Italics- song lyrics

A/N: I'm sitting here eating a croissant listing to phantom of the opera, all I ask of you. This is nothing new because I've been so addicted to it. But I was also reading some Sess/Kag fics and I've been inspired. So here's to another songfic.

All I Ask of You

She stood alone on purpose, tucked away from the gala that he was throwing for the company. He leaned against the large door frame that opened out onto the expansive circular balcony. The lighting from inside highlighted her against the dark of the night; drawing his attention away from the moonless sky and bright stars she had become engrossed in. He had wanted it to be a private affair so he had chosen his private mansion up in the mountains. There were no city lights, loud traffic, or pollution that he was so used to in the city. The result was a magnificent view of the night sky.

He gave one last retreating glance to the stuffy party that he was hosting and intensely focused his golden eyes on the woman in front of him. She was in rare form tonight; dressed in a delicate, flowing lavender gown rather than the professional business attire he was accustomed to seeing his secretary in. She looked softer with her hair let down. 'Rare form indeed' he mused. He enjoyed the soft breeze that carried her sweet scent to him; his youkai purred in delight knowing she was nearby. His eye lashes fluttered to a close to soak up the serenity of the moment.

"It's been so long," her soft voice brought him out of his reverie. "But I still can't believe this is the life I lead today."

His gaze intensified as she turned around to her silent spectator. "Like what you see?" she asked cheekily a ghost of a smile passing through her lips, forgetting the serious statement that she just issued. He slowly walked towards her, a small smile on his face. 'Damn straight,' he thought, watching as her cheekiness disappeared to be replaced with an unusual solemn demeanor. His smile gone, he watched for any other emotion to give him the answer to her seclusion. There were none. She used to be so open with her thoughts and emotions before it happened. As he approached closer to her, she turned around again to gaze at the stars in silent contemplation. "They look the same don't you think," she stated more than asked as Sesshomaru leaned onto the balcony next to her. He inclined his head slightly, remembering a world far away. He sensed the sadness in her voice, no not her voice, her demeanor. Although her emotions were no longer displayed on her face for anyone to read, he still read her like a book.

No more talk of darkness. Forget these wide eyed fears. I'm here, nothing can harm you.

"Why are you outside, Kagome?" Sesshomaru asked cutting to the chase. She turned to him, regarding him slowly.

"The present and past are spanned so far apart but I cannot separate them. Cities have crumbled only to be brought up again with new advancements. People, fashion, and customs change. But the stars have stayed the same, twinkling down on us with their secrets and vast knowledge of passing times, present times, and times to come. They're amazing," she finished, beginning to turn to away only to be stopped by a hand on her arm with delicate long fingers.

"You have changed, along with everything else save for said stars," he stated. A rosy glow began to color her cheeks under his piercing, golden eyes.

"Have I?" she muttered as she lowered her eyes.

He let go of her arm and leaned out onto the balcony. "Where has your smile gone Kagome?" he answered her question with another, sadly knowing he would not get a straight answer out of her.

"What smile Sessho?" she asked with a grin. She had recently acquired his new nickname in the office. He looked up into her earnest face, to see her flash a smile that he knew would not reach her eyes. She's trying to avoid her problem, our problem he corrected himself. His youkai growled for action, to comfort the lonely woman in front of him; he pushed it down, with promises of comforting the girl soon.

He stood straight and brought his hand to her face. "The one that should be here," he said, his thumb indicating her lips as it lightly traced them turned up in the false smile. "The smile that lights up your face, bringing a twinkle to your eye," he finished softly. He let his hand drop to his side. Her shoulders dropped in defeat, resembling a wilted flower.

"I'm shrouded in eternal darkness. Everything has changed, but I'm still in the past. Have I changed? I can't forget about him," she said slowly. He felt his eyebrow quirk up. 'It better not be that stupid, half-wit...

"I can't believe he left me to die. After everything," her voice cracked as she paused to regain her composure.

...brother of mine,' he thought. His youkai wanted nothing more than to go to hell or wherever that devilish bitch had taken his brother and rip him a new one. The salty scent brought him out of his ideas of vengeance. His eyes softened with concern as he brought her into his arms, and brushed his fingers through her silky hair.

That day had occurred just a few years ago for her, and he felt pride of how well the young miko in his arms had adapted to her new life. It gave him the okay to do what he was about to do tonight.

He had been there that day, but it was not just a mere couple of years for him. He had watched the years go by ever so slowly since he nursed the young miko to health. Sesshomaru had left her with her friends once her fever broke never expecting to see her again. His youkai disagreed greatly with his decision, but he would have no rebellion. Trouble could only come from mating a human, or so he thought. The long years taught him well. He had lived many centuries, and no one could compare to her. In those few days he had spent bringing her back from the verge of death, the connection had been forged. Coming to this realization a decade ago, he knew it was only a couple of years, moments to him, to wait for her inevitable return.

