Prologue

For a vampire, pleasure is pain. The greatest aphrodisiac in the world is the painful cries of our victims as we feed on them, slowly sucking them of their life-giving blood. I say this to you not to thrust you away from us but to inform you that my kind have been romanticized over the years into beings that...we in fact are not. Realize now, that we do not know love or pain. We know only of hunger and suffering. True, some of the stronger vampires have been able to feel a sort of...affection you could say towards other coven members or slaves but that is all. We all are forced to remember that to live forever is to live in hell within our world...and yet, we do not begrudge our fate. We go on. Feeding on the unwary, taking blood like water, and satisfying the desires we feel upon each other.

And I....I am partly at fault for this.

Vampires are not immortal, like many people think. We can be killed. And not from stupid, trivial things like holy water or wooden stakes, but by biting one another and draining the life force there. You see, we vampires have no blood, only a red mucus-like substance similar to it. Just as we have no children because we are dead. We need blood to run our bodies except for the select few who have objects that give them their power. But those are the masters. The ones who have lived from the beginning of our species. They are three others and myself. But also...we can be killed by love. Not the stupid, over dramatasized version of it, but by the true raw emotion, if it can be contained. Contained by spells, by holy powers, by nature.

It is the one thing we cannot fight. That is why we are alone and stay that way, taking another member into our coven solely for the sake of numbers. There are no emotions between us except despair. A sick happiness that we are forced to live off of.

We live in days of dark lonely agony. We care nothing for sunshine and joy. We love the scent of the kill. The thrill of the hunt. The screams of the dying. We kill to survive...and survive only to kill. And it suits us. It suits me. My body, my spirit, my purposes. So do not read this and expect a story of happy serenity. Read this for the inner beast within you. The one that is like what I have just described. The one who secretly wants only darkness.

Enter if you dare...into our hell.

Chapter 1: Bleeding and Broken

His heart was pounding...and the sound was music to her ears.

She closed her eyes...her bloody red pupils hidden behind pale white skin and dark lashes. She did not need them to see her victim. And so she followed after him, her senses scanning out around her into a kind of heat-seeking radar much like that of a snake. Yes...she would let him think that he had escaped her...for now.

"Huff, huff, huff..." His breath came out in great raspy wheezes as he ducked low hanging branches and thorny plants. His peasant garb seemed to scream as it caught on one of the branches he had been trying to avoid and ripped.

He bit his tongue to stop himself from crying out and choked on the blood because he knew what was after him. And he was aware of why. It was his fault that he had allowed himself to get caught up in this kind of situation...he had known of the vampire who desired the valuable information he kept within him. But he couldn't let her have it! He wouldn't. Even if she did kill him! With that in mind he swerved to the left, cutting across a shallow stream and bursting into another thicket hoping beyond hope that he might lose her.

Silent as death, her body disappeared into the shadows of the forest, her red eyes glowing through the utter darkness. Her black cape swirled behind her, her tight leather pants shinning against the waxing quarter moon's light. Black raven hair like that of a ravens wing gleamed unnaturally as it flowed out, mixing with the soft velvet of her cape. A crimson corset with black whalebone trimming captured her trim body and perky breasts into sheer perfection and had she been human she would not have been able to breath it was pulled so tightly.

But she didn't need oxygen.

She caught the scent of his blood and her eyes flashed, one corner of her mouth tipping up to expose one stark white fang. She sniffed slightly, the same sharp fang curving over her bottom lip in an almost sensual gesture. She would have sighed if she had had any breath to do so with. Her eyes narrowed at this and her smile turned to a rigid scowl.

She did not like to be reminded of what she was even though it was a supreme power to have been gifted with.

'Gifted? A curse like this is no gift, even if it is eternal life. I live in darkness and hell all wrapped up within my mind. I am just like them all. And yet I refuse. I will be my own master...one day.' Her dark eyes hardened even more.

'My mind is weak.'

And suddenly she no longer felt like the chase. It was time to end this.

