Chapter one: Assigned to Protect

The young youkai miko sat in front of her father and mother, wondering why they have summoned her. She began to get really nervous because they were just staring at her. Their eyes bore into hers and she started to fidget.

"Mother and father, may ask I why you summoned me." She had to break the silence or else she would have died from anxiety.

"Is it true that you left the castle grounds?" her father asked. He looked less than happy.

"Yes father" 'Damn, he found out.' The young youkai miko thought, fidgeting more.

"Is it also true that you were attacked?" Oh he just had to find out about that too, curse her luck.

"Y-yes" her eyes were now averted, the invisible air around the room became more interesting.

"Kagome how many times have I told you that you are forbidden to leave the castle grounds?" her father lectured, again; for the umpteenth time these past months.

"A lot, but father I can't help it. I hate being confined to a place. I need to be free to wonder." Tears shined in her eyes as she got the courage to look at him, trying to prove her point. He sat at his study desk with his mate by his side; she felt bad for her daughter.

"That is still not acceptable! You know that there are others who wish you dead."

"I know." She said in a quite voice. "But keeping me inside all the time will kill me also."

The Western Lord sighed. "Maybe we can come to an agreement."

Kagome sat in silence, waiting for his answer.

"What about a protector?" the Lady of the West suggested.

The Lord gave her a long look then smiled. "That is a great idea, my love."

Kagome was gaping in shock. A bodyguard, no she didn't want a bodyguard. Quick, she must find a way to change her parents' minds. "But you can't trust some strange person to be my protector. What if they try to kill me?"

"That's why we shall be cautious in our choosing."

"What about the Inu-clan? They are said to be the best mercenaries around." Her mother was liking this idea to much.

"Mercenaries!" Kagome shriek was heard throughout the castle. "They are practically killers...oh wait they are killers

. You would put my life in there hands?!"

"They are said to be the best and most true to there word." He father looked thoughtful before adding. "Your sister will get a protector as well, seeing how she is the guardian."

"I don't want a protect-"

"End of discussion. Messengers will be sent out with letters today." He father interrupted.

"That was hardly an agreement!" Kagome's anger was getting the better of her.

"You will not argue with me on matters concerning your safety. Letters will be sent out to the Inu-clan today, and that's the end of it." With that her father firmly dismissed her.

Kagome rose from her mat and stomped out of her father's study. How dare he! Entrust her life to killers, cold-blooded killers! Grrr. Kagome went to the gardens to enjoy her last day of freedom. Her violet eyes shined angrily at the thought of a bodyguard. Kagome saw her sister, Kikyo, practicing archery; with an audience. Kikyo was better then Kagome in every way; beauty, archery, swords, dancing, staves, daggers, singing, etc. To everyone else, Kagome was but a shadow of the great Kikyo. To add insult to injury, Kagome was the eldest. Kagome remembered a time when someone had said that she wasn't good enough to be Kikyo's shadow. Kagome remembered how much that had hurt, because she also believed the same thing; she was not good enough, Hell. Sometimes she wondered why she was the Princess of the Western Lands. Due to Kikyo's great miko abilities, everyone was positive that Kikyo was the bearer of the sacred jewel, the Shikon no Tama. But Kagome knew better. Even though Kikyo was better, Kagome still loved her; even when Kikyo flaunted her superiority.

Suddenly not wanting to be around her sister, while she is doing something better that her, Kagome left in favor of her room

The messenger was running everywhere, trying to find the famed Inu-clan, but with no luck. It had been about half a day and he had already searched the western lands. Even his own inu senses were having no luck picking anything up, not even the slightest scent; it was maddening really.

With night approaching, Irameshi, decided to find a place to camp for the night. Walking at a brisk pace, he looked for a place that offered shelter from other demons and the weather. As he searched he also made sure to stay alert of the area around him. Finally, he found a suitable tree; its branches and trunk were thick, as well as the foliage, and it had a good vantage point. With one leap he was in the tree, with his back against the trunk. Irameshi crossed his arms over his chest and fell into a light sleep; but he was still very aware of the surrounding area.

The night was still for the most part. Occasionally the wind would blow, causing the grass and trees braches to move along with it; thus creating a nice comforting sound. Clouds licked the sky in various places, but most of the deep blue-black sky and stars were visible. The moon was one night away from being at its zenith.

Far in the distance, wolves could be heard howling in the distance. Their song was one of sorrow and despair; as if they knew that a great catastrophe was soon to occur.

Morning came long after the messenger awoke. He was already on the move again; having eaten breakfast and plentiful sleep, his energy was up and he was using every ounce of it. Irameshi was now going to check all the borders to the western lands; and if need be, beyond that. He held the strap of the bag that carried within it the letter; the letter that he was going to deliver. He took great pride in his job, and when he was assigned to deliver a messenger, nothing got in his way. Irameshi was known for his ability to find the person he needed to; except right now his senses were failing him.

It was midday now, and a scent of the wind caught his attention. This scent spoke raw power and high intelligence. Lethal was a good name to describe the owner of this scent. 'No, owners.' There was more than one of them. They were still a good distance ahead of him, in a northern direction; at his speed, maybe about half a day away. With high hopes, Irameshi headed in that direction.