Her shocked face still brought a good humored chuckle when he thought of the day he went to offer her a job as his personal secretary. Her mouth dropped open in astonishment only able to get out a few words. He left her like that with a card and a paper with directions to his building, not wanting to explain his deep desire for her yet. He was a man of many means, intelligent beyond a doubt. Since she had entered this world, he had watched her from a safe distance. He discovered the well and how Kagome Higurashi came to be in the feudal era. After being so patient for her final return from the feudal era, he and his inner youkai would not be denied.

My words will warm and calm you. Let me be your freedom. Let daylight dry your tears. I'm here with you, beside you, to guard you and to guide you.

He tucked back a strand of hair and whispered words of comfort to her, hoping to stop the tears. He wondered why this had not happened sooner and more angrily thought, why he had not noticed her distress sooner. It would not happen again he promised himself and held onto her tighter in effect.

"Sesshomaru?" her voice muffled. He loosened up his grip on her.

"Thank you," she said as she breathed in much needed air. "For everything," she said looking up into his eyes encased in his arms.

"Kagome," he began cautiously.

She struggled to free her hand and managed to do so, bringing a finger on his lips. "I haven't shared this pain with anyone. And it finally overwhelmed me," she paused laying her head against his chest as they stood in a comfortable embrace. His youkai purred as he sensed her calming down. "Thank you for holding me," she said simply.

'Was that all she needed,' he asked himself silently.

"Thank you for comforting me, for giving me a place to make a new life, for healing me, for everything." She looked up at him, "I have been thinking a lot recently and I found myself rehashing that day, because I want to move on. I feel myself moving on, but," she paused to collect her thoughts, grasping for them as they were slipping away. "But, I was afraid to let go of him."

'Was afraid?' he thought.

"Even after coming back to my time," she forged on. "I was falling back into darkness, and you came to me again tonight and saved me. I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense," she looked up at him meekly, and then closed her eyes, tiptoed and brought her soft lips to his.

Say you'll love me every waking moment. Turn my head with talk of summertime. Say you'll need me with you now and always. Promise me that all you say is true. That's all I ask of you.

A year may be a moment to Sesshomaru, but the few seconds her lips were on his stretched out to an eternity. He had waited too long to do this. Although Sesshomaru did not regret giving Kagome the time to adjust to everything, the three years were filled with frustration, torment, and need.

He gently pulled her closer to him, probing her lips for entrance, his need for her more urgent than ever before. His youkai would not be denied again. She opened her sensual mouth to him deepening the kiss. He explored her mouth, his youkai urging him onto the edge of ecstasy. He took his time, savoring the intimate moment; he had waited centuries for this. All thought fled him as he was consumed in how she tasted and the way her tongue moved against his. She pressed herself into him, molding perfectly to his lean lines. Bringing her hand up to his cheek, she began to explore his mouth, careful of his fangs. He urged her for more threading his hands through hair to the back of her head. He never wanted it to end, but that pesky need for breath soon became apparent and their mouths parted. Breathless he closed his eyes, purring in utter contentment. With this small taste, his lust inflamed, leading his imagination to a night he knew would be close at hand; a night of passionate moans, soft caresses, and the marking of his chosen mate.

Remembering what he had been trying to say, he opened his eyes and said softly, "Kagome." When he had her attention he finished his sentence. "You are mine," he said softly as he nuzzled her exposed neck. He felt her tense in his arms briefly. He continued his ministrations on her neck, licking the juncture of her neck and shoulder.

"What?" she asked innocently.

'I'm surprised she's not yelling at me right now for basically planning out the rest of her life with me,' he thought.

He shook his head instead picking her up in one swift movement and began spinning her around. She laughed with mirth, holding on tight. When he set her back down, Kagome became quiet again.

Then say you'll share with me one love one lifetime. Let me lead you from your solitude.

"You are mine too," she whispered, staring into his eyes that widened briefly.

He nodded.

"So this is kind of a big deal huh?" she asked, mischievousness dancing in her eyes.

She made a show of thinking really hard. "Because there was that one time you nearly tried to kill me. That wasn't very nice. I don't know if I could be mated to someone who nearly tried to kill me," she teased him.

He growled in protest. "That was a very long time ago."

"I still think I should get an apology," she said solemnly, gaiety in her eyes.

Sesshomaru looked at her in disbelief. Then she began to pout and he sweat dropped. How could he deny her a simple apology in this playful banter?

He dramatically dropped down to one knee and took his hand in his. He kissed it gracefully and said in an equally dramatic voice, "Kagome, I have tried to kill you under a false pretense. Who knew you were such a great kisser? Could you ever forgive this Sesshomaru?"

"I suppose," she said playfully. He stood up then with a twinkle in his eye.

"I love you," she said all playfulness gone. He smiled a smile only for her eyes only, his eyes showing the depth of his devotion and adoration for his future mate and kissed her soundly on the lips.

"Shall we go back to the party?" he asked. She nodded her consent and linked her arm with her future mate.

Love me that's all I ask of you.

'I will love you forever and always' he thought glancing at his partner before escorting them back to the party.
