The New World by Lady Neko-Eyes

Chapter 1: End of the Battle

A fierce zephyr whipped through the forest and into the clearing Sesshomaru had stopped for the night in. Naturally, rest stops were not his favorite parts of the day, but the child Rin had not complained for one the entire journey and so he rewarded her with the night off.

Not that that was the only reason though.

He could not pinpoint it, but something in the air was slowly making him uneasy. Without speaking, he turned and ordered a grazing AhUn to curl around Rin, who was shivering rather violently in the cold, the dragons obeyed their master without confrontation and obeyed, the small girl smiled, "Arigato, Sesshomaru-sama," she whispered gratefully to her father-figure, then turned onto her side and fell asleep. The youkai ordered Jakken, who was already ready to follow him, to stay with her and headed into the woods, ignoring Jakken's whining as he departed. Something was not right about this particular night. With Jakken there, he would not be able to focus, which was something he was believing more and more would be necissary, a strangeness hung heavily in the air and prickled at his perceptive senses, teasing him, but remaining anonymous. Burdened by the surrounding trees, he flew up into the air, above the dense forest and looked around, his long silver hair flew about his shoulders, his yellow eyes surveying as far as they could see, 'What is it, and where?' he wondered.

The answer would come in an abrupt and potent surge of power. So potent that it would cause the usually graceful youkai to stumble backwards, 'What was that?' he asked himself; the youkai turned to see the girl that traveled with his brother slide back in a crouching position, she was transparent and seemed be unaware of Sesshomaru's presence, the girl shot an arrow that disappeared into the night. Inuyasha followed shortly afterwards, rushing at him with the Tetsusaiga, Sesshomaru instinctively powered up the poison whip and slashed at his hanyou brother, but he too was like an image and ran through Sesshomaru's attack, Sesshomaru as well. The youkai was bewildered for a moment before it hit him;

They were in a barrier of some sort!

Soon a horrid looking spider with slimy tentacles for legs appeared, it chased Inuyasha up something that Sesshomaru could only guess was a cliffside, the hanyou kicked off of it and landed on the spider's back, he shouted something Sesshomaru could not hear, then stabbed the spider, a flash of light ran through it and split the spider's thorax in half.

Sesshomaru shielded his eyes from the light of the blast, the one he finally remembered as Kagome was holding the small kitsune in her hands, Sesshomaru didn't need to be able to smell to know that it was dead, but he could tell Kagome had not acknowleged it yet for Kagome's eyes were galazed over, indicating shock; she either did not realize the child was gone, or did not want to. He then turned to his left to see the monk sobbing pitifully over the remnants of a woman's body; he too had the same glazed look as Kagome, but in the back was something Sesshomaru could tell was wrong-

The monk was mad.

Sure enough, he said something that made the living woman scream, Inuyasha landed and ran towards him in an attempt to stop him, but the monk opened his palm and held it to his chest, a great blast of wind sprung forth from it and soon the monk and dead woman were gone. Inuyasha stared at the crater in disbelief, then ran to and held a convulsing Kagome, Inuyasha too was crying, Sesshomaru watched as they held each other, then watched in horror as the spider Inuyasha had slain return to life and run at his turned back.

"INUYASHA MOVE!!!!" he yelled, a long thin fang pierced through Inuyasha's chest and hoisted him out of Kagome's arms and up into the air, Inuyasha writhed in pain until for some time while Kagome beat uselessly at the spiders legs. Finally, he succumed to what Sesshomaru guessed was venom. The youkai, still in the air, fell to his knees, 'No, Inuyasha was mine to kill,' he said mentally, but in his heart he could not lie,

'Why...brother...,'

Some movement still occurred before him, but the taiyoukai was too in shock to see what was happening, 'How? How Inuyasha, did you fall at the hands of a spider?' Sesshomaru balled his hands into fists, returning to his indifferent state, the mutt deserved much better than that...

Without warning, a blinding white light flooded out of the barrier and into the night, the forest became as day and Sesshomaru was sent flying back a good mile and a half. He hit a massive tree and lost consciousness. After that mysterious day, the youkai would awaken and return to that spot many times over, searching for an answer to what had happened, but no indication would be given as to what had happened. He would never know...

Or so he thought...

The cacophony of people's voices and the putrid smell of unwashed bodies in a close environment made the youkai sick to his stomach, all ningens were disgusting to him but the ones of Enlgish nationality had to be his most hated. Loud and obnoxious, he spent many a time flicking drunken men off of him as he walked through the streets of the port town he stationed himself in temporarily; their yellow teeth and breaths of decaying food were burned into his memory, never to be forgotten, they seldom bathed and sanitary procedures had, to his eyes, failed to evolve since the time of the plague. Sesshomaru pulled the tri-cornered hat over his pointed ears and tucked up hair, the English ningens were infested with lice; he had to learn that the hard way. But unlike the above mentioned ningens he was able to clean himself with a quick brush through with his poison claws, the only weapon he had now.