Again it was approaching night and the night was cooler than when he had last slept; because he was up north. To add to his frustration, Irameshi had yet to find the famed Inu-clan. Somehow they had managed to lose him during the last half of the day. Sighing, he folded his arms in his sleeves for warmth, from the cool air. Tired feet seemed to wonder northward, yet with no particular destination in mind. The sound of a river, off to his right, seemed to come out of nowhere as he exited the trees and stepped onto a sandy riverbank. Deciding that it was better to stay hidden, Irameshi headed back to the trees. Several feet into the forest and he saw a possible resting place. As he stepped through two trees, to get to the much welcomed resting area, Irameshi at the last moment saw three shining arches slash through the air before he felt cold metal press against his throat.

Kagome was completely bored. For two days now she had been pent up in her room, with guards outside her door; they were told to follow the princess at all time by the lord, the only time they left was when she took a bath and when she relieved herself. The princess sat at her window and looked at the garden below and at the lake in the distance; the lake that she named Moon's Mirror. Kagome had named it this because of nights of the full moon; the lake would glow brightly with silver light. She also learned that when this happened, a white wolf appears; a wolf that is the same height as her when it is on four legs. The wolf's eyes are unique and puzzling because the white wolf does not have pupils or irises, its eyes are two mini moons. Its coat is a pure white with an almost invisible white mist that consumes the wolf like it is on fire.

When Kagome had told her mother about this, her mother had laughed and said that it was a dream. Sighing, Kagome had decided to let it be and tell no one else.

It was still about two weeks till the next whole moon, till then Kagome would try to figure out why the white ookami appeared.

A knock on her door brought her back from her thoughts. Instantly recognizing the scent, Kagome let Sango know that she could come in.

"How are you feeling Kagome-sama? Sango asked.

"How many times do I have to tell you to just call me Kagome? Here it is easy, say it with me, Ka-Go-Me. Shall we try again?" Kagome couldn't hold it in anymore, so she laughed. Sango always had a way of cheering her up.

"Alright, Ka-Go-Me. So how is the search going?" Sango teased.

"No word has come back from the messenger yet. And I hope it never does!"

"Don't say that! I happen to know Irameshi and he is a really sweet guy. I would be a shame to loose him."

"I guess your right," Kagome then corrected her earlier statement. "I hope that Irameshi never finds those murderers."

"But Kagome" Sango pressed "your life could be in danger"

"Sango, just because I was attack a few times, that does not mean that my life is in immediate danger."

"You forget that you are the heir to the western lands. Keep in mind that demons and even humans are going to want such a title; that will be theirs if they have you."

"And what about Kikyo, huh? She can do so much more than I can. If I die, or am kidnapped, there is my sister who can not only replace me but do a better job than I could ever hope too. Don't you get what I'm saying...no one would care if I was gone, it wouldn't matter if I were dead." Kagome finished in a whisper with tears ready to fall.

"Kagome, that's not true and you know it." Sango said with tremendous conviction.

Kagome laughed bitterly. "I guess time will tell." With that princess silently dismissed her best friend.

The youkai miko sighed as she went to sit on her bed, but before she made it, the left side of her body suddenly screamed in pain; it brought the demoness to her knees. The pain started to throb more painfully just above her left hip. Clenching her teeth, Kagome waited it out. Five minutes passed before Kagome was able to stand and fall on her bed. The pain vanished. Kagome wiped her brow, which had become damp with sweat. She really hated when these short-lived episodes happened. What's worse, is that she knew why they happened. Some one was looking for her.

Kikyo grinned when she heard cheers directed towards her. She basked in the love and admiration of her beloved fans. How she loved to impress and entertain those around her. Sometimes she wondered why fate had not made her the eldest and heir to the western lands. Everybody said that she was better than her plain sister in every way. Kami, she was the bearer of the sacred jewel and still she could not rule the west; because even if Kagome dies, Kikyo could not rule in her sister's place unless Kagome willed it to be so. Then again, Kikyo hated stuff like that. Sure it would be nice to be the Lady of the Western Lands but she would hate to have to carry the responsibility that goes along with that title. Come to think of it, she hated some of the things she had to do as a princess. Yeah, scratch that idea of being the Lady of the West. She'd rather be impressing people than ruling them. Smiling, Kikyo placed her hand over her heart as it glow pink, from the jewel's power.

Tired from all the excitement, Kikyo headed to the springs for a long luxurious soak. While walking there, Kikyo smirked at the thought of her sister having to have guards follow her, when she was free. The younger sister actually laughed when she saw the guards standing outside of Kagome's room. With her mood brightened up, Kikyo resumed her walk to the springs.

It was late afternoon when four figures approached the western castle's gates. One of the four bore the mark of west on the back of his right hand. The other three walked with arrogant strides. As they met the gate, Sango saw the messenger and knew exactly who the other three were. 'Kagome is not going to be happy.' That was the thought that crossed the captain's mind as she ordered the gate open and let them in. Irameshi then went to his room and got some much needed rest, leaving the captain with the clan.