She darted forwards, her soundless body gliding swiftly around in a wide circle until she appeared a few feet before him. He gave out a small yelp of surprise upon seeing her sudden appearance and almost fell backwards in his haste to change directions. She eyed his clumsiness without interest and sniffed distastefully, her small nose crinkling, red lips pursing into a thin blood red line. She cut him off the way she'd seen men cut a calf off from their mother and watched as this time, he did fall back, his legs and arms flailing wildly in panic.

"Come now Yasumi...you knew you could not run for long."

He was a short, bald little man who lived in the nearby village twenty or so miles off. His poorly stitched cotton clothes were torn and bloodied in several areas making her nostrils expand slightly in hunger. He stank of fear and piss, almost making her gag in revulsion...and yet satisfaction at the same time. Satisfaction because that fear was for her - the fear of a victim before it's killer.

"Wait! No, don't kill me!" He wheezed, his hand clutching at where his heart lay beneath his fragile skin.

Her lips curled up in obvious distaste at his pleas, her body becoming taunt as she readied herself to rip his throat open. The man's eyes widened knowingly and wiggled backwards, palms scrabbling at moss and dirt.

"I...I know you! Your name! Where it is ye came from!" He gasped, one hand going palm out in a helpless gesture to protect himself. Her eyes narrowed dangerously at him and from out of the darkness, he saw them flash from red to yellow to red again. He gulped, his confidence holding on by a thread and even then, the only thing that kept him from running was that he knew she really would rip him apart.

"You know nothing of me, little man. Least of all my past. I will kill you now." She said coldly, her nails flashing in the thin moonlight.

"NO! I...I can prove it to ye!" He stuttered; spit flying from his mouth in his desperation. She frowned in disgust and taking advantage of her distraction, he quickly spoke.

"Ye - ye lost your soul not to a vampire, but to Emma-O, god of hell! I know that ye were the first of yer kind and spawned an entire race which ye be the queen of!"

Her body stilled if possible even more, her frame like a statue made from the finest marble. The only thing that gave her away was her eyes which let loose a spark of surprise.

"Perhaps, though you are wrong in your assumptions that I created the rest of my kind. I have no slaves. What else do you think you know about me little man?" She asked, her body becoming relaxed - though perhaps wary at the same time. Her irritation had dissipated into an easy feeling of cat and mouse. And she was the former.

"Yer K--K-Kagome! Y-ye were thrown away by heaven...and taken in by Emma-O and his wife...and now SHE is yer master and jailer." He whispered softly.

His words brought a silence that seemed to make the whole world stop spinning on its axis and just sit...floating idly where it had left off.

'How does he know?' She thought, power sparking around her form, her long black hair lifting up to drift around her as her body began to gravitate upwards slightly.

"Your information is authentic enough but concerning that other little thing about me, I will not allow you to tell them of it Yasumi. You have been very stupid to risk your life for such a tiny trinket."

"My family would've starved if I'd refused! Ye cannot know what it is ter-"

"I will not allow you to tell them what I possess." She said coldly, interrupting him with a flash of red. Her body hovered for one mere second and then - she disappeared.

And not even a second later, there was a scream...and all was silent once again.

She felt it...the electric spark of his life being taken...the blood being sucked away from his veins. She felt his heart contract, and her claws slammed themselves through his chest to grasp the small organ and rip it clean from his being.

She smiled as she leaned back to watch the man stare at her in horrified confusion, blood trickling in a thin pool from his mouth. Bending forward, she licked it away.

"No one will conquer me because there is no way. That necklace is useless!" And with that she ripped his head clean from his body, her sharp fingernails seriating the sweaty edges of skin, and easily slicing through muscle and fat.

"Let me take you back to your family little man. And that fool of a master who dreams of putting me into servitude."

A wide grin split her features at her words and turning, her hand still clutching the severed head, she disappeared into the night, her eerie laughs bounding cleanly through the mist.
