Chapter: I'll Be There For You

~ Just a lil something something. This short little fic, Hear Me Cry, is based on the song, Hear Me Cry, by Utada Hikaru. When I write, I listen to music, and while I was writing the next chapter to... ummm... one of my other stories, this one came up and I thought it would be a good fic. Short, simple, cute, kinda depressing, but if you were married to a stotic icy demon lord, who wouldn't be. This fic is about Kagome still loving Sesshoumaru even though he is cold. Hope you like it... sry, no lemons or hentai things, this is a first for me... again, hope you like it...~

Forlorn brown eyes gazed out of a bedroom window. A small breeze blew in, long blackish-blue hair danced in front of Kagome's view and she pushed the stray strands behind her ear. A sigh passed through her pink lips as she stood, her eyes breaking away from the tranquility of the beautiful nature just outside of her bedroom.

Moving towards the massive mirror that stood on her dresser, Kagome started to examine the changes in herself. Looking at her reflection, Kagome started to feel numb. This wasn't her, this wasn't who she was, not for real anyway. But that didn't matter, she couldn't change it, she made the decision. She was here... for him. A tear escaped her left eye and trailed down her porcelain face. A doll... that is what she was. It was what she looked like, and how she was, for the most part, treated. A doll.

Sometimes, she was a precious and rare china doll, those times she treasured, other times... she was a rag doll. Forgotten and used, till it was time to show her again came, then she was all fixed up, dressed up, made up... faked up. It was not who she was, but she would do it... for him.

Him, the man she was here for, the man she treasured, the man she loved. Him, the man who seemed to care about her only part of the time. When people weren't around, he seemed to actually care, but in public, he treated her like a possession, nothing more, nothing less. Just a... thing, not a person.

You couldn't say,

"Needed someone new"

You actually thought

Deep inside I knew>

Kagome raised her hand to her heart, it hurt. She thought back to the time when she first confronted him. How he couldn't say it, not even the littlest thing. All she wanted was for him to say that he needed her. But not even that, and still, she is here. 'Love? Is that what keeps me here?' Kagome thinks as she looks coolly at her reflection.

'Even that night, after the argument, he didn't say the words, just that he thought I already knew. Know what exactly?' Kagome let a small, almost inaudible laugh escape her. The morning after still makes her question her decision even more, 'Am I a pet to him?' She thought. That was the exact same question she asked herself after what happened the morning after their first argument. "Am I a pet?" She spoke out. Then, she for surly thought so. Now, did she still? Kagome again thought back to their first confrontation...

Waking up as she normally did, Kagome stretched. Yawning, she stood up and got dressed. It was just then she noticed that her love was no where to be seen. Moving out into the hallway, down the many corridors until she came to a halt at the library. That is where she saw him.

Can you tell me how can you say,

"Why, this should suffice"

You passed me by

And your heart's as cold as ice

(You passed me by)>

Moving towards him, she stopped right before his desk. Looking at him, she watched as he stood and made his way toward her. Pausing right before her, she let out an 'eep' as he hugged her. It wasn't a long hug, nor passionate...just a small, tender hug. He let her go and was now gazing intensely into her confused eyes.

"What was that for?" She asked.

"That should suffice." He spoke out coldly.

She gave a shocked look, "Suffice? Suffice for what? You not being able to tell me that you need me, want me to stay. A hug? You think a hug can suffice for that?" Kagome questioned, completely overwhelmed by the feeling of her heart breaking.

Did you see me cry

(Did you ask yourself why)

Did you see me cry

(Did you ask yourself how)

Can you hear me cry

(Did you ask yourself)

Will we ever grow apart>

He didn't say anything, nothing at all. He just brushed past her and sat back down. Kagome held herself, she felt cold, the tears streaming down her face. She started to cry harder when she noticed the emotionless eyes gazing at her. Not being able to take the horrible feelings of depression and sadness when she looked at him, Kagome fled the room, escaping to her chambers where she cried to herself. All the while, she could have sworn she still felt his eyes on her, but brushed it off. It was impossible. He didn't care for her the way she thought he did. A strangled cry broke out that echoed through the castle walls. Kagome cried herself to sleep that night, as well as many nights after. 'Why can't he say it? What am I to him? Am I just a pet to him?' ...

Breaking her gaze on the mirror, Kagome returned to her spot beside the window. Looking out of it, into the wondrous gifts that only Mother Nature could give, always put Kagome into a relaxed state of mind.

