The Phantom of the Opera by Wolfen Blood

Her New Protector

Chapter 1 her new protector

Tears rolled down her cheek, her face buried in the blankets of the bed she knelt beside. Her little hands curled into fist bringing the cloth in her grasp. Lifting her head from the confines of the blanket she stared at her father's deathly pale face.

Giving her a weak smile, he lifted his hand to her face and brushed the tears from her face with his thumb before returning his arm to rest beside him. Sighing a long sigh his chest going up then back down.

"Shhh Kagome, it's not the end, just a new beginning. I'm not worth crying over." his eyes closed in pain before slowly opening them again. "Once I am no longer here to protect you an Angel of Music will be here to protect you just like I would. Now please stop crying, it's all going to end up fine." he gave her one big smile like it would brighten up her world. A horrible cough suddenly left his throat causing Kagome to gasp and cover her mouth in horror. Once the cough stopped he look over to her, a little bit of saliva was trailing down the corner of his mouth.

Kagome shook her head vigorously, " No Papa, you can't leave me."

"It's going to be alright. I want you to promise me not to cry when I'm not here anymore. Your only seven, I don't want you to suffer."

She slowly nodded her head and as her final nod stopped he gave her one last smile before his eyes slowly closed forever.

Despite her promise, new tears began to run down her face as her small body trembled. Her hands grasped the sheets tighter in her fists as if holding on was her only hope of keeping her father here in this world not the next.

"Come Kagome, your father is not coming back. Come with me." the dance instructor of the opera house said holding out her wrinkled hand.

Slowly placing her hand in the old lady's, Kagome stood up from the bed, her eyes still lock on her father's motionless form. A slight pull on her hand made her look around and she started her way out of the room. Before Kagome stepped out of the room a voice echoed in her mind: Kagome.