"If you would follow me to the lord's study, where he can explain his reason for summoning." Sango stated.

"That would be most appreciated." The oldest looking one stated.

With that said, Sango led the trio through the winding halls and stairs of the castle. To tell the truth, Sango was a bit apprehensive about having the famed Inu-clan behind her. She did not trust them and by the way they looked and walked, she had good reason not too. They did look like murderers, actually, more like aristocratic assassins. Yes that was a good description. For they had fierce looking weapons and armor, except for the one dressed in a red haori and hakamas; he looked less dangerous than the other two.

The leader of the Inu-clan studied the halls that he was walking through. These were obviously wealth people and probably more sophisticated than the others lords; for the other castles couldn't compare with the one he walked through right now. He glanced at the two beings behind him. The youngest of them looked awed while the second oldest looked indifferent, as usual. He glared at the two, giving them a silent warning to behave.

At last they reached two cherry wood doors that had a waning moon engraved, and plated with silver, on both doors. Sango knocked on the door and waited for a response.

"Who is it?" Asked a strong but kind male voice from behind the door.

"It is Sango, captain of the guard sir. The Inu-clan is here."

"Let them in."

"Right away." With that, the captain opened the door and stepped aside to let them in. Once all three had stepped inside, Sango closed the door and went back outside to resume her position.

"First and foremost, I would like to thank you for answering my summon" the western lord started "second, I assume you would like to know the reason behind my summoning?"

"We would be most grateful." Stated the clan's leader.

"This is about my two daughters, Kagome and Kikyo; I would ask you to be there protectors."

"My sons would fair better protecting the princesses. I would be of most help with a different position."

"It is well known that your specialty is with strategy, I'm I correct?"

"Most certainly."

"Mmm, how about I make you general of my armies? Would that position suit you?"

"It would be an honor, my lord, but I fear that I am not acquainted with you well enough to dedicate myself to your armies. Perhaps if I had more time to get to know you, I would be more willing." The great Inu-clan leader suggested.

"As you wish. But I would like your sons to be the soul protectors of my daughters."

"What can we expect in return?" The one with the left shoulder armor inquired.

"You can expect handsome pay, luxurious rooms, freedom to roam my lands with my daughters in your sight of course. Anything you want will be given. All you have to do is protect the girls."

"Is that reasonable enough my sons?" Inu no Taisho asked.

"Yes, hn." Came their reply in unison.

"Fantastic!" Then the western lord shouted "Bring forth my daughters!"

A few minutes of silence passed by before a timid knock was heard on the door.

"Enter." The lord replied.

Slowly the door slid open to reveal two stunning women. One carried herself in silent anger while the other screamed arrogance. The two princesses sauntered in and stood by their father; Kagome was on the right while Kikyo was on the left.

"You summoned father?" Kagome asked sweetly.

"Yes." He said. "Your protector has been hired."

Kagome fumed in silence, while her sister ogled the trio. Kagome's gazed passed over the murderers whom had been entrusted with her life. 'Killers.' Was one of the many thoughts passing through her head. Kagome's sight rested on one of the mercenaries.

He had long blue-white hair that pooled around him as he sat, his eyes were a molten gold with red licking from corner to corner of his eyes, two magenta stripes adorned each pale cheek, and two more stripes decorated his wrists. He had shoulder armor over the left arm only and a white boa wrapped around his right. His kimono was pristine white silk with red hexagonal flower patterns at the left shoulder and bottoms of his sleeves. Despite his flawless features, he carried an air of lethal about him. His facial expressions gave nothing away. His eyes, though bright, were cold, deadly, and uncaring. Kagome also noted the two weapons at his side; one sword had an heavenly aura while the other was pure evil. Both were demon made and controlled.

"Sesshoumaru, you will be the protector of my eldest, Kagome." She heard her father say. "And Inuyasha, you will be Kikyo's."

"What rules will we be bound by?" The one known as Sesshoumaru asked.

"The rules are as follows: no one but you touches the princesses unless otherwise authorized by them. You shall not threaten, harm, or leave their sides at anytime. Last but not least, they are not to leave the western lands or travel them for that matter if the are not accompanied by you." The lord explained.

"I would like to know the name of the Lord I will be working for?" Inu no Taisho remarked respectfully.

"Forgive me. My name is Higurashi Katsu."

"Then a deal is made." With that, the Inu-clan gave their oath.

Hello all my readers. I hope that my new story catches your interests. Please R&R. If I do not get a minimum of five reviews, I will delete the story. Ok. Please don't make me do that. Anyway, I'm not sure that I will make this NC-17 but I will try to make it, shall we say, enticing. I will probably change my mind because all these steamy, delicious, hot, erotic thoughts that run through my head need to go somewhere other than pooling between my legs. Hey! Don't give me those looks and don't deny you think of it too. That's why you all are begging me to make this dirty. Muhahahahaha! (blushes at what I just wrote) Well, I'm going to bed now. (not that way!) Man you people are perverted, but so am I. (smiles wickedly) I will try and update a.s.a.p.

Yours truly,
