate the Day of the Spirits." he paused and regarded the souls carefully.

"At this time, you are allowed to go to earth and possess a body for one day, after that one day, I will bring each and every one of you back to your gate. The souls had hopeful looks on their faces.

"But, there are certain rules and exceptions you will have to be informed before I let you go." The ears of the souls were listening carefully now.

"All souls from Gate Three and One are allowed to pass. Souls in Gate Four and Five are not." The Goddess heard audible gasps from the souls.

"That was the exception, now to the rules." The souls listened with hopeful ears and baited breath. "You will not harm, kill, or torture a human in any way, do not force them to steal and do not create trouble that may have the potential to start a war. If these rules are broken I will not allow you to pass onto earth ever again."

She watched the souls, carefully making sure that they understood. "The day you will be allowed to pass will be tomorrow morning. Be prepared." With that being said, she left.

***End Flashback***

Ashira felt so excited that she would be able to see her lover once more.

"I'll see you very soon Haru" she whispered to herself, the unreal breeze carried her words away.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*|Gate 3|*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

A man, blessed with a handsome face and strong physique sat on a boulder looking at the stars. It would soon be time to pass onto earth. He seemed lonely there. His navy blue hoari and hakama shining in the moonlight. His hair kept short and his eyes were a chocolate brown. This man's name was Haru.

He had been informed of the day where he would be allowed to pass onto earth and possess a body for one day. He was overjoyed to hear that, and that meant he would see his beloved Ashira again.

Haru saw a soul pass by minding its own business. The gates were really never over crowded, that was because the gated realms were infinite, they never ended at all. Spaces in the gates were limitless. So usually a soul would stay on it's own in their area of their choosing. He had been so lonely ever since he had died. He was put into a different gate from Ashira and it meant that he could not see her, it was one of the punishments the Gods had enforced from the beginning of time.

After waiting on the bolder for what seemed like an eternity, Haru saw the sun rise from the peek of hills that surrounded the landscape and it quickly colored the sky brightly again. Suddenly a large, no, enormous portal appeared in the sky, rivaling the sun. It was time now. He watched the souls turn to ball-like forms, striding and rushing to the portal in a speed that had rivaled light itself. He smiled and eagerly transformed as well, striding to the portal like the many other souls. He would now be able to see his Ashira again. He felt a powerful force quickly taking him along a bright tunnel and soon his vision was white as he descended to earth.

The Day of the Spirits has finally begun.
