Fall Down by QAB

Indiscretion

"Don't say my name Inuyasha. Not when your eyes do not see me."

The inu hanyou glared at Kikyou, indignation and ill-hidden shame very much apparent. The other met his gaze with a slight, amused smile that did not reach her glittering eyes, now a shade of dark cobalt, owing to the absence of the sun. "I was right, then? You have gone back on your word." Her voice, sweet as honey, grew more poisonous as the accusations fell. "You don't love me, anymore, do you? Even when you promised I'd always have a place in your heart's memory. Or was that sore spot healed away by that slip of a girl you--"

She stopped by the sudden, fiery light that leaked slowly out of her ex-boyfriend's feral eyes. "I see." In a flash, she was in his arms, craning her neck up at him becomingly. "I feel very passionately about you. I want the life..." Kikyou smiled sorrowfully and placed her hand over his heart. "..that is owed to me." Inuyasha was pretty much frozen, afraid the time had come for him to leap into hell; terrified of leaving Kagome.

Instead, Kikyou wrapped her arms around his middle, giving him a look that suggested he follow suit. It was an awkward embrace, but both of them relaxed into each other, allowing Inuyasha to receive the full brunt of her scent. "I can't leave yet. I have to avenge your death."

He gently squeezed her cold body and if possible, got even cozier. The miko let go of her hate long enough to soak up some of his body heat. It had been awhile since she'd felt so warm. And wanted. Naraku's lust was like cold slime.

They stayed together like that for a long moment, listening to the cicadas and ignoring the implications of a bleak eternity.

"I should probably go.. When will I see you again?"

Kikyou's smile grew just a little more. "That is not exactly for me to decide. And if you really do mean what you say, my face should haunt you every waking and dreaming moment you have."

"You already do." Inuyasha pried himself carefully from the clay woman and very slowly, they parted hands. When they were finally not touching, a small THUNK sound caused Inuyasha's demon ears to perk up. The hanyou looked at the source of the sound and found it to be an arrow.

Kikyou allowed her gaze to meander the opposite direction and smirked at the sight of her younger reincarnation, the other's focus riveted on Inuyasha's guilty countenance.

Heart beating and face flushed, Kagome lowered her bow and turned away from the site. She sat Inuyasha multiple times to insure his paralysis and with fogging vision, returned to her time.
