The Swan Priestess

Chapter One

Once upon a time there was a great king; his name was Mushin. He ruled the Northern Lands and lived in a grand castle, yet he was sad. He had no children and was growing old. Then one joyous day a daughter was born, a priestess, she was proclaimed his heir and named Kagome.

Rulers from all around soon came to pay their respects and to give presents to the young princess. Mizuki the widowed Lady of the Western Lands was among them, along with her two young sons Sesshoumaru and Inuyasha.

Mizuki and Mushin silently watched as Sesshoumaru ran up to Kagome's crib only to turn back around and run up to her with his hands held out. Chuckling quietly to herself she took out a gold heart locket with a swan craved into it and gave it to him.

Sesshoumaru then turned around and ran back to Kagome's crib to give her the present.

As Mizuki and Mushin looked on they both suddenly got an idea, the same idea. Every summer Kagome and Mushin would come to the Western Castle so Kagome and Sesshoumaru could meet and hopefully fall in love and then marry. Then the Western and Northern Lands could join together and form an unbreakable alliance.

As soon as Kagome was old enough, they decided. That was when their plan would go into effect. Mizuki and Mushin shook hands on it and soon the happy news was spreading throughout their lands.

But not everyone was happy about it.

Naraku, Mushin's sorcerer, sneered at the idea. He had wanted the Northern Lands for himself and he wasn't going to let Mushin's plans get in his way.

Naraku decided to use the forbidden black magic to take Mushin's kingdom from him by force. But on the eve of his attack Mushin's troops stormed Naraku's chambers. Smashing his potions, tipping tables and burning his spell books.

Naraku's powers were destroyed and he was taken in to custody.

Later, despite the calls for his death, Naraku was only banished. Mushin released him at the edge of his lands. But as Naraku was walking away he suddenly turned around and glared straight at Mushin.

"I'm not finished with you yet Mushin." He snarled. "Someday I'll get my powers back. And when I do everything you own, everything you love will be mine!"

And with that Naraku turned away and continued walking down the road.

Many feared Mushin too kind. But in time the threat was forgotten, and all hopes turned to that not so distant summer; when Sesshoumaru and Kagome would meet.

So how was it? Good, bad? Terrible, wonderful?
