Summary: (A/U) Kagome is known as the Demon’s Heiress, burdened with the Shikon no Tama and riches she inherited from the man she despised most. Seeking haven within Lord Inuyasha’s forest, Kagome releases Lord Sesshoumaru from his half-brother. Now captured, Kagome seeks to understand the Lord of the Western Lands while Sesshoumaru must ignore the hunger within his heart. But nothing could prepare the two for the passions they spark within each other…

Author’s Note:

“The Demon’s Heiress” first few chapters were posted up about a few months prior. However, as I reviewed my story draft, I realized a few errors that would entirely mess up the story line. Therefore, I was stuck with Writer’s Block, unsure of what to write. I’ve returned now with a similar story line, however, much different in content. Therefore, I must delete the chapters I’ve posted already and start all over. Please, bear with me as I try to satisfy you with my humble attempts at writing.

Prologue

Grief-stricken families stood on the dirt pavement, searching for the faces of survivors pulled out from beneath the rubble for loved ones. Death hung still in the polluted air. Muffled sobs broke the silence. Screams of agony pierced the still air like a sharp dagger. It seemed like Life as it was known has come to a sudden halt.

“The taiyoukai Naraku, Demon Lord of the Forest of Shadows. Anyone here for Naraku?” asked the village miko.

Murmurs rose. Activity sparked, and suddenly everyone had forgotten laundry to do back home. Soon, the only ones left were a few stringy groups of people crying tearfully and a young girl holding a kitsune pup.

Kagome sighed. This is what the name Naraku brings. Fear. Terror.

Death.

“I repeat, is there anyone for the Lord of the Shadows?”

Wind. Movement of feet.

“Hai, I am here for the Lord” Kagome replied, barely above a whisper.

“What? Why must I leave?” Kagome asked.

“You must learn your place within society. You have stayed within my humble village too long. You must learn to live with people.”

Kagome searched into the Elder’s eyes.

“That’s not the only reason is it? It’s is because I am the Demon’s Heiress is it not? Why not just say so? Instead of pretending to send me off for my own good? I would have gladly left to ensure the village’s safety.”

There were no objections.

“Fine. I shall leave. But when come the day where you are in need of my help, do not blame me if I do not offer any assistance, for there will come the day where this village will see many a terrible days to come.”

And with that said and done, Kagome left the Elder’s hut.

‘Why? Why must it be me?’

Kagome wiped away her tears angrily. She will not accept this. She had done nothing that should have angered Kami-sama. The God should not have found any faults within her to punish.

‘Everything was going along fine. Where did it go wrong?’

::Flashback::

A tall man with long, wirey black hair kneeled before her. Hushed silence ensued. Suspense hung dead still amongst Time.

Lord Naraku lifted his head and looked into her eyes. “Will you marry me?”

::Change Flashback::

“I repeat, is there anyone for the Lord of the Shadows?”

Wind. Movement of feet.

“Hai, I am here for the Lord” Kagome replied, barely above a whisper.

The miko shifted and went to announce another survivor. No one provided Kagome with a second glance.

“…Kag…o…me…”

Kagome knelt before the burnt figure in front of her.

“Yes my Lord?”

“My time is near…. All my posse….ssions ::gasp:: shall go ::wheezing and harsh coughing:: to you…Live..” Naraku’s head rolled to the side. Dead.

‘Why must Naraku have proposed to me? He knew I had no choice anyways since he is the feared Demon Lord of the Shadows. Why did he have to die then? Now I have no where to go…..

AN 2: I had to put my author’s note along with the prologue because I just realized you are not to have separate chapters for AN’s and though tons of ppl do that and never get in trouble w/ ff.net, I don’t want to risk it.