You couldn't say,

"Needed someone new"

And you actually thought

Deep inside I knew>

Even now, she still never heard him say the words she wanted to hear. Did, after all this time, he still believe that deep inside she knew? But she didn't. She really wanted to hear those words, and could tell that he meant them. Could she live without hearing them? If she couldn't, would she leave? Could she live without him? Kagome thought she could, but had her doubts.

She recalled earlier, after that same damn first confrontation, she tried to leave. She was a wreak. She packed only her essentials and tried to sneak out one of the servant exits. He caught her of course, before she even made it off the castle grounds. It made him mad, furious to be exact. He carried her, slung over his shoulder to his chambers where he threw her onto his bed... things after that were just a blur really.

Looking up into the darkening sky, Kagome thought about if she really would have gotten away, where would she have gone. The Shikon was finished, and gone. He made sure of that. She had no chance of returning home. So, what would she have done? Most likely went to Kaede's. But that would probably been the first place he would have checked, and she wouldn't put Kaede's village in danger now would she? So what would she have done? What will she do if she left? She sighed, no answer came.

I wonder where we will go

Will we be the same

(You passed me by)

I laugh inside I think of you

And the love we made

(You passed me by)>

Noticing that the sun had fully set, Kagome stood from her spot. Silently walking out of her room, she made her way to the place she was suppose to be. Smiling into the fire lit hallways, Kagome thought about her future, their future. She recalled the changes she had just recently gone through, the many differences she had since when she first came here. And, even so little, the changes in him. 'He is different, and in a good way.' Kagome sighed as she reached his door and knocked once. 'Will we be the same...'

Kagome laughed inwardly as she thought about the first time she met him, then to the first time they talked in a semi-friendly way, then to her first kiss, then finally to the first time they, well, -Ahem-. 'He has changed, but is it enough?'

"Enter." She heard his steely voice command. Walking in the darkness of the room, Kagome shut the door, unrobed, and got into bed. Scooting closer to him Kagome wrapped her arms around his warm torso.

Tell me why this should suffice

I hold you through the night

Now will I let it go

Soon I'll let it go>

She gave him a tight squeeze, the sort of hug he gave her that day. 'Tell me why this should suffice?' Kagome questioned him in her mind. Knowing that even if she said it out loud, she wouldn't get an answer. Thinking about it some more, she thought about letting the whole thing go. Could she? Could she go on loving a man that still has yet to say that he loved her, wanted her to stay, needed her? 'Yeah...' She thought, 'Soon I'll let it go.'

Can you hear me cry

(Will you ask yourself why)

Can you hear me cry

(Will you ask yourself how)

Can you hear me cry

(Will you ask yourself)

Will we ever grow apart>

She didn't cry that night, outward anyway. But her love could tell what she felt on the inside of her as she slept. He tightened his hold on her as she slept, mumbling things that normally wouldn't make sense, but he knew what she said.

You, I'll stand by your side

I'll be there for you

(You passed me by)

You, I'll stand by your side

Please just do me right

(You passed me by)>

'I'll stand by your side, I'll be there for you. Please just do me right' Is what he could make out in her dream talking. Hearing what she said, Sesshoumaru's customarily cold eyes weren't cold anymore. Bringing his love closer to his body, he let out a small purring sound.

He would keep her forever as his, and she had just sworn she would do the same. She was an enigma really, he didn't know what to give her to make her happy, he thought she had everything she needed, but she begged for something more, something he really didn't know how to give. He tried once, but she got even more mad and depressed at the same time. Maybe with time, she would teach him what to do. But right now, it was a time for resting. Tomorrow was a new day, and with the new day, came new obstacles. And knowing his mate, more complications would decide to pop up due to her. Closing his eyes, letting unconsciousness claim him, Sesshoumaru said the words that Kagome so desperately wanted to hear. Cradling her petite form, "Love," Sesshoumaru mumbled.

You, I'll stand by your side

I'll be there for you >

~~ Ok, Ok, I know the ending was lame but I got tired. Hope you liked it, the only fic I wrote without lemony content... Sigh... back to the rest of my fics, yay! Oh, btw, people who were waiting for the next chapter for ummm... "Till Next Time"... it has been postponed... I'll most likely get it up tomorrow... hehe...

L8r,