A fat man in a coat much too small for him stepped onto a rickety podium, a scroll of some sort was grasped in his pudgy hand, he unrolled the scroll and read in a voice mutilated by an uneducated English accent, "'Ear ye, 'ear ye! Tis is thuh last boat depa'in' for the new world behfo' the' emerican por'is closed down fo' the'h winter. That is oll!" Sesshomaru smirked, "Looks like I got here just in time,' he thought to himself; he had been fighting and hiding endlesssely for the past 150 years, news of the new world spread fast and intruiged Sesshomaru, he could finally make a new life. People crowded around him and soon the air became putrid and congested, interrrupting his thoughts. In a very discreet manner, the youkai started knocking people out with the poison and stepping over them to get to the front faster, he handed the shifty eyed captain some money and grasped his bag, to the new world!

Annie finished up the housework and opened the back door to call the children from the meadow, "Elizabeth! Charles! Phillip! Lunch is ready!" she called, three blonde heads poked up from the tall green grass and grinned, their giggles grew louder as they made their way to their sweet nanny, the oldest boy Charles leaped out from his hiding place first, "I am a lion RAAARRR!" he growled, Annie put on a fake frightened expression, "Oh no, please dear lion, do not eat me!" she said, shaking for the sake of the game. The little boy laughed, "Oh silly Annie, I am not really a lion, I am only pretending!" he explained, the nanny smiled, then replaced it with a stern frown, "Uh-huh, only Charles, the boy who does not wear his shoes outside. Your father will not be pleased should he find you sick in bed when he returns," she said, Charles smile faded as fast as it appeared, he bent his head and awaited punishment, the newest nanny had yet to prove herself a punisher, but Charles had grown accustomed to them nonetheless. Annie walked towards him and raised her hand, then swooped down and picked him up, showering him with punishing tickles. The little boy giggled and writhed until she set him down, Elizabeth, the oldest child of the three lead a newly and rather rickety walking Phillip back to Annie, "Phillip has learned a new word today nanny!" she said with a grin. Annie kneeled down and waited for the toddler to speak, "Go on Phillip," his sister encouraged him, the baby pulled his thumb out of his mouth, "Fwower," he said, Annie smiled and picked the child up, "Good job!" she said, "Now, playetimes over, shall we have our lunch?" she asked, the children cheered and followed her back inside the house.

The voyage to the new world had been absolute torture for Sesshomaru, he spent as much time as he could outside in the open air, but consistent rains had constantly forced him back in the cabins with the putrid and now sea-sick ningens, the food they had was rotten, not that he ate it anyway, and they were still yet to rise above accommodating ningens properly. He watched as the body of a woman was flung over the side into the ocean, almost immediately was it taken away by sharks,

He would die on this God forsaken raft.

His thrashed hopes were restored with one word: "Land!" some one yelled from the crows nest, Sesshomaru jogged up the small flight of steps and towards the front of the ship before anyone else, indeed a small, scarcely visible strip of black was slowly materializing into the English claimed colony Sesshomaru had heard so much about, the land was extremely different from Japan and England though, it held a coldness to it. Dead and vacant, Sesshomaru sensed heavy religious action, it made him a tad bit uneasy, but this world was still new, he would find a place where he would not be bothered,

That's all he wanted now...

Thankfully, the boat docked without incident. And, fogetting what dignity he had left, Sesshomaru raced down the plank, freedom! As he did though, he couldn't help but noticed a midget with dull brown hair and yellowish green eyes staring at him, mouth agape, Sesshomaru tried to sniff him out, but he was too overwhelmed by the multiple new smells that greeted him as he arrived, not that people like him were uncommon in England. Instead, he ignored the small man and headed into the village. It was extremely quiet, no one was around and, for a minute or so, Sesshomaru pondered whether demons attacked it, an old consideration that centuries in Japan had burned into him. Fortunately, he did not have to waste his time guessing what had happened as a small church bell sounded in the distance, he winced through the early morning fog to see people flood out of a small wooden church and down twisted dirt roads, made muddy by freshly falling snow back to their farms, some on buggies, other's merely walked into the village. A light tug on his coat made him jump; Sesshomaru looked down to see the midget from the dock standing right next to him, he kicked him, "Putrid human, do not touch me!" he said without thinking, the midget scrambled up and kneeled, "That proves it, it IS you Sesshomaru-sama!" he said in a very familiar voice.

Sesshomaru allowed himself to be surprised as a memory surface and grew a face, "Jakken?" he asked.
